Thats the point I was trying to make. I am not saying todays ota was directly the result of that. But if someone was making some money off of a leaked unfinshed update. Then that would cause serious issues. You can imagine what the company would have to do to deal with that issue as far as seeing what all info was compromised. That would set the company back just dealing with that. They was already pushing to fix the bugs, and you add a breach to that and it would explain the long delay.

But wouldn't pushing out the OTA update make the software/code/whatever he had, not worth $$$ anymore, and he would stop making a profit on it? Due to the OTA being free? Correct me if I am wrong.

I'm still having a hard time understanding how Verizon handled this poorly. They posted a PDF that listed the features of the update. There is also a link to the instructions on how the update will happen and what to expect, how to, etc. You'll notice that that link points to screen shots from the 2.0.1 update. So basically, nothing new with the process.

The deployment schedule was LEAKED from a screen shot off an internal Verizon system that is not meant for customers. Why is is not meant for customers? Because if the date needs to change, the whole world isn't screaming that Verizon LIED. The person who leaked that photo had to sign a very detailed code of business conduct when they started working for VZ. The leaking of the photo of Verizon internal information is grounds for IMMEDIATE termination. So, if you want to be pissed at someone, be pissed at the kid who thought it would be cool to leak internal documents to the public.

For those of you who work at the local convenience store, I can understand that you might not get it. But anyone who works in IT, and in a large corporate environment should be able to easily recognize that leaking screen shots of internal info is NOT acceptable.

It's nice we got the info about the 18th, but I have not seen anywhere that Verizon had placed that info on a CUSTOMER FACING website.

Like I said, if you want to be pissed off, be pissed off at the kid who will be without a job soon enough.

Oh well it is a small update, I can wait. The phone is awesome as it is. It is not like the phone is unusable without the update like some people are making it sound.

Not if a dev already hacked it up and put it on the market. Then it make moto look like a fool for some garage dev hacking putting out a better update before them. Think about what was said on this forum how the ota is going to be a watered down version of what I have on my custom rom. Yeah that would cause some problems; any breech would.

I have to agree. I'm more amused than upset because this reflects on Verizon so badly. This is being made WAY more complicated than it needs to be especially on Verizons side for the most part. There's more than one way to skin this cat and quite honestly distributing the update this way reveals an OLD way of thinking. This should be available via download for advanced users (who care more than the casual user) and OTA should be left for those who aren't particularly pressed about it. This would alleviate the strain on the network anyway. Think Verizon! THINK!

But over all... I'm not to worried because I don't want to be without PDANet for a few weeks anyway.

Nobody should be particularly pressed about the update in the first place.

What I fail to understand is why people are so upset about the whole thing.

I could certainly understand if our devices were having connectivity issues or other hardware issues that would be solved via an OTA SW update but this is not the case. Our devices run "flawlessly" with no major issues at all.

People are essentially getting upset and irritated over Live Wallpapers and a Gallery.

2.1 offers nothing substantially different than 2.0.1 and it is not a NEEDED update.

The phone is stable and reliable as is. Be happy for that simple fact and patiently wait for them to get the distribution issue fixed.

What will happen is the people that are most vocal about this whole thing will then turn sour and complain that 2.1 is "not a big deal" and start ranting about "where's our flash?" It's a vicious cycle of never ending complaints.

Moto/Google/VZW are responsible for one thing. Delivering a great product that works and works well. They have met that.

I think people have lost sight about what a success the launch of the Droid has been. It's turned out to be quite a remarkable device right out of the box and we didn't suffer through ANY major issues at all.

Check out whats going on with the N1 and be grateful we are not having to deal with those issues.

Just want to put a little perspective on this whole thing. We'll get 2.1 and nobody will die in the meantime : ) Our devices work fine be patient.

Hey MagDroid, Your phone is listed as a Storm 9530? What's up with that? LOL

I want to thank all the people with rooted devices, for not throwing the delayed update into our non-rooted faces. Moto is really making me sad.

Actually, I have read comments from a number of rooted users that are unrooting to get this update, so they are as bummed as the rest. Personally though, with speculation as to whether the authentic OTA 2.1 release will be rootable or not, I would not and am not unrooting until I know for sure I can go back to over-clocking, etc. That said, I sure would like to have the authentic OTA 2.1 version as I hear it also adds improved radio functionality (CDMA radio, not FM!) so it should have better call clarity. I still get complaints everyday from people who can't hear me unless I go to my bluetooth...

How does that quote go- ...you can please all of the people none of the time? Lol

It's a mild annoyance at best.

Probably getting reports back from those first whatever 1000? or so people and having tons of issues so it gets pushed back. If I had to guess, kind of why it's done this way so they don't have a crapton of folks having issues.

People just need to settle.

Actually, Cereal Killer, there are lots of Droiders whose devices are NOT working flawlessly and are hoping the OTA update will address some of those problems. There are many such users who have been anxious to receive an update of any kind.

The problem CK is when you advertise it then pull it, advertise it again, pull it again. How bout not adveritising until they are "ready".
I am rooted and am staying that way until it is proved that 2.1 is rootable.
But I can see people getting tired of moto dangling the carrot in front of their faces. And what makes them look worse are pics and videos all over the web of people running the ese 53 on their phone (via custom ROM). so its like if a basement dev can cut up and put out a stable working update; then why is moto/vzw still finger...(messing around with) the update.
