Wireless Moot

Decided to take the plunge, that is if I don't chicken out by the time I get done downloading all of the HoB files. It's taking FOREVER!

I figured heck, I've already voided my warranty with my Bionic's unexpected swim. From what I can see, insurance will still cover the phone if it's rooted?

I've yet to hear of anyone being denied coverage for rooting. That's not to say it can't happen....just I haven't seen it happen.

When I got my insurance, they told me I could smash it with a sledgehammer if I wanted to, and as long as I paid the deductible, i'd be fine. So I wouldn't worry much about rooting.

Yea, I have TEC on mine, as well, and I've never had a problem. Hell, when I bricked it in December I brought it in to see if they could help me fix it and before I even knew what they were doing they had put in for a replacement. Knowing full well what I had done to it. They didn't care.

Alrighty then, finally got through the 60 + pages since I was able to get online yesterday, see that at least 6 billion new users have joined the legion of HoB so now Samuri should be able to give Dogbert a run for his money when he decides to try and rule the world! I see even Lodmot made the switch! Soooooo, since my phone has started getting really nuts (running Darksp33d 2.1) which was part of the reason for not being able to get online last night, and since I have to blow the thing away anyhow, I now submit my application to join the legions of HoB and start my .246 upgrade. I just wanted to make sure noone had found a reason for not upgrading (like maybe .248) so now its off to uninstall safestrap and HoBit to join my brother/sister Bionic users in the glory of a new day!

May the Force be with me!

This is not true. People have a very big misunderstanding of what's really happening when they FXZ.

OK. Glad you said that. I've read your FAQ (several times) and it really doesn't touch on what an FXZ is and why it's important. Would it be possible to elaborate and/or add it to your FAQ so there is no misunderstanding?

Dave has actually explained this quite well so I'll steal his explanation. So on windows there's an upgrade install and a full install. The difference being one updates an existing installation and the other does a completely clean, fresh, full install. The same is true of updates vs FXZ. updates patch your existing install and require you to be STOCK unmodified whatever version it's designed to patch. An FXZ, otoh, is the full shebang. It contains all the flashable partitions to reset you back to a minty factory fresh state. We use parts of the 905 FXZ to prepare a phone when moving from ICS build to ICS build. Without the FXZ, we aren't able to accomplish that.

OK. That makes a lot of sense.. but now I don't understand why after moving to say 246 you can't FXZ back. I assume moto is doing something to the firmware to say you can't use that full system image anymore? Just curious to understand the whole thing. Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question.

sargentmajord
