new to Droid and I don't see instructions for removing an icon from the home screen. don't want to uninstall, just replace. Thanks!

ktitus,
Easy one - just press/hold the icon until you feel the haptic response (vibrate), then drag it down to the Application Tab at the bottom of the Home screen. You'll see the tab turn red. Let the icon go. Done.

Hey Viper, Im a noob to forums and I saw that there was a problem with the Droid deleting SMS messages. Ive had this problem several times on 2 different Droids. Ive used the Messaging app included with the phone and 3rd party apps and it will still occassionally delete all of my threads. Any suggestions? this is probably the most annoying thing ever and is making me want to wait for the HTC Passion

No suggestions, sorry. It happens to me too and I cannot explain why. I have seen a problem where the Eris will freeze if you have alot of messages. Seems like it could be an Android problem when you get alot of messages in the Messaging app.

Go to your contacts, then call log, then menu.... clear call log... poof!.. they are gone!
Clearing the call log does not clear the frequently called list.

I clear the call logs all the time and it does nothing.
Viperboy please tell me u have the answer; thanks

There is no way to do it, unless you use the Call Log Assistant software that someone suggested in this thread.

When I try to take a flash picture on the phone, I get a big white arc on one corner of the picture. Pictures without the flash have no problems.

Any ideas why this is happening or how to fix it?

Haven't seen that before, hard to tell what's going on without seeing it. Take it into the store and show them. Seems like the flash is actually not mounted correctly in the phone, as in hardware problem.

Viper,

Any thoughts on my problem with the gallery semi-freezing all the time that I posted above? I followed up your answer with my response above. I only have 20-25 pics on the phone, all except 1 taken from the camera.

My only thought at this point would be to master reset. I believe you did everything else, correct?

I got my phone around November 21 and had to trade another for another one a month later in December.. Can I trade it back for cash and use that money for the HTC passion that's coming out? I heard something about the holiday trade in being until January 13th? Could i trade my Droid back in ASAP for what I bought it for and get the HTC passion when it comes out? Thanks for the consideration

You're out of your 30 days, but if that is something they're doing, go into your store and see what they can do for you.

rooted my droid..something happened. wont go past the motorola M. will my brick be replaced instore?

As I stated before and in my first post, rooting "may" void your warranty. That is literally what Verizon has to say about it. This whole Android thing is new to them, so they may change their wording and position on that, but that is what they say.

Did you try Power + X while booting and restoring the phone from Recovery?

I have a Plantronics Voyager Bluetooth paired with my Moto Droid. Is there a way I can use the Bluetooth as a headphone? Like listing to my music or Pandora while driving.

Nope, not unless the headset supports A2DP even though it's mono. I know that the Jabra Stone will play music with the Droid, read it somewhere.

Is there a way to select all emails in the trash bin and delete all at once or do you have to check each box then delete? If the latter is the case will a select all option be coming soon, this is such a pain.

Have to select each...unknown if this will change.

Correct, sorry.

Hello viperboy, thanks for your help allready. But I was wandering, do I need and antivirus protection or spyware removal software for my new droid??

None is need for the Droid.

Correct, I don't have AV SW. Seems pointless, IMO.

Holy crap, I think the thread is 3 pages longer since starting to read it
I missed a few pages but I don't think this is in here. The below quote seems to be about playing a video upon receiving one, but what about sending?

I'm having the same problem with not being able to view animations or videos sent by MMS. I haved saved the one it would let me save. Didn't help. Not a reason to get rid of the phone but it is disapointing that a phone supposedly this advanced & definately this expensive can't do something an old Razr can do. Hopefully this can and will be fixed with an update. Seems like the developers dropped the ball on this one.

What happens when you save it and try to view it?
I've been able to play ones sent from cheaper "lower level" verizon phones. They can send them out but the Droid can't? Is there a way to "lift" the message size limitation to allow even the smallest duration videos through???

Viperboy, is there neway to put sounds with your pics when sending out texts?

No, but you can use Explorer and find that file, long press, and than send it via GMail to [email protected] for example. That is the work-around for it.
But does this work for non verizon customers? Even if so, still would rather have the ability to send video in the middle of a text conversation.

Thanks for any specific info on this.

MMS does seem to be giving people problems and that seems SW related.

As for the vtext.com example, there is info out there (Google it, I can't find it for some reason) that lists all the carriers addresses for that.

If I have a text messaging plan, will send picture/animated text messages require additional fees?

No, they just come out of the amount of messages your plan/add-on has.

How can I turn the cell radio off, and leave Bluetooth on?

I use the phone in some interesting and remote locations where there is no VZW cell coverage, but I want to be able to listen to saved audio over bluetooth without the cell radio going nuts looking for a tower, which sucks down the battery, FAST.

And Viperboy, great job answering all of these questions.

Unfortunately, you can't. They are on the same chip, so if you turn off the phone's radio, NO BLUETOOTH FOR YOU!! :D Sorry, would be cool if you could though.

Alright Viperboy, i got a question for ya.

I got an MMS message yesterday and spent a good 20 minutes trying to open it. I use Handcent and i clicked "Download" but it got stuck in "Downloading" and I gave up after 5 minutes. I went to the stock messaging app where the same thing happened.

Does Droid still have trouble with MMS messages?

Yes, seems like the SW just doesn't handle MMS too well. Hopefully, a future update will fix this.

Hey Viperboy thanks for the help. Regarding the Textings sounds workaround, Why is the driod such a problem with sending sounds? Every phone I have had in the past has permitted it, why is the Driod not? And is there any fix in the future for it?

No fix that I know of. I couldn't say if it is an Android thing or not because I'm not sure. I never tried from the Eris.

Viperboy:
Thanks for your assistance!

Question: Should the "Call Quality" fix be done to all Droids? My Droid call quality is OK, but I can't tell if it would be better after the "fix". Is the "fix" reversible if it doesn't work or offer any improvements?

If you are looking for better call quality, I would do it. If you don't like it or if you just want to change it, just follow the steps again and choose EVRC and it's back to how it came from the factory.

Hey nuby here got ? I have gmail on Droid when I got new email i got a sound Well the other day I stopped getting email on Droid did nothing to the thing no new apps nothing got on puter and have crap load email even restarted gmail on Droid but nothing any suggestions?

Long press on the icon and then drag it to the bottom, when it turns red, release and it is gone from the home screen. You can get it back from the full list of apps. Norm

I saw this mentioned earlier in the thread but I can confirm...it seems like Verizon's 3G network is being very picky when it comes to allowing IRC connections. Sometimes it works and a lot of times it does not. I have used various applications to the same degree and same result. It is really all about luck of the draw.

When the phone was originally released and in to late november, it was never a problem.

Just got my Verizon Eris Droid for Christmas. The documentation which came with the phone tells me nothing about the meaning of the icons (symbols) on the black notification bar. I know one is signal strength but I have several which I do not understand. Is there any documentation available which will tell me the meaning of the icons?

Thanks Blacknblack. The tree I was looking for was hidden in the forest of information. I downloaded the 238 page user manual and printed out pages 46-59 Notifications which had everything I needed. Thanks again

saving sms thread

I have searched for a way to save a sms threads. I have not found a way to do that. Does anybody know of a way.

I've had my motorola droid for a few days now and it has been randomly turning itself on and off. I have no idea why this is happening but if you have any thoughts please let me know! thanks!

Do you have it plugged into a charger when it does that? If you do, is it a charger that did not come with the phone? This problem is one symptom of using a charger of insufficient capacity.

Or - did you mean that it is rebooting randomly? Others have seen this, some have found apps that caused it while others ended up having their phones replaced under warranty. Depending on how inconvenient this is you may want to do a factory reset. This will clear your data so anything not synced to google should be backed up first. Or you could deinstall all of the apps you have added and see if it stops rebooting.

Did you ever get a fix for this, I am have similar problems the MMS that are sent to me. I'm wondering if the 2.0.1 update had anything to doing with it. I got one yesterday that played the video, but had no sound. Normally it receives the video as a still.

I have no information for you, unfortunately. When I looked for some info on IRCs in our systems, I came up with nothing. I will see if there is anything more that I can find.
