The phone wasn't always connected to wifi.

I got a Droid Incredible yesterday and went with the $15 a month data package. The sales rep told me I could use the wifi at my house and it wouldn't use up the 150 mb allotted with the $15 a month plan.

This morning I received a text from verizon telling me I had used my data for the month. I was connected to my wifi (at the house) last night and not using Verizon's network. Can you please explain how this might have happened?

I did. It said as of last night I had used like 100 mb. I only downloaded one app before getting home and setting the phone up to my wifi.

Yes...just call 888-844-7095...it's an automated process that will ask you 1st for the number you are looking to port in to see if there is a port request in process, once the system identifies there is not one, it will have you put in the number you are looking to replace (the temporary one you were given), then the one you are looking to port in...be ready to provide the number, the account number, and any pin or password associated with the customer service at the carrier you are porting from.

Hope this helps...TBV

TBV....can you tell me if this process will work for me. About 6 months ago I looked into getting a Verizon smart phone, but didn't because they (two different VZW stores) told me my "802 873-xxxx" number wasn't eligible for porting. Their story had something to do with purchases and contracts. My number used to be with Cellular One until ATT&T took over. Any advice you can give me on how I can possibly keep this number would be greatly appreciated.....I really really want the Droid X.

I did the number port thing. It asked for a PIN number for AT&T but I didn't think I had one so I just said I didn't. It said it was successful so I'm assuming I'll know within a day or so if I had one or not.

Update: Apparently it worked within an hour. I texted someone from my X and it came up as my old number. My old AT&T phone said I still had service but just now, it says I don't. That was quick.

I signed up with VZW from Sprint in April 2010. My wife and I both got the BB Storms (BYGO + good price and had what we wanted). A buddy of mine has a Droid X that he just replaced, it works perfectly, and he said I could have it if I wanted it. Contract-wise, would I be able to switch from the BB Storm to the Droid X? I'm not sure if the "smartphone contract" is with VZW or with BB. They have the whole early termination fee, but I'm staying with verizon, just wanting to switch to a phone with a different network.

Thanks!

You're good. It will be classified as Customer Provided Equipment though which means no warranty.

DroidForums junkie!

Ok I need to know if there is a chat/ im program that will not incur text messaging charges. Thanks for the help so far.
I was told at the store that google chat skype etc would use data not texting.

Anything that is not SMS/MMS will use data. So AIM, MSN, GTalk, skype will not earn you charges for text messaging. Simply put, if you're sending a message to something that is not someone's phone number, you won't get charged. If you are sending something to someone's phone number, you will.

Okay, here's the situation for a friend of mine, anyone who really knows if this should be
doable, I would really appreciate knowing.

She and her husband share an old plan, doesn't qualify for the 1-year step where you can
get new phones at contract price. but, they're past the 1-year mark.... due for New
Every Two in early April...

She wants to upgrade to a pair of Droid Incredibles with the BOGO deal right now. So
she called up and asked a rep could they okay the upgrade at contract price IF she
were to both change their voice plan to one of the nationwide ones that (would have)
qualified them previously plus also upgrade her txt plan (so they're making more money
on that too).

They said no, though I don't really see what they stand to lose here as it would
extend the contract another 2 years also.

And to that end, the rep got her to change their plan anyway - does that automatically
extend their contract then now?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Plan changes don't renew your contact. Annual upgrade eligibility is based on each lines voice access. Plan must be $ 49.99 + so the secondary line will never qualify.

Just don't see why they wouldn't work with them.

Their total bill is about what it would be had they had a nationwide family
share plan the last year, they're extending their contract by two years,
upping their texting plan, and buying new phones.

I just figured a rep would say, yeah, that's not a big deal because the
past and future money was all there and will be there with a new contract.

They should be able to get one upgrade now but getting an upgrade for a secondary line 6 months early pretty much isn't going to happen.

Ahh, yeah, I got you now after checking my account - extra lines don't
get contract price upgrades at 1 year. Didn't realize that - that sucks. :)

Just wanted to point out that youre completely right except on unlimited share plans secondary lines do get early upgrades
