YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

Hey thanx for putting up with all of our questions. :-) I just have one. Would you mind downloading the speedtest.com app and running that while on a call so we can have solid numbers on performance while on a call? It's a free app. :-) thank you again. This thread has made me want this phone more and more.

No call test (WiFi off, three bars of signal in 3G):

Download: 541 kbps
Upload: 518 kbps
Ping: 172 ms

During call test (WiFi off, three bars of signal in 3G):

Download: 502 kbps
Upload: 568 kbps
Ping: 149 ms

I ran the tests a few times both while in a call and out of one... the results varied a little, but I took the first readings and posted them above as they were about the median scores.

thanks for posting all the great info about this phone and answering all the questions, johnboy!! can't wait to get this phone in my hands!! Heres hoping for a march 10th release date!

A few questions about this phone:

1. How smooth is scrolling in the browser? iPhone4 smooth or choppy like on Droid X?

2. Can flash player be disabled in the browser and physically removed from the phone?

3. How loud is the speaker in both notification sounds and when used as a speakerphone? I remember my HTC incredible was not very loud, while wife's Droid X is extremely loud.

4. How is call quality? Any noticible static or other annoyances?

Wow thanks! Simultaneous 3G data and voice on Verizon is huge. That is the one big thing that I (and many others I'm sure) like about the GSM networks.

Awesome thank you very much for that. :-)

This thread has been very interesting to read. Thanks to johnboy for all your insight. My coworker is getting the Thunderbolt the day it comes out.... whenever THAT is! :D

A few questions about this phone:

Everything on the phone's screen is fast and smooth. (I never had choppy issues on my DX though.)

2. Can flash player be disabled in the browser and physically removed from the phone?

Not sure why you would want to, but from what I can tell no to both questions.

3. How loud is the speaker in both notification sounds and when used as a speakerphone? I remember my HTC incredible was not very loud, while wife's Droid X is extremely loud.

As stated a few times, the sound from the speaker is fantastic. Now that I have used it more to play music, there is a difference with the kickstand out as opposed to having it in, but it performs way better than all the phones with the tiny speakers on them.

4. How is call quality? Any noticible static or other annoyances?

Has worked well for me in both full signal and two-bar signal areas.

This is surely a stupid question, but one guy speculated that the kickstand might be springloaded and strong enough to support the phone with the charging port on the top while in landscape (upside down). Doubt it's true, but could you give it a try, if that makes sense?

Yeah, I don't understand why the charging port wasn't put at the top. It seems like an obvious design flaw.

The only thing I can think of is that they put it there for a Car and/or Home Docking station like the Droid X. The software Docks on the DX are activated by a magnet in the bases.

Even if that were the case, I would have put the USB cable on the right side (the top of the phone when the kickstand is used in landscape mode). That way, you can use the kickstand and charge at the same time, then if you want to dock the phone, you would simply flip the phone 180 degrees and use it in landscape mode on the opposite side.

I think im going to have to buy a drill and start drilling holes everywhere I set my TB to watch a movie, just so I can charge it lol.
I can just see the manager of MCD, Sir, sir, what are you doing? SIR! is that a drill!? SIR!!! YOU CANT DO THAT!!!!! LOL

Not at all, actually it's a nice idea.

The kickstand is springloaded, however, it is not strong enough to support the weight of the phone when used in the alternate landscape mode. Mine just falls to the table.

Well, it was worth a try. Maybe we can rig something up to keep up the kickstand from collapsing.

Not sure if the battery is a bit better conditioned, or the phone likes WiFi, but I have had the phone off a charger for over 8 hours now, low to moderate use, and WiFi active most of the time and the battery is at 69%. Seems to be a bit of an improvement. The real test to validate the battery conditioning will be tomorrow at work.

If you don't wanna spend the dough and get a fancy charging/docking station, all you need to do is put the phone on like 2 small raised blocks on each end with free vertical room in the middle area, so you can still charge the phone. Just find something around your house that are even in height. Or make something nicer out of cardboard, wood, whatever.
