With all the issues the Galaxy Nexus is having, why is it being proclaimed the best?

It's the same thing as being an isheep. The fact is that nexus gives reception of over -100 DB. But it's the best? Speaker is low. But it's the best? landscape mode has lag but it's the best? Who cares about an unlocked bootloader? Why spend $300 on something that has to be rooted to work properly. it should have been tested correctly. No update for the rezound because it doesn't need it

LAG?? I had a rezound for months... you don't wanna go there. And rezound easily has the worst battery of the bunch. Plus the processor is outdated and can't see the phone in direct sunlight, the buttons turn pink and the red leaks out light at the bottom of the phone. I can go on and on but fact is THERE WILL NEVER BE A PERFECT PHONE OUT THE BOX... but with an unlocked boot loader the devs can fix most problems.

Thread cleaned. Let keep it nice folks, no more warnings. Thanks.

Every phone has its goods and bad. Heck the iphone even has issues. As a user you must decide what you are willing to deal with and what is your priorities. The Razr and the Rezound are on par with the Nexus and it just comes down to which you prefer. Motorola has the better radios, htc has the better custom ui (subject to opinion), and gnexus is pure google ics. Being the first to ics means you have to wait for some apps to catch up and update...meaning some of your favorite apps may not work. The Razr do not have a removable battery so you can not change out your battery or put in an extended battery for longer trips. HTC is known to have poor battery life compared to its counterparts. Basically they all have their goods and flaws so decide what you want and what works for you. Just because you like the razr that does not mean my nexus is a crappy phone. It just mean you prefer the razr. Its amazing that exactly 1 year ago we had this same conversation but it was between droid users and those wanting the vzw iphone.

Exactly; I don't care what phone people use. I choose mine based on my wants/needs and tolerance of the things it doesn't do well and features. My hope is that people buy phones they like and get good value out of them, even if its an iPhone. Not my choice of a phone, but it works well for many, many people.

This bashing of people for choosing one phone over another is just silly and a waste of energy IMO.

The issues-
sound problem-annoying but can be kinda fixed
signal problem-people who do not have the problem dont really post. and the ones who do, (me) are really just annoyed with it because its not the best. its a problem but it will be fixed by google. i still get decent connection, and its better then my d1, by far. even with the problem i can browse the internet smoooothly:D

-camera- its not too great but i can take flawless pictures of my school notes. the time it takes to get to the camera is great for me because it encourages me to take more pictures. The quick shutter speed is a feature thats similar to siri on the iphone in that its nice to show off, but its not going to help you out so much.

theres a few more issues but id rather focus on the pros.

-Amazing screen. Its like having a desktop in your hands. with youtube videos, the screen extends and it just looks sooo nice. its hd in your hands.
-ics-godly quick. i have yet to really get a lag that was not a software problem with an app. it is just so smooth, i couldnt ask for it to be any better.
-design and build- with the exception of the plastic, the design is great. the phone just looks nice. and the fact that when the screen is off and that theres no logos on the front, then its all black. its just a nice look to it. no bloat at all! and the design is great as well, good for cases, good headphone jack:D.
-showoff ability- nobody in my school with the expection of one person, knew about the galaxy nexus. they dont even knwo much about andriod (its a struggle to go there since they all have iphones). with the galaxy nexus i can make them feel like they have an obsolete product. i can get into there heads that android is better. google included some show-off features such as the huge hd screen, the face unlock (i dont use this but its a goldmine in the show-off material), shutter speed, video effects, new operating system, and a phone thats smoother then the iphone.

some other great things i have not mentioned-
-high quality games can run on the phone with no lagg. the new modern combat 3 runs great.
-quickness- its just sooo smooth.
-look- this im not sure of but from others point of view, i believe it looks more professional rather then just a toy.
-build once again- one size fits all, phone edition. fits very well in my hands and i have small hands!

All this, and i have not even begun to talk about the development being done not only by the devs, but by google! Google wants us to flash custom roms, kernels. they literally give us files to revert back to stock if we mess up with it. They know what there market wants in the phone and they delivered, the best phone ever, the galaxy nexus. Blows away all other competition.

Everyone saying the camera is not too great either don't know how to use it or have a defective device. My camera is literally awesome. For emphasis. . . my camera us awesome. I haven't tested the rezound but 8mp is unnecessary and once focussed the pictures take instantly and beautifully. Everyone complements my phones camera (and everything else after I show them).

Here's a picture I just took to show you of Monterrey Bay.

Edit... have full 4G bars yet for some reason forum app says I don't have permission to upload after uploading. Despite the fact it worked in other thread...

If you went to buy a car- one was very good and could be driven off the lot and performed great but no after market parts.
The other car looks good but it has some problems coming off the lot, but lots of aftermarket parts. If your not a car mechanic, what should you buy?

Im not knocking Nexus @ all. Just saying.

This analogy doesn't really work. Literally anyone with a PC can root and install roms on their phone with the help from the dev community.

The same can not be said for anyone who is buying a car. Sure I could probably learn how to replace the timing belt, but do I have the tools to do it? Is it cost effective for me? If I break it can I take it back to the dealership and ask for a new one?

So little work is needed to get the Nexus preforming far better than the other stock phones and even if you don't mess with the Nexus it still preforms exceptionally well. Its not like you are buying an unusable piece of equipment and having to mod it to get it to work.

Also I think people are getting scared away by perceived issues because they come to this forum to research. I recommend this phone to everyone who asks and nobody has been disappointed. I would take it over the Razr and Rezound any day. If you wouldn't just go to those forums LOL. It won't hurt me at all, I know my phone is better and will remain so in the long run. :)

I guess I'll chime in. I've owned a D1, DX, Bionic, and now Nexus, and by far it is the best phone I've ever owned. My wife has a Razr and loves it (except for the battery life, but it's her first 4g phone so she's not used to it). I personally didn't like the Razr - I thought it was too thin and too light. Felt like I was gonna drop it as I could barely tell I was holding it. And the thinness didn't fit in my hand very well.

My Gnex has been a dream. No radio or data problems (except when there's been an outage). I love the look and feel, and all of this "plasticy" talk I just don't get. It feels solid to me (I do have the shell with the kickstand on it which is very solid). I did have to get used to using Google Music instead of having my music on the SD card, but it's actually worked awesome and I don't even notice any more.

The only issue I've had is a few apps not working (like NFL mobile, which I still can't get to work even with the recent "update" to ICS). I do like to ROM and mod my phone, but it was still awesome for the few weeks before I did. And I gotta say, the camera is awesome. I don't know what all the complaining is about. Used it on a skiing trip and every picture was clear and sharp (I've learned to force the focus on the first picture). Took multiple action shots with the instant shutter (after focusing on the first pic) and they all came out great. And after using ICS for nearly a month now I can't hardly help my wife with her phone any more without stumbling. ICS is just that smooth.

So maybe I got a good one. But I travel between Tucson and Phoenix every week and never had a dropped call or data loss.

And my only other issue was I used my Bionic to scan from our HP printer as a USB device, and my Nexus won't work. But other than that I even love the "sd card" - there's no mounting/un-mounting, I can see the internal memory while plugged into my computer, and it's really fast at reading/writing.

Still working to improve my battery but I use my phone a LOT, and it's still better than my wife's Razr. And since I can plug in at work any time it's never been an issue, but I'll still be working to get to a full day's charge.

So as everyone else has said, the "problems" are no worse than any other new phone, and with a lot of issues they will be easier/quicker to fix with the updates we'll get from Google and Devs. So it comes down to personal preference. But I wouldn't let the "issues" you've heard/read about sway your decision. Go with the phone that suits you the best and meets your specific needs the best.

I just got a G Nex today. I had to sbf my Droid 1 back to 2.0.1 recently.

Just based on my non scientific results...it might be a lil worse than the OG..and I'm on 2.0.1... my g nex hasnt been updated yet. I will test this bad boy for at least 10 days. If that holds true ..it wont match my dx1 or razr for reception.
Places my og struggled for holding the call the g nex struggled more.

From what I can see from real early tests. And when I say reception I mean phone reception. It did surprise me getting reception where I thought it wouldn't. They all surprised me really...lol

Razr speaker is louder. Notification light might need to be brighter, needs adjusting on the g nex . I plan a write up of my thoughts of ics, and comparing ics and the g nex to the razr. I will say that compared to stock 2.3. and older ...ics kills everything else before. ..that was stock android. This is what I call a real ui improvement.

Also wanted to add the build quality of the g nex is fine. And the razr isn't too wide in comparison. What some ppl might not like is the thinness of the razr. The gnex does feel better. Maybe cuz the back of the g nex rests in your palm.
