I just bought my wife a Droid Eris, set up an google account for her, set up google calendar and made a calendar sync (PC requested code, phone got it and entered it on PC), and then added a calandar item on the PC and it appeared on the phone. All good so far. She even edited the description on her phone, and it appeared on the PC. But when she made a calendar entry on the phone, I could not see it on the PC. Any suggestions? Is there some software that we must execute on the phone side? Also, for the phone, is there a way for a notation to be placed on the calendar when there is a description included?

Seriously what is good life on the battery? If i have more than an hour of talk time on this thing I get about 10hrs before the phone shuts off from a drained battery. That is w/o bluetooth, gps, and wifi, and very little use of any apps. Cant imagine if I want to listen to music at work w/ this device and/or want to browse the web for a bit. Should I take my phone if for a new battery?

First, how long have you had the phone. You're battery life the first few days will be horrible. It will get a LOT better over the next week or so (considering you treat it properly). Be sure to fully discharge it the first few days and leave it charging until its FULLY charged (which may take a while at first).

If you've had it longer than that already what else are you doing with the phone (i.e. playing games, watching videos ect.). Remember the screen on this phone is MUCH better than other phones (i.e. size, resolution, brightness) and as a result it takes a LOT of power (compared to normal phones). I can easily get a full day (18+ hours) on it with a few hours of phone calls and a moderate amount of internet use (but the first few days I couldn't even go half a day). Also how is the signal throughout the day. Remember that signal strength plays a GREAT deal in battery life. The lower you signal the hard the phone has to work to keep connected to the tower(s).

Had the phone for lil over a week now. Honestly I have not really been trying to do to much since im trying to find pinpoint the battery issue. Have probably got about 10-15 min worth of total web browsing since ive owned this phone. Most of the time Im just trying to organize my apps on the homescreen or play a little with apps or look at app in the marketplace. Every now and then I read some emails. Problem is when i talk on the phone the battery suffers dramatically. For some reason voice calls have the most affect on my battery, usually have a little over an hour of talk time for the entire day. I have great signal in my area rarely if ever goes under 2 bars.

Hmmmm, that is odd. I did much heavier use the first week I had it and I still could get at least 8-10 hours. Is the screen going off when you put the phone to your ear? and is the display set to "auto" for brightness? Also what are you battery %s? (goto Setting>About Phone>Battery Use) You'll see a % display of what's "using" the battery. What do these look like (display and call are normally the two biggest, with 'cell standby' usually in the top depending on what you've been doing. Everything else should be single digits (least in my experience).

browser stuck horizontally

Having another problem already...my browser is stuck in the horizontal position and won't revert to the vertical position. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Lithium batteries "do not" need to be discharged first, frequently or ever.... thats NiCad or NiMH and NiMh really doesn't need it either.

But fully charging a LiIon thats been on the shelf a long time is a good idea... although not necessary "critically" at first, but should be done if you want full runtime.

Fully charging allows all the weaker cells to also achieve full charge so that all cells are equalized, then they can discharge together so they will be equal when the charge together...

I still hear from time to time by uninformed Verizon techs that the Lithium Ion battery needs to be fully discharged... this is incorrect.

Yes screen goes off when i put it by my ear, I dont have the screen set to auto I have it set to 0% by an app. Usually as far as percentages go Voice calls are usually more than anything else, followed by display. Phone idle and cell standby are next and they are usually equal w/ each other.

So we were originally led to believe. But current research and testing proves otherwise. The 'batteries' do not need the full discharge but their management programs do, for your reading and educational pleasure (particularly the 4th paragraph):
How to prolong lithium-based batteries

This is one reason new smartphones are so 'off' in their battery assessments at first. And why most laptops (and some new OS) have cycling programs built into them and recommend an "cycling" every so often.

If you care for more I was reading a very detailed study the other day that looked at regular 'full' discharges and their effects on the performance and life of lithium-ion batteries. In short they too determined that a complete discarge every 30+ cycles increased the life and performance of lithium-ion cells. I can go through my history and find it you are still not satisfied. They have dozens of charts and study criteria if you want to get that detailed.

Edit: Found it for those that are interested. http://www.mpoweruk.com/life.htm#dod
Pay particular attention to the sections of 'Depth of Discharge' and the 'Charging Level.' You'll see that even with regular complete discharges battery life isn't drastically effected if you adjust to realm of what can be expected during 'normal' use. I find the implications of "Charging Level" to MORE interesting and have more impact on the life of the battery than discharge practices. Also notice the Cell Aging section.

Don't know what to tell you... Sorry, you may want to go get it replaced or give it a few more days and if that doesn't improve DEF take it in. If your call usage (for as little as you reported) is taking that much battery life and you're only getting 1/2 a day something is off. You may want to try an app manager and start killing apps (and YES windstrings I've read the threads about how 'it's not necessary to kill apps' but it won't hurt for his purposes to try to diagnose this issue(s)). There is obviously something draining battery your battery or it is defective (which I have seen reported). Wish we could have been more help.

I find this to be a tuff question to answer, almost as tuff as asking " what phone should i buy " ... they're just too many variables that go along with trying to answer.

battery life...

usage
signal strength during the course of the day
number of Apps
in coming/out going calls
charging

what's normal battery life for me. may be different for you.

Ballpark answer only may apply... you take a simply variable like a phone with 60, 80, 100 Apps... compared to a phone with 10 or 20 Apps, battery life will vary. If your usage is low and the number of Apps are low, and signal strength is strong all day/night... maybe a battery should last a day and a half... or two.

Hi and thanks for this great thread. I have a problem that seems like it must have a simple solution, only I'm too dense to find it. I copied a bunch of music onto my Motorola Droid that was originally ripped from CDs. The album info is included on my computer. But when I added the music to the Droid, all the album info disappeared, so instead of whole albums, I just have a bunch of songs. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks for your time.

Try using a program called Double Twist to import your music and pictures as opposed to just dropping them in. It's free and available on the internet for both PC and Mac.
I'll look that up, thanks. Can you tell me though, can I controll the order in which the songs are listed. Many have complained that songs are listed in alphabetical order which seldom is how the artists intended.
Thanks!

Push gmail

I don't know if I have set up my Droid correctly, but I don't seem to get my gmail in sync with my computer. Can you go over the basics of push email for the Droid

Uploading External Videos to Motorola Droid

If I have a video that's on my computer and in the proper format for Droid to play, what folder do I "drag and drop" the video into? Or is there another/better way to get videos on the droid? After I get it there, where do I find it.....in "Gallery", or somewhere else? Thanks for your help in advance.

DROID VPN Setting

My systems administrator says that he has all of the settings I need to configure my VPN, however the names/prompts DROID asks for when configuring VPN are not the same ones he enters on other phone (iPhone for example). For example it does not ask a login id, but does have secret. Is there somewhere I can go to get a better explanation of what goes in each of the required configuration fields ? We are using L2TP/IPSec PSK VPN.
