What have YOU done with Tasker?

Speaking for myself, I never heard of that one. Saw a posting on LifeHacker about Tasker, looked into it, and found that it could do everything that I wanted, and so much more on top of that.

What made you choose this app over Setting Profiles? I've been using the later for a few months now.....

I was using Timeriffic before Tasker and it did what I wanted...but seeing Tasker here and what it could do made me want more power! :-) It makes your phone personalized more so that what wallpaper & themeing can do...

I tried to create a Profile that turns on GPS when I open Maps or Navigation. Maps works fine, but for some reason it doesn't recognize Navigation, whether I go to it from within Maps or separately. I either get the "GPS is disabled: Show locating settings?" dialog or "Searching for GPS." Anyone else have this problem?

HTC Incredible, Froyo, Rooted with Unrevoked

Yes I do, and it happens because Navigation checks to see if GPS is enabled before Tasker enables it.

The way to fix it is to create a new task that enables GPS waits ten seconds then opens Navigation. Then create a widget that opens that task.

If you need help with this let me know.

Any way you could go into detail on setting that up in Tasker, I also tried and failed............I just couldn't seem to figure it out.

Thanks in advance.

Tasks - New - Navigation - Ok
Misc - GPS - On - Done
"+" - Tasker - Wait - 5 seconds
"+" - App - Load App - Navigation - Done - Done

On your homescreen - long click - widgets - Task - From the drop Down choose navigation - click the blue question mark - application icon - navigation - Make Widget

Sweet! Thanks, I will try it and report back.

Not sure how many people will find this one useful, but it helps me.
I use the GolfLogix app for distances, scores, etc. when I play golf. The problem is, when I load the GolfLogix app, it sets my display timeout to never. The display, along with the GPS, is a big drain on the battery.

I made a task to:
1. Turn on GPS
2. Load the GolfLogix App
3. Wait 5 seconds
4. Set the display timeout to 25 seconds

Replaced my GolfLogix shortcut with a widget to my task.

PS: Also enjoy playing with many of the tasks/profiles mentioned in this thread. Just wish the location option worked better when my phone is indoors. I always get a location of where I last used my GPS instead of the phone's actual indoor location. Was hoping the wifi/cell determination would get it closer.

The wifi/cell task shouldn't use your gps at all. It should work much better for you if you are trying to enable wifi.

If you aren't then anywhere you see %loc in a profile, replace it with %locn and it will use your cell tower as the location instead of stale gps coordinates.

Tasker ROX!

I have 3 location based profiles using 3 different contexts.

The first profile is home. Checks to see if my wifi router is in site. If it is, set's bightness to low, Ringer to high.

On exit, sets auto brightness.

2nd profile is "in my car"

It knows when I'm in my car because I have a cheap Sony BT5700u Bluetooth radio. When I enter the car, and turn it on, my phone automatically opens slacker (which is set to replay last station) then goes to the car dock!

When I exit my car it doesn't pause slacker :(

When I get to work, currently I don't do much, but since I work in a funy multi building area, I use cell locationing. When it sees tower X, it shows I'm at work, and sets silent mode.

No effin around w/ dates. Works when I'm working from home or hollidays automatically ;)

Thanks for memembers who posted the tasker wiki. Some of those profiles helped me to build my set up, which AMAZES friends / family. My wife thought I was pretty cool when she got in the car, we started driving to din, and slacker popped up :)

On a side note, slacker doesn't allways hold it's settings (maybe between reboots?), so sometimes I have to select a station. Anyone know why?

I'm attempting to use the tasker profile as listed on
http://tasker.wikidot.com/auto-respond-to-phone-call.

However, I am unable to get my phone (D1 with stock Froyo) to respond
to the camera button while the phone is actively ringing. The camera
button (and any attached tasks) will work fine when the phone is not
ringing, but I get no response at all when the phone is ringing.

I disabled Tasker and tried again, and the phone itself won't do
anything when I press the camera button when the phone is ringing, but
that may be just how it's supposed to work.

How do I get the camera button to be recognized by Tasker when the the
phone is ringing?

Thanks.

I was talking about the lost phone task that sends an SMS with your location in google maps. Using $LOCN doesn't work for me on that one. I get a message from google maps asking if I meant "Lane".

Does anyone have a "lost phone" task that returns the most accurate location, even if indoors? I'm guessing the GPS location is most accurate if your phone is outdoors but cell phone towers to narrow it down if indoors.

If you are using $LOCN that is wrong its %LOCN.

Other than that I will have to test it this evening after soccer and I will get back to you.

I wrote this so hopefully I can fix your issue. I couldn't test it because I don't have an sms plan but I can test the camera button part. I'll let you know what I find and if I can fix it.
