Im mostly in it for gmail and viewing pdfs and excel, since we get alot of our docs in those two formats.

I to have the X but even that is not big enough lol

I just activated my Verizon account today. I've had AT&T for years. I didn't have the bill to switch my number over so I said to go ahead and start a new number. I was just wondering if it was still possible to switch my old number over to the new account.

Yes...just call 888-844-7095...it's an automated process that will ask you 1st for the number you are looking to port in to see if there is a port request in process, once the system identifies there is not one, it will have you put in the number you are looking to replace (the temporary one you were given), then the one you are looking to port in...be ready to provide the number, the account number, and any pin or password associated with the customer service at the carrier you are porting from.

Hope this helps...TBV

Thanks, TBV. I still have my AT&T line up and running so I'm assuming the process is to stop service on my AT&T line and then go through this automated process?

No, if you stop the service, your number will be lost...when the port process is completed the account is automatically discontinued and you will receive your last bill from AT&T. TBV

Oh, wow. That's even easier. Is there a fee to change the number?

So I call the number you gave, have my old number (AT&T), new number (Verizon), AT&T account number ready to give and just follow the automated process and it's done? How long does it take to take effect? Also, is there any way to somehow transfer my numbers from my old phone/SIM to get them on my Verizon phone? Or at least an easier process if I have to do it manually?

No charge for the port in process...

The transfer of contacts may be a problem as many of the VZW corporate stores no longer have the machines that transfer contacts, as there are various programs on phones that transfer contacts wirelessly...

You can go back to the store that you started your new service with and ask them if they are willing/able to do it being that you were from a different carrier, but I can't guarantee that they are able/willing to do it.

Some of the authorized dealers still have the machines, and they may charge you to do it.

If your AT&T device was a smartphone, you can connect that device to a computer and upload the contacts to Outlook or some other program that will then allow it to be exported to a CSV file which can then be imported to you GMail which is then synchronized with your Droid.

Good luck! TBV

I appreciate your help, TBV. One last question on the number change, you said a password or PIN number. Any idea what this would be? Like, would it be my AT&T online password for my account or like the last 4 digits of the SS# that's on the account? Normally, I'd just call and see for myself but I'm a complete n00b to this stuff and I don't want to screw it up the first time and then be SOL. Hoping to change my number before I have to go into work tonight so I just want to get the details all figured out.

By the way, do/did you work for Verizon or just have experience with this stuff?

The password in this situation is the answer to whatever you are asked by customer service whenever you call AT&T customer service or go to one of their stores to inquire about your account, and in most cases is not the same as your password to your online account...often, it is simply the last four of your SS#, but it could be anything if you set something up otherwise...

Yes, I work for VZW, have for two years now...the port process should take no more than 24-48 hours...just before the process is complete you should receive a text message letting you know to expect your phone to no longer work, or if all of a sudden it is not working, just dial *228, 'Send', hit the number '1' when you hear the woman's automated voice, music will play for about 90 seconds, and all is done; your phone will be making and receiving calls on your old AT&T number.

Considering I think we set up our AT&T account back in 2000-2002 or so, I doubt they'd really have anything else to ask. It's under my mother's name since at the time I was a minor and couldn't have an account and just never changed it. Back before there was real identity theft, my mom would give her social security number to rent a movie at the store so I memorized her number and so I never need to bother her to deal with AT&T and they never really questioned anything on the phone. The Verizon account is under my name.

I've decided to wait til tomorrow to do the number transfer since I'll need my phone tonight but not really tomorrow.

I appreciate your help!

sorry if this is waaaay off topic... but this forum is imo the best place to get answers to your questions.

SO on thanksgiving my dog chewed the bottom of my droid up pretty good... the grip thing that sticks out below the screen (i am under the impression that this is where the antenna is located) so long story short i can no longer place or receive calls in my house (if it does connect people can hear me, breaks up i guess?). I am able to get a signal around town however, it just doesnt seem to get the signal it used to. I have insurance, i was just wondering if i will be able to get a "new" phone? i forget how much it will set me back, but i have to do something. thanks for the help!

An insurance replacement is $90 and it may or may not be new. It will be better than what you have now.

I got a Droid Incredible yesterday and went with the $15 a month data package. The sales rep told me I could use the wifi at my house and it wouldn't use up the 150 mb allotted with the $15 a month plan.

This morning I received a text from verizon telling me I had used my data for the month. I was connected to my wifi (at the house) last night and not using Verizon's network. Can you please explain how this might have happened?
