I remember seeing on the front-page just a week or so ago that 2.2 would have 5 screens, is it for sure that the upgrades listed are the only ones happening?

Just found out that the ESE53 will be the official software that launches with Verizon on 3/18/2010. 2.1 is here!!!!

QFT. I would expect it to be a market download, and NOT included in ANY stock ROM.

Gee, glad you caught up!

You right that adobe has to release the flash. But I believe the understanding was that the update may include a software change that will allow the droid to use flash when adobe releases it. Because I can not compare the two I do not know for sure.

The droid will be able to use flash when it comes out!
The only requirement was that you needed to be version 2.1 which you will be after the update.

You mean 2.1?

All indications have been you will get only three. We will know for sure, shortly.

Whoops, slip of the finger on the Droid.

Yes I meant 2.1

I guess I can just hold my breathe and hope.

Be careful, next thing you know we will have 2.2 threads all over the place. The mods are already being overworked with 2 new 2.1 ota threads popping up every hour.

And I assume this app is bugless, right?

Has far less bugs than most 2.1 roms do. If you're willing to take the time to root and install a rom and deal with the potential bugs then you should be willing to experiment with different launchers and home replacement apps.

I think the countdown in your sig is wrong. It should be 12PM est, not 12AM est on Thursday.

wow i love this!!! i woke up this morning determined to root my phone no matter how complicated it was and then i seen this!!! awesome!!!:icon_ banana:

Rooting is actually incredibly easy, takes like 5 minutes. There are benefits for rooting other than just installing roms. I like the ability to make full backups and wifi tethering.

2.1 on the milestone has been rooted so no worries about the devs or droidmod having issues making their own roms. Good news to say the least

Newb here. I've had my droid exactly one week and was planning on rooting and playing with roms later this weekend. The news of the OTA upgrade throws a monkey-wrench into my plans.

Having read all 35 pages, I still have the following questions:

1. Does the act of merely rooting my droid mean that I won't get an OTA upgrade? In other words, can I root it today, not bother with doing any ROMs until later, and still avoid the OTA upgrade? Or must I install a ROM today in order to avoid an OTA update?

2. Suppose after a few days it becomes clear that OTA update is fine, that rooting it will be possible, and life in the ROM modding community will go on. If I simply unroot the Droid at that point, will I then have the ability to get the OTA update?

3. I've found plenty of instructions for rooting the Droid. Can someone point me to a link to unroot it for later?

Thanks guys,
Warr

1. If you install a rom you will not get the update. Chances are you won't get it tomorrow either, this isn't all going to happen in 1 day.

2. I don't know, that's why I'm going back to stock tonight.

3. I recommend you use DMupdater and at least root with it. Droidmod 1.0 has worked well for me and you can go back to stock with the simple press of an icon.

well I think most people will stay with the 2.1 roms they have anyways, but I'm sure if someone knowledgeable gets the update, they can post a copy for others to get instead of waiting for the ota.

now the question is, is this the same ese53 as the leak, or were there changes made since then? they may be using that build base but doesn't rule out extra work done since the leak... I assume.

seems rather dumb if it's the same as the leak since we've had it so long, I'd hate to think they sat on this for this much time and didn't do any changes.

I get this, but that's not my question.

My first questions is will I get the update if I root the Droid and DON'T do anything else. No ROMs. Just root.
