Sure they get donations and everything but why should it take a HUGE corporation with tons of employees this long to do it when its been able to be done for quite awhile?

Because it's a huge corporation with tons of employees.

Big corps have processes they have to follow. Those processes all too often take enormous amounts of time. I work in the financial sector doing coding, and a one-line bug fix (that I WOULD bet my job isn't going to break anything) could take weeks to regression test. Why? Because the business unit demands it.

After reading through this thread I didn't notice this question being asked/answered:

All the various 2.1 ROM instructions (that I have seen) tell you that if you are coming from 2.0.1 you have to wipe data. Anyone know if the official OTA update will do the same?

I am happy for this update! The rooted people should be happy too! This may have some repairs and give everyone's phone more stability! I kinda agree, if you aren't going to upgrade, than why post here. But on the otherhand, it should be a joyous occasion! Everyone stop fighting! Can't we all just get along?

I'm rooted and I'm HAPPY for this upgrade. The people who are rooted and saying they don't care are just obnoxious and they only rooted their phones to brag about it to other people. This upgrade will benefit everyone.

And what's with the whining about the extra homescreens? Just because it's not mentioned in that PDF it doesn't mean it's not in, besides... there's an app in the market right now that has the extra buttons on the bottom plus the ability to add more screens, everything except the useless 3D launcher. Stop whining.

And I assume this app is bugless, right?

So I guess not even the official devs could get the 3D app tray working. Thats a shame. I was hoping that if we could get some ROMS based of the real OTA then the 3D tray would work better. I guess I shouldnt complain at least they gave us a date.

Has anyone here ever considered that the 3D app drawer was never intended for the Droid?

C'mon ... the N1 has no phys KB, no landscape mode, and most of the issues with the ported launcher2 is related to making it work in landscape, etc.

Helix is awesome itself, works great, but doesn't need the 3D, that's just "flash" for the unit.

It would be nice to have it, if they can work it out, just my .02 ...

On the OTA, I'm happy, will pull my ported apps tomorrow, can live with it until I get back here to DL the:

Update.zip that I know the early receivers will get to us on the board right ??? :icon_ devil:

I then plan on: helixlauncher.

and when the new roms built or ported from this OTA come out, that is when I'll root and mod.

and await 3.0 ....

I've read that the 3d Launcher is actually a 2.2 pre-release feature which is why it is only for the nexus one right now.

There really is NO reason to come to this thread just to say you're going to stay rooted. What's the justification for the comments?

The vast majority of people have not rooted and are happy this is coming. The vast majority of people were happy with 2.01 and don't even know 2.1 is on the way. The vast majority of people will be delighted with the update.

The rooters have their own entire section of this forum. I think that's great and they should have a section. They do provide valued APK's for non rooted people. I don't disparage them for rooting - do what you want.

I just think coming here to the official 2.1 OTA thread to announce YOU are special and are not going to get the update is obnoxious and unnecessary.

Why not start a thread in the rooting section about this and talk between yourselves.

I'm pretty happy I'll get the cool animated wallpapers and all the upgrades. I'm happy there is finally a third party home replacement that seems to work very fast that gives me what I need.

I'm delighted with the Droid - and to be honest seeing people crowing about mods and rooting is a downer.

It's like two people who both buy Mustangs - one later buys an off market part that makes his a little faster. His friend who couldnt give a crap has to hear about it every time they talk. That's how we who chose not to root feel every time you upgrade your Mustang.
