YEAH baby! My Demo will be here today!

WorldOfJohnboy,

Been reading this thread for a while...such a great source of info.

Have you been using a case with the phone? If not (or even if so), what's your impression of the material on the back of the phone? Does it scratch or scuff easily?

I'm not sure what kind of case I want to get yet, and I'm hoping I can use it for a little bit while I decide. What do you think?

Thanks!

I would say that about 80% of the material is "rubberized" plastic (that battery cover, which is very durable) and the rest is just a dark gray plastic. I am not getting a case, but may look for vinyl stickers to cover the plastic parts to prevent scuffing.

It's probably just me, but these 4" screened phones seem too big to handle most holsters or cases. I purchased a nice case and a holster for my DX and never used them.

So that's what it's like with the angled charger and it sitting on its kickstand..? That's not TOO horrible I guess. I wonder if they make a flatter angled USB charger..

Doubtful... I also have a mini-USB right-angled cable and it is the same dimensions. I am sure you can scour the internet though and find out.

If they release a Home Dock, I will just purchase that. If not, Portrait mode alarm clock seems to be the way to go.

Well folks, with the official announcement from Verizon coming, I am pretty sure that this thread will become obselete very soon...

In an effort to keep this somewhat still relevent, I am going to order my official TBolt as soon as it becomes available to me and hopefully will get it before having to return the Pre-Production model. (That way, I can see if there are any differences or improvements.) If not, then I will have to play it by ear or use this thread as reference.

On Verizon the thunderbolt WILL come out on the 17 of March, Its for real.Verizon has Approved it.:blackdroid::)dancedroid

Has anyone gotten an email regarding the release of the Thunderbolt yet from the Verizon Thunderbolt Tracker sign up? If not I would not get my hopes up high until you get the email from Verizon...

Awesome, that's good news, thanks. I agree with you about cases on the bigger phones. I'd love to be able to go without one on this if I could.

I did a search of the forum and didn't find this exact answer (I don't think)

My girlfriend has the EVO and she has a lot of problems with the charging port being defective. Sprint/HTC seem to refuse to want to fix this.

Do you notice any faultiness with the charging port on the Bolt?

None... in fact, the port is "sunk in" to the side of the phone a little bit that makes it seem as though only really hammering on the port would break it. (As in: You have to want to break it on purpose.)

This is part of the reason I think HTC relocated the charging port to the side. Perhaps it's a sturdier mounting point. Of course they also could have moved it due to packaging of the internals leaving the side as the only available space. The docks also could be a driving reason too. Either way, the port is located in almost the same place on my incredible and I can't recall hearing of a problem with one of those under normal use.

My only problem with this design is the kickstand. I understand if the are Car and/or Home docks that they need the port on one side, but they should have made the kickstand open up the opposite side so that you can easily charge it while utilizing the kickstand.

The only thing I can think of is perhaps they will make a home dock that is more like a "bumper" in that it plugs into the phone's USB port but still uses the onboard kickstand as the main support to keep the phone upright. That "bumper/dock" would then have a USB port on the back where you can charge the phone while using the kickstand. If they don't sell a home dock like that, I want to sell my idea to HTC ;)

You could be correct. Best Buy just called to inform me that the phone goes o sale on the 17th and that the info came from Verizon. I called my VZ store to confirm and the sales rep said that they did not have a release date!! However, a one year contract option would be available for the TB. To verify, I asked to speak to the manager who verified that there was no release date and that she didn't know whether a one year contract would be available!. I called sales again (different rep) and was told that they were having a meeting on *Friday* that should clear up all the confusion! I reminded her that the confusion was about a *Thursday* release and hung up. It seems that everyone knows that the phone will be on sale on the 17th except my Verizon store. Talk about screwed up! That's a real SNAFU.:icon_cussing::beer2:
