What are Your First Impessions Of The Galaxy Nexus?

I'm confused what "google bars at the top" are you guys talking about?

Well I hit the Verizon store on the way home. The Nexus back is falling off the display model. Someone in R & D really dropped the ball there.

The screen is beautiful. I compared it side by side to my Bionic. I brought up maps to watch zoom in zoom out. The Nexus is clearly better.

But the Rezound has the best screen and a better build. The Bionic has the best build. As clumsy as I am I like a stronger frame.

The Micro Sim card was the bad thing for me. I had hoped to switch back and fourth between the Bionic and the Nexus.

So I guess i'll hold out for Moto's first Quadcore.

This volume issue is an issue for me. I really hope it is a software fix and Google is listening.

I have a Bionic I bought through Costco online and tomorrow is my day 88, so I have until tomorrow to exchange it over the phone with the online store, or until Sunday if I go to a Costco warehouse. That said, I am not sure what to do. I have a feeling I should exchange it because my Bionic has been rebooting itself since I bought it, just out of the blue, or sometimes, seems random, when inserted in the docks. Also, my bluetooth earpice, which is even Motorola, freezes the Bionic once in a while. I have not noticed any of this after the Bionic update though, so I do not know what to think.

I went to the VZW today, and the GNex is nice, feels weird attached to the store cable. I tried videos in youtube and that unit had really low volume (at max), compared to the Bionic. @SSHGuru says that his is loud though. I tried the Razr and the volume is extremely loud, it impressed me. But I am not sure I like the idea of a non removable battery.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for your opinion!

(those who hate people who return/exchange please do not troll, I DO have issues I feel could award a legit exchage, though Costco's policy is no questions asked, so it does not matter)

Got my Nexus today. I was a little disappointed when I looked at the phone. There are several nice things on the Samsung Charge that this phone doesn't have :frown:

Overall the look of the screens and button locations are nicer on the Charge. Font, size, graphic design. Especially the app screen. The Charge had nice big icon boxes. It looked cool.
On the Nexus there are lots of mini apps on one screen and so they are smaller. The icons are not as attractively designed and they aren't in uniform square boxes :frown::frown::frown: Not as cool

I have trouble finding the apps screen and the settings key is not on the front like Charge ... you have to click two menu items to get into it. This phone is not that intuitive.

On the calendar and anywhere you input information the Charge's input screens looked better... you typed in boxes. The nexus has a line you are filling out, not a box.

No cradle dock yet for the Nexus, and when they do get one it won't come with a free spare battery like Charge's did and the only one they had was a vertical one. I was told not horizontal because the charger opening is on the bottom instead of the side. Hopefully they'll come out with a different one soon or the one that charges with the 3 dots.

The rep told me that since it is a google phone it can't use any Verizon apps like My Verizon, Verizon videos or VZ Navigator  Is this true?

If I had known all this I would have kept the Charge I returned end of October in anticipation of waiting for a supposedly better phone.

But after waiting for it for a month and a half I couldn't buy another Charge, seemed stupid.

At least my verizon store is having a class soon dedicated just to the Nexus. All other phones were generic droid classes.

The camera is great so far (quality wise), but can I press a button on the actual phone? I don't like clicking the screen, I shake that way.

This phone is going to need some getting used to.

This is what I noticed so far, will give more updates as I find them

2nd thoughts

cons: bad battery life, cant copy pics from computer to GN, no SD card slot, cant save and use ringtones sent from someone else, thats a bummer.it does not have Swype Texting, really no Swype Samsung com'on man!!!!
pros: fast, 4g, ICS OS,sweet display very vivid and clear, and the camera with zero shutter lag.

I'd be willing to bet it's because ham-handed customers pull it out fast and slam the end of the tether.

Seriously, I can't see any way the back is going to be an issue in normal use. It's a cover, not a structual anchor point.

It's a good idea but free's up no extra screen space...
I believe that's because that space is used for the trash bin regardless of the google search, and if you install a custom launcher the extra space is usable.

Those coming from the D1 will be disappointed with ANY phone - the speaker on that was unbelievable.

However the Nexus speaker is as good as any other phone since the D1.

new favorite ringer for me is themos. Frigging ice cream truck. Awesome

Mine is likely to be returned in the next few days since the earpiece likes to make a fairly annoying "crackling" sound while talking on the phone. My 4G speeds aren't anywhere near what some other members are posting as well. I do like the phone itself, but at this point it may be exchanged for something else.

I only get 8-9mb down compared to 20 on the bionic

4.45Mbps down and 3.89Mbps up on my most recent test. That just about falls in line with previous tests I've done.

Sounds like you definitely prefer touchwiz ui rather than stock android...its all personal preference...some like stock android, some like motoblur, some like touchwiz, and some like HTC sense

I was in the VZW store around noon and they had a problem with the tether pulling the cover off. The guy mentioned it was a problem with the new tether design they switched to not allowing the back on the phone to close properly.
