YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

App Drawer>All Apps: No "Car Panel."
Some people have noticed that on Verizon's developer website, it does mention that a car kit is one of the supported accessories. Not definitive proof, note also that there are some errors in a couple of the specs, but I will remain hopeful.

See last bullet under Specifications:
HTC Thunderbolt
Here's a picture of the car dock, says that it 'automatically triggers navigation mode':

Seems that the slightly maligned VZ sales rep who told me that "...accessories were coming in." was correct:icon_ banana:

Awesome if true... that makes the move from DX to TBolt a lot easier and also makes sense why the USB port is on the left side.
Here's pic of where the charging cable goes in the back:

Nice design.

Also note the audio cable "clips" on the right side of that picture for some built-in cable management... very much like the Droid X Car dock that I have.

Liking the car dock a lot, nice to see you don't have to connect the power cable separately and then have it fall out a dozen times. I pulled over on a highway once to clean the USB jack on my D1 so the cord would stay in, state trooper comes by to check if I'm ok. No problem officer, just a little pocket lint.

Odd that it goes straight to nav mode rather than a car mode with a few large icons. No biggie, all I'd really want is voice search and I can map that to the hardware key. And I guess the nav image on the TB can't show Google Maps on the packaging, that's some sort of generic nav system that fortunately doesn't look like VZNav.

Video chat? That's legal in what state?

Hey all, a follow up to the 4G/LTE toggle issue we were discussing last night. BMX was on AC forums tonight and commented on it.

SUB-dawg: is there a 4G toggle widget on the bolt?

BMX: as for the toggle, it depends on what testing firmware you are running some devices do and some dont... retail units will have it either through built in or app installed..

This sounds very plausible & explains why our OP doesn't have it on his device. I think it's possible that they have different groups of testers trying different firmware versions, to see which one works best. They probably have the ability to send any updates to only certain groups (like by the esn/ meid number). This last bit is just my take on it, not claiming to have anymore inside info than the rest of you.:)

WOJ, thank you for all of the info! This page says that the TB supports GIF's...but it is not specific as to where. I.e., in the browser only, browser and native gallery, etc... I am wondering if you can check the native photo gallery app to see if it will display animated GIF's?

HTC Thunderbolt

Thanks in advance!

I just opened an animated Gif from my email account (it didn't open a browser, but I did have to "press play" on the animation). After downloading it, I went into the gallery, then the Downloads section and the file was there and I was able to view it just fine.

Nice! Thanks!! They only work in the browser on my OG Droid and wife's DX.

Curious, BMX has said repeatedly that there is the ability to either toggle LTE (like a widget) or disable it (like under settings where you disable 3G). I know he has said that you can turn off 4G cuz people on twitter have asked him that point blank & he replied in the affirmative. Since yours is a preproduction unit maybe that was left off? Hopefully.

That, or I have to be in a 4G area to have to option to shut it off...

I'd tell you to use twiiter and ask BMX how his has one and yours doesn't, but he is off of twitter for lent. You could try him at his blog,

. He has been using the Tbolt for at least 1-2 months so he should be able to tell you about it. I can also pm you his gmail account.
Sigh - Why does it matter?

Hey Johnnyboy,

I thought you had to turn your TB back in? Are you holding it hostage? :)

Probably because LTE is a power hog. A lot of people will want the ability to turn off 4G and conserve battery life.

I think he gets to keep it until early April.

If 4g data tiered pricing is only accrued while on 4g, then some may want to toggle it off and use 3g data bandwidth.

Because everyone who has used LTE on the phones say it's a huge battery drain. If you can toggle it off, you can increase your battery life by a lot. It's just like I do now with 3G. If I'm at home I use wifi and my battery life is increased to 1/3 - 1/2 vs. using 3G. Sorry if that's not something anyone is interested in, didn't realize my post would cause anyone pain. Just thought I'd research it as some people were asking about it.
