Went to Verizon Corp yesterday. My D1 is toast. Charge port issue. Bought a battery so I can swap back and forth.. talked to guy about Tbolt. No dates, but what I got was.. He advised do not claim out the D1 cause I will not be able to use upgrade so soon after claiming on insurance... and knowing that I am in a real bind till the TB comes out, he told me.. remember the return perios is only 14 days so return it when you get the TB..

take it for what it is..

Wasn't aware you couldn't upgrade within a time frame after a replacement...

.... so within two weeks was what he was implying ? :icon_eek:

No, he'd be implying it'd be outside of two weeks.

Well I just some very good news. My doctor said, "you don't have TB" NOT FUNNY

Speaking from a doctor's perspective, it was better for both of you that he didn't say "You have TB"

I promised myself that I would not be the ten-thousandth person to post what he heard but someone recently asked for some confirmation of VZW stating anything specific. While not specific I think it's very safe to confirm that each rep says what they want independently and can choose to say it the way they want.

My recent conversation with a VZW upgrade specialist said mid to late March which made her "mad because she wants a TB too!" Later my question to my company's corporate rep got this reply:

"Unfortunately I do not yet see a release date listed for the Thunderbolt. Normally that means it is at least a month away. My unofficial guess is that it will be released sometime in April. Normally in an effort for us to sell what we have, we are not informed well ahead of time as to when future devices will launch."

His last sentence speaks volumes.

it would have to be 'within' two weeks otherwise the option to return it wouldn't exist :)

Has anyone used tethering on these things? I have it on my D1 and it does not support infrastructure so I can't tether my Archos ( D1 does what's called AdHoc ) .... Does the paid Tether support infrastructure?

Which Archos do you have? I've been wanting an Archos 5 IT with the 500GB HD, but I may just get the Archos 48. I use PDANet to tether. One time fee, and if you have the Marketplace hack you could likely use that.

I'm not so sure the speculation about people preferring Apple over Android is that far off topic - after all, it sort of explains the reason Verizon isn't so eager to release this device. It's just not a game changer for them - it won't bring them new subscribers like the iPhone will and I'm guessing demand for it is quite low.

I really do think that HTC and Motorola will start shifting their Android attention to AT&T...

Well with Assurion there is something stating that you have to leave the new devie active for X period of time.. I know I could get around that. My personal issue would be spending $50 to claim and lose $50 towards my Tbolt.

Within 2 weeks.. thats what I took from it.. of course def not official and gives no dates, but telling me to return the battery when I get my TB gives me something within the 14 day window to hope for..

Its your opinion I don't think it hs anything to do with the iPhone at all they will make money either way

ima swing by my store when i get to work and see what they have to say.. i work for congress and we have a VZW contract. and a store in the building i run so i might as well swing by and start a conversation

I was guilty of going off topic as well, but this is about the TB release, not Android's penetration to other carriers.

The rumors don't point to VZW's lack of eagerness to release, more so to the issues with services (Skype) and/or the LTE network.

Yes it can be factored in, but no more iPhone talk please.

They should have had firmware and all this crap fixed up by the time they set the first estimated time, or at least extremely close to it.

It getting pushed back as many times as it has, is getting ridiculous.
It might as well release with the bionic at this point, in which case why even make the phone.

I woudnt care if the Bionic was released last month, i would still be here waiting for this phone.

Never again will i buy a phone with an encrypted bootloader. Dual core, meh, this 2nd gen does awesome, and i'll take that extra ram as well. Look how much better it is going from a D1 with 256 to another device with 512, 768 is gonna be great.

agreed, the spec boost isnt worth it to have to deal with blur. I know moto makes good quality devices, and have some of the best cell radios(antennas?) in the industry, but after having the inspire 4g for over a week, I was used to sense 2.0. Its just so slick and snappy, its really pretty close to perfect. Almost regret returning it!

I picked up an inspire yesterday to hold me over until the TB comes out at which point will give the Inspire to my and will not settle for the Bionic . Motorola has some work to do with their bootloader and yes it was a good gesture with the xoom but I need to see some unlocked phones from them before going back. The community in general needs another phone like the D1 to bring some sort of frenzy back into development. By the way there is no doubt in my mind that the TB has the Inspire beat and it only makes my decision to get the TB more concrete
