VZW disabling tethering apps from market

Are you absolutely sure that there is no criminal liability here? Not saying that Verizon would pursue this but I can imagine them drumming up a charge if they wanted to.

In the 70s, some guy named Doug Draper, aka Captain Crunch, discovered that a 2600 Hertz tone would allow him to make free phone calls. He was eventually charged with toll fraud and sentenced to 5 years probation. Don't know all the details of it. Maybe he was selling devices that did that.
then he showed woz and jobs how to do it....and the rest is history.

Are you saying Captain Crunch is partially responsible for the iPhone?!? :D

Obviously stealing leads to being a multi millionaire. (gates got his start hacking into school systems to change grades....)

I personally think this is BS on Verizons part. I mean hell there are a billion dollar company, what is tethering really going to hurt? I Tether yes and i do all the time. I use there app during the free trial and its great, with the app they provide i hit a pretty good amount of data. Will i continue with the wireless plan? Maybe I am not sure. But tethering IMHO isn't bad for a Billion dollar company.

Oh no we lost 2 Million this year From our BILLIONS of dollars we already make each year. Darn you tether's you put great strain on us.

What company on the planet would knowingly allow a loss of thousands let alone millions without attempting to stop it?

"ah well it's only millions", right?

yeah i know. I am just saying IMO. I know its not right and no company want to lose a cent, but its just how i feel.

Its like buying a box of 10 Hershey bars and Hershey telling you how you can eat it, share it, and who to give it to.

Its stupid, its not like tethering is going to cripple these industries

Well cellular bandwidth isn't as cheap as it is for normal wired ISPs so their costs are higher. A lot of us have stated that they are doing this because of their 4G network. With that speed, there is a lot of incentive to get rid of home broadband and unauthorized tether instead to save money. Not sure even Verizon can handle that if enough people decided to go that route.

No it's like buying 10 Hershey bars and then stealing 5 more because you feel they make too much money from them.

Not at all, but nice way to twist it there ;)

OK. A Better way to put it would be like going into an all-you-can-eat buffet and sneaking a friend in through the back door. You are paying for "unlimited" food, but you are breaking their rules because it's unlimited for only 1 person, not 2.

When Gates was a kid, he used to be in computer clubs that shared source code with each other. Once he started selling software, he was against it. I wonder why?

No one is using my tethered data but me....Now if I was letting my neighbors use my free tether you might have a valid analogy

Like i said its just MY OWN OPINION.

but anyway. How many people actually root out of all the carriers? How many of them actually Tether to replace there ISP? Its not such a great % for Verizon to be freaking out.

All in all the Average person Is NOT Rooted, And does not Tether.

But as I said eariler was that i use there app for tethering "Mobile Hotspot" and I may keep it up. Most likely going to pay.

I just think its stupid to go this far for so few ppl.

greed is the root of all evil.

Because that 1% who are abusing the network affect everyone else negatively. That's why they are trying to put a stop to it. Someone using 100GB every month slows down everyone else's connection. When they charge you for it, you are less likely to use that much.

Well it's enough people costing Verizon enough money that they are willing to spend money to stop it.

Ok so what if I am paying for the Unlimited Data & Their Mobile Hotspot "tethering" app, can I use ALL the data I want? Cuz hey i am paying for it. I currently their service and am at 30GB this month, so technically I can use 100GB more if I want.

No, their tethering option is 20/month for 2 GB. If you go over, you need to pay the overage charges.
