Im sure their will be other things in the update that arent mentioned in the presser..

I have a rooted phone I heard this 2.1 update will TOTALY wipe the droid. SO if it totaly wipes the droid do I have to unroot or can I just let the OTA update unroot and wipe the thing for me??

On another thread before it was closed, Gnmitchel said, "I could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that ota is disabled with droidmod which means you won't receive notification of the verizon 2.1 update." Is that accurate, so that I don't have to worry about updating to 2.1 by mistake or automatically, and getting a conflict? And is that true of all the mods?
to answer your question Friend, yes you will not get it, you would have to be uunrooted and in stock to do it.

i think that this will have hidden goodies there not yet tellin us like flash or a droid 2.1 exclusive somthing in there. like the nexus one has certain exclusive nexus one 2.1 stuff.

lol....Here's what I think will happen. People are going to find all kinds of "goodies" - most will be placebo - and for the first few days there will be joy in the Droid Forums. Shortly after that however people will start complaining about bugs - mostly placebo - and there will be great debate as most people won't see these "bugs."

Then about a week and a half later the next rumor for the next OS will come out and people will forget about all the other stuff, accept 2.1 and start talking about the next OS.

Well maybe it will go three weeks this time. We shall see. :)

With the official roll out I'll be going back to stock. I want to see how 2.1 runs and I'm confident that someone will root 2.1. and we will see what happens at that point.

Damn Hook!! We are always on the same wave length it seems!! I will unroot today myself and wait for the droidmod team to come up with their 2.1 improvement :)

Dude, I can remember back when I was too afraid to root and I was checking this site daily to see when 2.1 is rolling out with HUGE excitement every time! Then getting bummed every time...

Well now that I am rooted running a flawless UltimateDroid 7.8, 4 screens helix launcher, live wallpaper, 3d gallery, overclocked speed, dolphin browser, with everyhting I dont want deleted from the root system... well I couldn't care less about the 2.1 OTA update. Kinda funny how time changes things. Im stayin' rooted with my BlackDroid people!!!

By the way folks, this is available now, if you want to flash the sbf.

Its not rooted from the phone end, but thats easily resolved if wanted.

Also, it contains a radio update. Custom ROMs wont give you that. Only the OTA update, or the sbf will.
Where is this sbf? And what radio update are you referring to?

I still don't expect to see an ESE53 based ROM from cyanogen or droidmod, not unless Motorola releases the source code, which they've failed to do for the Droid to date.
Then how did the 2.0.1 ROM's get created? Did they reverse-engineer it post-rooting?

Tried to post this in the thread in the hacking section, but it got closed as I was trying to post and got redirected here. So, here is what I was going to post there:

If you are running SG 6.0.1, it doesn't block OTA updates by default. This is something AdamZ mentions on alldroid and apologized. He thought he'd have a bit more time. However, if you're using SPRecovery .99b or greater, that blocks it since you have to tell it to 'allow update.zip' to run. Adam also posted a quick fix that will block OTA's until he puts it into his installer.

You can check by going to /system/etc/security and check your otacerts file. If it is otacerts.zip, they OTA is not blocked by the ROM. Just change it to otacerts.zip.bak or something though and it will block OTA's.
