There sure are a lot of people complaining about the 2.1 update saying we already have that! I think the thing to remember is that about 90% of the Droid owners don't have what some of us have... and me... I'm happy with DM 1.0 (Sholes made it easy) and with all the features of the 2.1 update thanks to so many hard working people on these forums (plus several more features since I am rooted... like overclocking and wireless tether :icon_ banana:) But if you figure there are at most what about 200,000 Droid owners max that visit the various forums and I will bet a pretty good percentage of them have still not rooted. So out of the 1.05 million Droid owners I think there will be a lot of happy people. Hell I wasn't unhappy with 2.0 stock coming from the Storm, just my opinion ( and yes go ahead and slam me for just guessing at numbers and percentages... Ha! ):cus:

unless Motorola releases the source code, which they've failed to do for the Droid to date.
That is simply not true, which is more than can be said of the vast majority of "devs."

Motorola Open Source site.

Droid source consists entirely of code found at the Android repo site. Specifically, for the current DROID release (ESD20) you can find the user space code here (android.git.kernel.org Git - platform/manifest.git/blob - android-2.0_r1_snapshot.xml) and the kernel space code here (android.git.kernel.org Git - kernel/omap.git/shortlog).

Looks like they could be prodded to update the description to reflect newer releases, but OTOH, it also looks like they don't do any modification to the standard Android codebase, so the open source code is all available.

The newer source is on AOSP.

All I can say is "Yeah" finally . :icon_ banana:
I would like to apologize to all for posting the comment about 2.1 being shelved , trust me am I glad I was wrong and gladly eat Crow , and wear the egg on my face .
Sometimes you have to beat the bush to get the truth out . :icon_ devil:

Flash was the thing I was looking forward to the most. This is a brutal blow to my expectations. There has to be some way to get flash on this thing!

I wonder how they choose who to send the updates to first. Alphabetical, date of sale, serial number, random, by location, or most beautiful people first? I think I will be last no matter which method they choose.

It is funny how people begged and complain about 2.1 coming out, and now when it's coming out they could either careless or complain about it. Ha can't make anyone happy at all. I for one am happy for the new release. :)

Thats what I'm saying. People love rooted roms, cooked roms. I do too, meanwhile I just want a completely functioning phone. I'm simplistic yet, apps like "drocap2" and all those, are on rooted devices. Not a necessity, but I enjoy the luxuries.

if it goes by...

date of sale, i may get it early.... :)

most beautiful people first, i think i'm in trouble!

Well considering I just got my Droid and my luck usually isn't all that good in lotteries, I am not holding my breath that I am seeing it tomorrow. Gives me something to annoy my wife with this weekend though. LOL!

"Release schedule is as follows:

At noon EST on 3/18 1,000 users will receive notification of the upgrade

At 11:59 pm on 3/18 9,000 more users will receive the notification to upgrade

After the first 10,000 users receive the update on 3/18 there will be a 24 hour period where no additional updates will be pushed.

On day 3 (3/20) 200,000 users will receive the update notification at 11:59pm and continue each hour until delivered to all users"

Nice, so 10k on the 18th, no more on the 19th, then 200k on the 20th.

I loved the time disputes, though CK has it right, and in the right order...

But RW-1 has the following for most of us here on the board:

Release schedule is as follows:

At noon EST on 3/18 1,000 users will receive notification of the upgrade

At 11:59 pm on 3/18 9,000 more users will receive the notification to upgrade

After the first 10,000 users receive the update on 3/18 there will be a 24 hour period where no additional updates will be pushed.

Sometime on the 19th, someone somewhere will get the update.zip to Droidforums, Droid Life, etc.

Sometime on the 19th, an X number of forum users, (likely a majority of non-rooted and running stock, a smaller percentage of rooted users who went back) will download and install the update manually. :icon_ devil:

On day 3 (3/20) 200,000 users will receive the update notification at 11:59pm and continue each hour until delivered to all users.

By day 5, there will be anywhere from 3 to 37 Threads about how the 2.1 OTA sucked, didn't have this or that, or if it has been rooted yet, ROMS made off of it, etc.

By Day 7, we all will have turned to the Android 2.2, 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 upcoming releases... :)
