Do you know if there if you are able to renew you contract before the 20 month point, and if so, WHEN!! I know they took away where you could get an upgrade and would have to sign a new contract. But what would happen if you walked into a store a year into contract and said that you wanted to renew? I also wanted to know what would be considered a government account or a major account

I have a question, I have had a family plan with three lines with Verizon for past 8 or so years, might be alittle longer. I am the third line (but handle the account) and the only one with a smartphone Droid1. I am up for upgrade in December. BUT... I want the Droid X now... How can I go about doing this? I thought about adding a fourth line and getting the Droid X on it, if I do.. can I switch the X to my number and reactivate an older flip phone to the new number and not have to pay the data plan? I don't want to pay two data plans when only one will be used.

You could, but you'd have to pay the $10/mo for the duration of the contract. It'd be easier to get the phone on the new number and deactivate your old number in December. That would save you some money.

No you wont have to pay two data plans.

Actually they don't have to honor their warranty if you purchase the phone somewhere else...you have to go to the store where you purchased the phone...yes I used to work for a verizon call center customer service on the phone.

So much misinformation in this thread...

Verizon honors your warranty, no matter if you buy through amazon, zwireless, Walmart, doesn't matter.

As long as it is an authorized 3rd party agent. This could confuse people who buy their phone on Ebay or from an Amazon Agent. AmazonWireless has valid warranty, but Joe Schmo selling his old droid on Amazon does not. Some Connect/Premium retailer stores sell phones that don't come up with warranty in the system, so sometimes it depends if you are buying a reconditioned phone from them that they bought of some dealer and gave a new ESN to...I mean you just gotta be careful because the truth is sometimes it's not always easy to tell.

If you buy a phone from your friend and activate on your account, the warranty is removed because it is now "Customer provided equipment" (CPE), and Verizon will only honor warranty when proof of purchase is attached to it. This means it was bought on that account via a retailer that is authorized to sell Verizon services.

Lastly, programs like Total Equipment Coverage (TEC, 6.99/month) and Extended Warranty (1.99/month), tend to stay on an account when you throw a CPE on there, thus making the system allow a warranty replacement when you come back 3 months later with a problem. However, some reps who recognize a CPE when they see it, might not process the transaction, because technically CPE equipment can't have these services added to it unless there is a promotion.....

Which reminds me! Right now through mid-May Verizon will add on TEC to any phone you bring in, but they do inspect it first.

That's a big suck. If they do away with my unlimited data, I'll give my love to Sprint.

Every time I hear something like this it...just annoys me. It's like people just assume that Carriers and Coverage are created equal, but they are not. You make a trade off when you start paying less.

Just remember, you get what you pay for, and that is truer than ever in the wireless industry.

Can any "Verizon Rep" answer why the big push to lock folks in on contracts now? I have received 4 texts trying to get me to upgrade my phones and lock me in another year or two. Is Verizon worried that ppl will start leaving? I am holding out until the Bionic or Atrix (I know it is out on Att) comes to VZ..just wondering what the insiders may know.

I have read alot about rooting and tethering in the forums and how some people seem to be freaking out about what some individuals have said. Why would they be freaking out? I don't get it. If you Tether and have unlimited data what is the problem?

Thunderbolt Question

I am thinking about getting the Thunderbolt from Verizon but was wondering if I can hook my home computer up via the phone like a Wifi hotspot. So that I don't have to add another line. Does anyone know if this is possible? Does it take the download of an application that costs money? Sorry I am kind of new to this.
Thanks

2 Questions.

First one being, I purchased my girlfriend and her sons phone's through Costco. Low and behold, less than a month into it, both her and her sons chargers stopped working. I spoke with Costco, there's nothing they can do. Spoke to an in store Verizon rep, and there's "ABSOLUTELY nothing I can do." was his reply. I thought all parts were covered under a manufacturers warranty? Why must their Customer Service suck so bad. I just want new chargers without having to pay for them. What can I do?

Through Costco, they waived the activation fee's through Verizon, but we paid them through Costco. They said we were supposed to be receiving rebates from Verizon regarding them. No rebates came, went to Costco, "Nothing they can do."

Well, for both of these issues, what can "I" do?

Chargers are covered by a manufacturers warranty. Verizon facilitates this for purchases made through them. Costco apparently does not. You can still contact the manufacturer for your warranty.

Verizon charges activation fees. If Costco offered to waive them, they owe you $35 or whatever, not Verizon. Check your paperwork.

chargers are coverd through the manufacture and through vzw. atleast the home charger is. verizon will give you a replacement for it, unless it has been less then 14 days from purchase. then you have to go back to cosco.

as far as rebates go i'm not too sure. if they waive the activation fee, then that should have been done right there. if the phone had a mail in rebate, thats something you fill out. should have your name, adress, and have a place where you sign and date. there is also a adress below the part where you sign and date. the last thing you need to do is cut out the upc from the phone box and send it with the rebate slip you signed and dated.

lastly i know you got the phones activation fees waved and all, but is it really worht this headache? sure you got a $35 and $25 activation fee wavied saving you $60 up front. but 2 home chargers not under rebate are $50. plus this rebate thing. this is why i HATE when people go to places like walmart that sell the service, but dont know what there doing. it makes verizon look bad, and it makes thier customers upset. a word of advise for the future is just go into a vzw store, and save yourself the time.

the big push is because getting you to sign that new contract is part of thier jobs. verizon reps litterally have a job of calling people who are out of contract and try to get them to upgrade. verizon just wants there customers not leaving.

second part is i highly doubt the atrix will ever come to vzw. very very few phones have ever been on multiple carriers, and to be honest the only 3 i can think of are the razor, iphone and blackberry curve. sure the thunderbolt and evo are about the same phone, but there technically differnt. same with the samsung galaxy line up.
