In no way am I underestimating it. Anyone that follows any tech knows the following that the iPhone has. It's enormous... but Android isn't the red head step child anymore, it's a real contender to take market share from Apple.

This summer I would expect to see the real battle as you mentioned... with LTE rolling out and devices in tow.... Android v. the iPhone 5, the stage is set. I just don't think it's going to be earth shattering numbers in Apple's favor that Apple is expecting. Android has a footing, albeit not as strong as Apple's, but it's not going to be a lopsided ordeal IMO.

This is where I disagree - Android's only major advantage was being on Verizon and AT&T's exclusivity of the iPhone. Now that exclusivity is gone, and all things being equal, more people will be getting an iPhone - and that includes switching from Android. I expect the number of users on Android vs. iPhone to begin greatly tipping in iPhone's favor when iPhone 5 is released.

I'm not sure it will be earth shattering - right away anyway. But give it about 2 years, and as people's contracts expire, more and more will choose iPhone over Android and Blackberry.

I agree it's speculative, and I don't like it, but this is where it seems to be going.

And this is our line in the sand. First, I'm glad it is an amicable split with no harsh words. Second, the trend is for Android's market share is to grow, not decline. I think the iPhone 5 will not see the sales it's expecting on VZW.

Android is here to stay, it's not just a placeholder for Verizon anymore. It's world wide and across all carriers. iPhone isn't alone on the mountain.

Honestly, at this point if the iPhone 5 would come out I would take it over the HTC TB, because this is ridiculous. When this phone was marketed as the Inc HD back in August as a 3g device it was amazing. Now that they decided to make it 4g it's more of a 'meh'. Both Verizon and HTC should know better than to delay a device 6 months. A month is a decade in technology nowadays.

Hey Effington I am still riding my unicorn to Verizon on Monday.. I want to see this BB go down.. LOL.. It was fun and a shame it had to go down like the rest.. So any bets on the first week of March? :)

It's come to my attention that myself (being the biggest de-railer) and others have allowed this thread to go off-topic.

Let's get back on topic. (this goes for you "self" ::smacks self around a bit::))

TB release discussion...

No to monday per bb manager and verizon rep

...the vast majority of people want an iPhone. Specs, power, data, speeds, capability, how closes or open a device is, hacking, rooting, tethering - none of these things matter to the vast majority of people who just want the iPhone because it's heavily advertised and most of their friends have one. It's a status symbol as much as it is a phone, and for the average joe, it's Verizon's ticket to success.

Androids are for enthusiasts and geeks. We're a minority. I think I compared the iPhone to Justin Bieber in the closed thread - yeah, he sucks. We know it. It doesn't make sense. But that doesn't make him any less popular.

I'm anxiously awaiting the TB myself and following the release date news, gossip and speculation way too closely... Although I am a fan of Android I'm also a big Apple fan, not a fan boy, but a fan. I suppose it is getting a bit OT but I couldn't resist...

Sure there are blind Apple fan boys (and girls) everywhere but to generalize to the extend you have is a bit ridiculous.

-You know that many people do not shop on specs alone
-You know that specs alone absolutely in no way make a good (or the best) product
-The quality of materials, design, and finish on the iPhone is untouched
-The iPhone simply works, an idiot can use it, that is both good and bad, but more good
-They have the higest resolution screen (or at least did until very recently)
-Have the largest app market
-iPhones can be jailbroken and modded, there has always been a small communty of enthusiasts who do some great things with their Apple stuff, phones and otherwise

P.S. I do not have nor do I want an iPhone...

Cheers

Went to Verizon Corp yesterday. My D1 is toast. Charge port issue. Bought a battery so I can swap back and forth.. talked to guy about Tbolt. No dates, but what I got was.. He advised do not claim out the D1 cause I will not be able to use upgrade so soon after claiming on insurance... and knowing that I am in a real bind till the TB comes out, he told me.. remember the return perios is only 14 days so return it when you get the TB..

take it for what it is..

My roomate works for a Wireless Zone retailer. They got an email today saying they will receive thunderbolts next thursday (march 3rd). The email was from their supplier ATI. I realize this is just hear say without any evidence, I will try to produce a screen shot by the end of the day.

As for bestbuy being the only 3rd party retailer, I'm not sure. His wireless zone has had a dummy phone since the first week of february and received all the signage and training materials.
