Just to confirm, if you are only rooted (no different ROM installed), we need to unroot to get the OTA update (friend)?
I'm using DM 1.0 currently, contemplating the update, and lose my 5 screens, ugh.
If I decide to keep DM 1.0 for now, where do I turn off the OTA updates?
For those that have rooted their phones and say they don't care about this update, you should. This step is important in the survival and growth of the Android platform. The more fragmented the phones stay and split across different versions, the harder it is to get developers on board to make it grow. The faster ALL phones are brought up to 2.1, the better. Having a rooted phone is great and all, but does nothing to help the survival of the Android platform like this release does.
For those that are discounting the 2.1 OTA over a rooted droid/custom firmware (full disclosure, I'm running UD7.8), here is one very compelling argument for switching to the official verizon/motorola update (not sure if its been said):
How do you know if your custom firmware isn't actually a key logger with fancy skins running 1.2ghz? (I'm sure the hackers are stand up guys, just playing devils advocate here).
That said.. anyone know what will happen if I install the OTA update on a rooted phone? Will it disable the ability to root it again in the future?
tomorrow can't get here soon enough. For some reason, Helix is running slow on my Droid and maybe 2.1 will secretly have my 5 screens. Glad I'm EST, but hopefully that first 1,000 as well.

I stopped down at verizon this morning (wife droid camera wasn't working, so she got a new droid) and of course they didn't know anything about it...he even said, they'll probably be informed an hour before it rolls out.....
But RW-1 has the following for most of us here on the board:
Release schedule is as follows:
At noon EST on 3/18 1,000 users will receive notification of the upgrade
At 11:59 pm on 3/18 9,000 more users will receive the notification to upgrade
After the first 10,000 users receive the update on 3/18 there will be a 24 hour period where no additional updates will be pushed.
Sometime on the 19th, someone somewhere will get the update.zip to Droidforums, Droid Life, etc.
Sometime on the 19th, an X number of forum users, (likely a majority of non-rooted and running stock, a smaller percentage of rooted users who went back) will download and install the update manually. :icon_ devil:
On day 3 (3/20) 200,000 users will receive the update notification at 11:59pm and continue each hour until delivered to all users.
By day 5, there will be anywhere from 3 to 37 Threads about how the 2.1 OTA sucked, didn't have this or that, or if it has been rooted yet, ROMS made off of it, etc.
By Day 7, we all will have turned to the Android 2.2, 2.5, 2.7 and 3.0 upcoming releases...

It'd be nice if Moto/Vzw would let us know if we were getting Dalvik Turbo, and what that new baseband version means to us (BP: C_01.3E.03P as opposed to BP: C_01.3E.01P)

that doesn't mean we'll get it last, it means for pacific timers, it'll be 9:00am when the roll out begins. time does not slow down or speed up because we're in a different timezone, 12:00pm EST and 9:00am PST are exactly the same time
