YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

Personally, I think John should ante up his paypal info.
I'd throw him a few bucks for gas and a dinner tab for him and his wife to travel to an LTE area to test :) :)
If just a handful of people threw him a few bones, he'd have more than enough to make it worth his while IMO.

Just throwing it out there.

Just throwing it out there...on DF only officially badged devs and themers are allowed donate links.

"...throw him a few bucks..." Think about it.That suggestion is insulting.:frown: Do you feel the necessity to pay your friends for favors? Don't you understand that his wife is pregnant and he wants to stay close to home, family and familiar medical facilities? I think he's done enough. It's just a phone not the Ark of the Covenant. Should you decide to purchase the TB I'm sure you will be the first to post a revue ouf it's LTE performance even if it requires a major inconvenience.

Slow down your roll there Turbo.
Although I've kept up on most of this thread, I didn't realize his wife was pregnant and I apologize then.

I don't pay my friends for favors, that's why they're my friends.
I don't know this guy from Adam, and I'm sure neither do you.
Therefore as a token of my thanks (and I'm sure the thanks of many others on this site following the thread) I would like to show my gratitude.

I didn't mean to insult him by any means. I didn't realize his wife was pregnant...and I surely understand in that light.

That being said...it was only a suggestion. If you take offense to that, perhaps some "unwad panty in a can" should be on your short term list of things to purchase.

Thank you. As a new member, but actively reading the topics on this particular phone, I was unaware of that.
My apologies to the board.

I just don't need to be talked down to or talked to like a child (not directed at you)

I was only trying to show some gratitude since the OP mentioned 1.5 hour drive and the price of gas.

That's all, nothing more....

Thank you for the clarification!

:)

yea conditions are far from ideal for Johnny to drive 1.5 hours away just to post on here.....hey guys it works...:) If he does cool, if not he gave a more then good enough reason not to be able to make the drive. He said he might and that's all we can really ask for. I think so far he has given us tons of good info, and like I said before he's told me a lot more then random posts online or what I have heard from vzw employee's or BB sales people. If Johnny goes to a 4g area in a week, so be it. We still can't buy the phone so what's antoher week to find out it does exactly what we want it to do (short of skype video)

The continued updates are truly rewarding and keeping me focused on waiting for the launch despite how impatient I am to get one. While I do appreciate HTC putting 20 or so clock widgets into the phone, which to me is a ridiculous overkill they really should have put in toggle switches for the data radios after all widgets are for quick access so you don't have to dig into settings.

I noticed Beautiful Widgets does show a 4G widget, but there is no clear way to reach the developer to find out if it will work on 4G LTE or just WiMax. I purchased a copy of it so when the TB hits I will install the app, but will have to goto Rochester to find out if it works, good reason to visit my sister :)

I would like to thank Johnboy for all his effort to answer questions from us waiting for the release of the Thunderbolt. I know this post has been about the Thunderbolt but like some of you I live in an area which only supports 3G, and Verizon doesn't even have us on the radar for upgrades to LTE service. With the rumors of a replacement of the Incredible (Incredible 2) with, again rumored specs that the INC 2 will have onboard memory similar to the TB would any of you be willing to wait to see if Verizon is going to keep the unlimited $30 data for 3G before jumping into a 4G device with potentially higher priced and/or limited service? I have been waiting for my first smartphone and resisting purchasing either the DX or INC to instead get the newer technology offered by the TB or INC 2. I would appreciate any and all comments.

Yep this is the one, it shows 1525 for the gaming score after the 5:00 point or so, after doing the final 'jelly fish' benchmark. The Droid X was 1900 something in their tests by comparison..

That is a Smartbench result, not a Quadrant test result.

I'm no expert on benchmarks by any means, I just saw that the score was lower than the Droid X, between 1525 and 1900+, and really almost all the others were pretty much higher than the Thunderbolt on that one score. What does that mean?

echo all the rest on the thanks... also good luck and best wishes with the baby...

My question:

Anything you don't like about the phone or wish was different/better?

The only thing that I really have to complain about is the location of the USB port on the phone. It is counter-active if you have the phone in landscape with the kickstand out. (I would envision myself watching movies while charging it, but the port prohibits that from happening.) The one other minor complaint would be a lack of a camera button on the right edge of the phone.

I wonder if there are specialized usb cables that have a more so flatter less protruding end, so that it could just barely be a bump for the phone while in its horizontal position..? Kinda like with certain headphones where some go straight out and other take a right angle?

One thing I was also wondering was how the sound quality for music was via headphones and via the speaker. Seems really loud via the speaker in the demos at CES. But one thing that really bothers me with the Droid X is using standard headphones, like over the ear Sony ones, when I'd crank the volume up to up to one from the top volume setting or the top setting would hurt my ears. I listen to metal, but even so, I think without, since I also prefer Pandora, some other songs be they New Agy, Rock, Jrock, softer Rock, Ballads etc all hurt.. Im thinking part of it is the compressed sound, but still.. would you say the sound quality is any better in the Thunderbolt? I have Power Amp for stored music but it still doesn't remedy it.
Bigger Speaker = Better sound (in this case at least). I did mention a comparison somewhere around page 4 of this thread, LOL... seriously though, if you search the thread, you should find it.

Yea no I read it all so far, and only saw comments on the speakers, not the sound within headphones (as in regular jogging headphones, not Bose or what not).

They have 90* USB cables, but it would still interfere way too much.

It's wimax only, but the developer is very good about user requested updates. He can be reached through the market or the app, but I don't think it will do any good without an LTE device to test it on.

i'm not one to really care much about benchmarks, since real world use isn't always reflected by bench scores. however, there is easy to find information out there regarding the TB benchmark.

comparing apples to apples (same benchmark tests and stock device) the droid x doesn't keep up with the TB in any of them. and you shouldn't expect it to really. the TB is using more current cpu/gpu tech than the droid x is. there have even been comments that the bionic with its dual core processor isn't much faster, if at all, than the TB. might be a different story between the bionic and TB once the bionic sw is optimized.

here's a link to the quadrant benchmark tests for the TB. notice where the droid x is on the graph. HTC Thunderbolt benchmarked, probably sports Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8655 at 1GHz - Phone Arena

i can see the location of the charging port being an issue for a lot of people. not a deal breaker for me, but definitely an annoyance if you'd like to charge and watch a long vid or movie. at least skype calls can be done while charging/using the kickstand in portrait mode.

i'm sure htc was aware of that being an issue and they placed it there for a good reason. rumor is it was placed there to make the port itself more sturdy to mitigate some of the issues seen on the EVO with its charging port becoming loose or breaking from the board.

the biggest benefit of the TB kickstand is that it can be used in both landscape and portrait. an improvement over the EVO that can only be used in landscape.

hopefully that placement means they're going to provide a dock and don't stiff TB owners like they did incredible owners.
