YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

Well, about to heat to bed and the battery shows it is at 52%. It has not been on a charger in over 13 hours, and been using 3G and WiFi all day. I have not been using the phone as much as I do on a work day, but still very impressed.

In thinking about this whole supposed battery issue on 4G/LTE, I honestly can't for the life of me figure out why... If there is a separate radio for LTE, wouldn't it actually be on now in the background still drawing power, especially since there is no power toggle or option for it?

The only thing that I really have to complain about is the location of the USB port on the phone. It is counter-active if you have the phone in landscape with the kickstand out. (I would envision myself watching movies while charging it, but the port prohibits that from happening.) The one other minor complaint would be a lack of a camera button on the right edge of the phone.

I wonder if there are specialized usb cables that have a more so flatter less protruding end, so that it could just barely be a bump for the phone while in its horizontal position..? Kinda like with certain headphones where some go straight out and other take a right angle?

They have 90* USB cables, but it would still interfere way too much.

Jiminey Crickets..:/ Hey what if one drills a hole for the stupid usb wire to connect to from underneath?? Can't think of anything else to get around that..

That is a Smartbench result, not a Quadrant test result.

I'm no expert on benchmarks by any means, I just saw that the score was lower than the Droid X, between 1525 and 1900+, and really almost all the others were pretty much higher than the Thunderbolt on that one score. What does that mean?

i'm not one to really care much about benchmarks, since real world use isn't always reflected by bench scores. however, there is easy to find information out there regarding the TB benchmark.

comparing apples to apples (same benchmark tests and stock device) the droid x doesn't keep up with the TB in any of them. and you shouldn't expect it to really. the TB is using more current cpu/gpu tech than the droid x is. there have even been comments that the bionic with its dual core processor isn't much faster, if at all, than the TB. might be a different story between the bionic and TB once the bionic sw is optimized.

here's a link to the quadrant benchmark tests for the TB. notice where the droid x is on the graph. HTC Thunderbolt benchmarked, probably sports Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8655 at 1GHz - Phone Arena

Yea the Thunderbolt beat the Droid X and many other things in MOST or ALMOST all tests, EXCEPT the GAMING benchmarks, if I know how to read them at all as shown in the video that was posted. That particular benchmark for gaming showed the TB at 1525 and the Droid X at 1900 something while a few others in the S series I believe were in the 2300-2600 or so range.

Don't think this has been asked yet. What is Verizon asking you to report? I assume you have to report your results to them.

I ordered a right-angled Micro USB cable in hopes to test it out to see if that will resolved the issue with the Kickstand use while charging. They are supposed to arrive on the 8th, so I will report back after testing. (Still, it is frustrating that they did not think about this in design plans.)

Yea it is frustrating, no HDMI out, which the EVO has but with way lesser specs. Would have been nice to be able to use RealHDMI with it. Maybe it was purposefully done in order to make people have to get a certain dock? Look forward to hearing if the cable helps.

:yr1: Good Morning JB,
I've searched the forum and I can't find any info so here goes. Have you tried the FM radio? How's the sound quality (ear buds and speaker). Sensitivity? If you have an Aux port in the car have you tried it?

Yeah, I have the HDMI cable and home dock for my DX and have never used the cable but to test its abilities. (The home dock is nice for my alarm clock capabilities.)

Just tested it out. Sound quality is what you would expect for FM radio (I have Sirius/XM with the app on my phone, so I don't ever listen to FM anymore...)

It auto-scans for all channels when it starts up. Controls are simple enough (List of channels, Previous Preset, Next Preset, Change Preset name). When you hit menu, you can choose to mute the radio, switch between mono and stereo, switch from speaker to headphones, and then "Scan & Save" which will rescan and save the presets. If you hit the Home button or the back button, it will continue to play the radio and puts an icon in your status bar. You have to go into the app and hit the power button in order to turn it off.

I did plug it into my AUX port this morning and it performs comperable to my Droid X, the only issue is that I don't have a car dock for the TBolt.

I hesitate to give my reviews of headphone/ear bud listening as there are so many variables on quality of headsets, etc. that it really gets merky. I have a set of Premium Zune earbuds and SkullCandy headphones and there is no distortion or degredation in sound on either of those.

Does it cost extra to use Sirius App? I have a Sirius radio, but it would be so nice to get it on my phone for no extra charge.

hmm

yea real hdmi would have been nice. I've been waiting for awhilie for a phone that had hdmi out on 4g so I can stream sling box to a tv in a remote location with out wifi.

As for FM radio i'm suprised that the phones don't have HD radio on them. The signial is a lot better then xm, and has the sub carriers which is nice. The Am channels sound like FM which is great for sports, and the FM sounds like cd quality.
