When Will the ThunderBolt Be Available for Purchase

I don't understand why this is hard to believe? I guarantee you most people were just slogging along with their Android in hopes that the iPhone would eventually make its way to Verizon. As for getting new subscribers, this is the best way for Verizon to entice potential new customers from AT&T and, especially, T-Mobile/Sprint.

54% of Verizon Android/BlackBerry Users Switching to iPhone

While most people are waiting for their contracts to end or, at least, for the iPhone 5 - you will see a lot of people moving from BlackBerry and Android to iPhone.

I get that it doesn't make sense and it's stupid - but the vast majority of people want an iPhone. Specs, power, data, speeds, capability, how closes or open a device is, hacking, rooting, tethering - none of these things matter to the vast majority of people who just want the iPhone because it's heavily advertised and most of their friends have one. It's a status symbol as much as it is a phone, and for the average joe, it's Verizon's ticket to success.

Androids are for enthusiasts and geeks. We're a minority. I think I compared the iPhone to Justin Bieber in the closed thread - yeah, he sucks. We know it. It doesn't make sense. But that doesn't make him any less popular.

I agree there are those who will be switching to the iPhone from Android/Blackberry, but one study of 700 people hardly tells an accurate number.

I thought the number was around 23% that VZW saw switch, which is still a lot, but no where near 50%.

There's more than one survey - results vary from 44% and up - but that doesn't make it any less accurate. Give it a Google.

You, me, people we know - probably into Android. But get out there in the general public, and you'll find a lot of smartphone apathy - it's either iPhone, or nothing.

You're right that the gen. pop thinks iPhone or nothing, but we both know the gen pop doesn't know much when it comes to what they're buying. I'm not knocking Apple's product, but it's abundantly clear a lot of Apple's customers bought Apple because of the name, having no clue that other options have pros (and cons) to Apple's offering.

Either way, any of these surveys (and yes I did look at a few others) are just that, independent surveys, not actual numbers.

Until VZW releases sales figures for the iPhone, we'll all be left speculating.

I agree we'll see a big number, but half of the Android base? (this isn't at you, this is at the survey numbers as I realize you are merely posting what you've found)... I don't think so. I'm figuring we'll see it settle in around the 20-30% mark. While many people did buy an Android phone on VZW because there was no iPhone, some of those actually like the Android platform. I don't see a mass migration taking place.

We knew there would be some transition, but it's not like half of VZW's Android customers are going to switch.

I completely agree that the iPhone has more mass market appeal, it's the shiney-shiney that most people want. But I really don't see anywhere near 50%+ of VZW's customers switching to iPhone. As the mod pointed out 700 people isn't really a very broad survey.

When the iPhone 5 drops it will be interesting to see the sales numbers for VZW vs AT&T and iOS vs Android (assuming a high-profile Droid comes out around the same time). Not saying the iPhone can't grab a large portion of VZW's customers, but so far the iPhones sales do not reflect that. As more people come out of their contract and upgrade (and the iPhone 5 drops) it will be very interesting to see how it all shakes out.

It's clear that any speculation on the release date of this phone is nothing but a wild (and wildly inaccurate) guess. No one can or will know when this phone will launch until Verizon makes and announcement.

(And I hate it when people end sentences with this word - it's smug and annoying - but I'm going to do it this time to add emphasis and show how strongly I feel)

Period.

I said a month ago march 17 or april 1 and got flamed. Looks like I might be right after all.

I've been getting flamed here for weeks for saying that this phone won't release until March. Some people actually got angry. Apparently threads were closed because my disagreement was "throwing the discussion off target" and messing with the "positive atmosphere" of the forums. Not that I was being rude or disrespectful about it, but people got really mad that I thought they were wrong. I offered to eat my Blackberry if it released in February and everyone laughed, told me they couldn't wait to see the video of that... hahaha, "we all know it will release Feb 24, Miami said so, we have proof, emails, it's official, my friend is a rep/manger/salesman, we have emails, they told us, they promised, we have documents, photographic evidence...."

Oh well, I think you and I deserve to gloat a bit.

I agree we won't know until then - I think it was stupid to think so many people would break their contract or pay full price for the iPhone just because it's on Verizon. They are waiting for their contracts to expire and/or for the iPhone 5 that they know is coming out. Those numbers are a poll, but they do reflect a consensus found in many other polls like it.

We won't know for sure until iPhone 5, but I think you guys are underestimating the popularity of the iPhone compared to Android.

Miami never stated 'official'. but that's neither her nor there, the device isn't here today.

... I do remember you offering to eat your Blackberry... and that would've been a great YouTube video, but myself (and your digestive track) are glad you don't have to. lol

In no way am I underestimating it. Anyone that follows any tech knows the following that the iPhone has. It's enormous... but Android isn't the red head step child anymore, it's a real contender to take market share from Apple.

This summer I would expect to see the real battle as you mentioned... with LTE rolling out and devices in tow.... Android v. the iPhone 5, the stage is set. I just don't think it's going to be earth shattering numbers in Apple's favor that Apple is expecting. Android has a footing, albeit not as strong as Apple's, but it's not going to be a lopsided ordeal IMO.

Thanks... I wasn't too worried about it, but I was speculating as much as anyone else was. The evidence just didn't add up though - Verizon was content to sit on this one, and they're going to continue doing so for as long as they have to, no matter what that reason may be. I was also worried that little trackball might get stuck in my throat.

I know nothing Miami said was official - neither was anything else anyone said or claimed. But people did cite Miami as being an undeniably reliable source.

What can I say, you win some you lose some.

If the TBolt doesn't drop till mid or late March I may just have to make myself wait for my NE2 in mid-May. I'm not super patient, but I work like to see some hands on reviews of the Bionic before I totally comit to the TBolt. I'm still about 70% sure I would still go TBolt no matter what, but since the NE2 is the last I'll ever get (and I've jumped the gun and missed out on my last 2) I really want to make myself wait.

But I'm so ready for something with horsepower to spare to it will be hard to wait it out.

I'm rather certain there is a serious issue with the TB at this point. I mean, Verizon has kept the whole thing abnormally hush hush, and legitimate dates have been getting pushed back.

Being Android or iPhone... regardless what the mfg., if Verizon's first LTE offering has issues it's going to create backlash, and I am with you in saying VZW will sit on this for as long as need be. It would be a disaster to have the first LTE device a failure, again... regardless who made it.

You do! (on Tuesday)

Effington, I know you like to bring up that survey every time someone says no one will switch, but the fact is: A mere survey of 727 people (only about 364 of them ACTUAL Verizon customers) only makes up 004% of the 9.3 million smartphone users added JUST last year.

According to BGR, only a mere 30% of Verizon iPhone buyers were Android users. I think if 56% of Android users were actually switching to the Verizon iPhone then the sales wouldn't be "performing a little under what Apple and Verizon anticipated".

Data proof > 700 person survey

Just saying...

EDIT: Just saw BUFFALO's post. Good job! :D Credit for finding to him
