Verizon Tech here - ask away!

The real question is why did Viper Boy start this threat if he has not chimed in any of the questions in the last 10+ pages of posts. Might as well start a new threat if you have a question because the original poster is AFK, sort of like the regular VZW techs when you call in with an issue.:icon_ banana:

Yes... it would be nice to have a formal dismissal if this is not going to continue so people aren't asking questions to the wind... on the other hand.. we are nearing 1000 posts and the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Now that the Droid has been out a while there is a mass of knowledge resources available that wasn't there a while back. Not just on this forum but all over the net.

Its easy for folks to not do their home work... ignore answers from other posters who have already been there or have already read about it and instead quit doing searches of their own because they can just get it spoon fed to them here.

Why have the whole rest of the forum if people are just going to come to this one thread for all their questions and problems?

Viper was supposed to be used as a last resort, for questions that are not common and unusual that only a high level tech may be privy to.

There have been multiple warnings about wearing him out.
When he comes back even after one day... "let alone two or three" there are tons of questions that are repeats and newbie questions.

This is the exact reason why Verizon shields the high level techs when you call in and have to go through several lesser techs before your problem is presented.... we don't have that screening here.

If we don't screen ourselves, it unhuman to think someone can work all day, have some kind of social life or family... eat dinner, sleep, bathe... maybe 30 min of R&R and still answers all these questions.

All else fails, we have been blessed to get what we have gotten and he started a thread that almost runs itself now.

Yes it would be nice for him to weed through all the ones that didn't get answered but then that puts the burden on him to read and decipher all the post to decide which ones really need answering.

We all knew he was playing superman when he bit off this thread.
He made promises that could not be sustained forever.

He's been far more patient and professional to answer all questions that any of us would have likely been.

We do need to give him grace and not ask questions that we have not already thoroughly researched, and exhausted... instead people are coming here first for a quick lazy answer.

Many folks have not read this exhaustive thread to learn on their own and because of that.. they too missed the warnings as to not wear him out.
Sadly.... this one thread may now be the most informative thread for so many issues than any other.

Many don't want to learn... just to get past the immediate problem at hand and then when the next one pops up.. here they are again.

If I remember right, he is a member of several other threads trying to do the same thing for them....... crazy!!!!

Hello:)
Durring a phone call my droid allows my ear to push mute or speaker or even hang up on the person im talking to! Ahhhh! anyway to lock my screen?

I downloaded volume control because my silent mode kept going on by itself. Now after downloading Volume control mu phone will not ring. How can I delete volume control

Is it an app you installed or a widget? Did you go in and un install yet? If not here is how you can un install the app. Settings/Applications/Delete.

Let me know if you got it.:motdroidhoriz:

Maybe you are keeping your chin too close to the actual phone....Keep it an inch or two away from your chin and see what happens....THIS has never happened to me. Hangups are not fun, no question.

Great post Windstrings....Looks like our Tread Starter Viperboy has left the post....Out of sight, out of mind I guess or he got ticked at the harsh postings here in the beginning....He may also have gotten busy down at the VZW store selling more Droids.....Someone go down there and find him. Bring him out of there alive.

i'm going on vacation in a couple weeks and i want to know if i'm going to get roaming charges for any 3g or text used?

Make a test phone call.. you can use *611 if you like.
Once the call connects put the phone up to your ear and watch the screen with your peripheral vision.. you will notice the screen goes black as the light sensor senses its up to your head.....

Anytime that screen goes black, all buttons on the screen are disarmed or "frozen" like you say.
While the screen is black, you can hit the spot where the "hangup" button is all you want and nothing will happen... only when you pull it away from your head and the screen lites back up will the "hangup" button work.

You can test it with your hand too... put your hand up to the screen during a call and when its about 1.25 inches away it will kill the screen and turn it black.

If this is not working for you I would try to go into your settings and check or "uncheck" the auto bright button and uncheck it again or rather set it back to where it was.
This has fixed some lighting issues for some folks after the update.

You can always try pulling your battery and putting it back in.

You can also make sure your light sensor "located in the extreme upper left corner" is clean as oils or grime may change its sensitivity.

I didn't think any of the nationwide plans had roaming charges as long as you were in the Continental United States.

I don't know how may types of pda plans there are and you didn't specify... it sounded like you assume your plan is the same as everybody's.

Your fastest answer will be to call *611 and dial zero to talk to a person.

I have a quick question... i have been tethering with my Droid using pdanet and i dont use the internet for watching youtube videos and such but when i checked my usage on vzw today it said 0 data and also 0 minutes but 63 text? has verizon caught on to me tethering or something? should I expect an outrageous bill? all the data i have used tethering was 488mb.

I've been using pdanet and havnt gotten charged for it yet. Worst case is you'd be charged $30 for tethering, if u don't go over 5GB cap

wow

Okay, judging from a previous post, AND the fact that no one responded to my queston about my phone, would it possibly be safe to say that there is either;

A: no one in this particular thread that knows anything on the Droid Eris, (which I might add, is still an Android phone)... or;

B: that even tho this forum is for " Verizon Droid AND the Motorola Droid" and that my phone does happen to be a Verizon Droid..... that I have come to the wrong place to get my questions answered, or at the very least, attempt to hazard a guess at best?

Considering I have looked everywhere for the answer and no really seems to know, I came here for help. It is a very frustrating situation, and I had high hopes. I guess I should have looked for a strictly Droid forum. I do not think I will be telling anyone about this site, considering evryone that I know except one have the Droid Eris.
Will stay here to get my husbands questions answered since he has the all-powerful Moto Droid, and doesnt want to join himself, but will not be asking any more questions for my self.
I am sorry I wasted both my time and any who happened to read that post.
Thank you for allowing me to join,
very dissapointed.:frown:

I hard reset the phone and I hope that that will solve the problem. At least my phone is ringing again. What is the difference between an app and a widget
