2.1 ESE53 will be Official Release on the VZW Motorola Droid

This is kinda directed at CK.... I spoke to my local Verizon Wireless store and the rep read me the email she received last night. Making it official that the stores know about it(the update and times/quantities), and are telling customers this information. It's now official news.

With that being said, Moto jumped the gun telling the world about the update first, when to be honest, wasn't their call in the first place. Unless Verizon said it, no one should be getting mad at all.

Oh no a bug with deployment delayed an update! Would you rather have 1 or 2 more days with your "crappy" Droid, or get a bugged update now and deal with a possibly bricked phone? 2.0.1 works amazingly for an open source, multi platform operating system. Yeah it doesn't do EVERYTHING, but it's keeping me happy.

I'm a little disappointed at VZW because they weren't able to deliver, but **** happens.

I just talked to a Verizon "hub" store rep. The lady (though seemingly clueless) stated: "Oh yeah, the update went out today. You might not get it today because it only went to a thousand people so far.... I have had a few phone calls about it today already.

I was not convinced by her that the update went out.

I've read so many rumors today it blows my mind how people can twist statements into whatever they feel liike at the moment. VZW posts instructions on their support pages and someone reads that to say VZW has the entire update for download on their site. Then another person claims VZW lied because the update has been canceled. Third guys says that VZW posted instructions on how to cancel the update on his own website.

Man you people make a lot of leaps.

What I can discern from all the chatter...I think based on "facts" after trying desperately to filter out the useless chatter....

VZW may have sent out 1,000 updates. One person so far has posted that he got the update and likes it. 1000 Phones were chosen at random. Someone in some forum mentioned it would probably go out to west coast. Also a very specific list of area codes used to identify regioons was selected (all of which are west coast/mountain desert regions). Now VZW is waiting for feedback. If all goes well, at 9 pm (PST?)tonight they roll out another 1,000 updates.

If this whole process of testing works out nicely, we may see updates Saturday afternoon. Most phones will be updated by Monday.

Boygenius posted a report that the update was stalled, but he says nothing more and from there the rumors go wild. Maybe the stall was planned at #1,001. No information out there right now that says otherwise. Just a bunch of technojunkies (I'm one too) acting like crack addicts wanting that next fix. It really does crack me up.

Wow. 40 pages of people claiming they didn't care that the update was coming out because they've already rooted and are running cooked ROMs, and then 50 more of people complaining when the update didn't come out.

I throw $20 in to the wind that says it was the same bunch of people (but I have no intention of checking).

Okay, seriously ya'll need to chill out a little about the patch.

I know it contains some feature sets that you want to have, as do I, but your phone operates without it, and in most cases just fine. Are you so desperate to be bleeding edge that those of you, who will benefit (read = unrooted) are willing to take the risk of having some sort of bug in the code? Chances are if you are unrooted (some, not all) then you are already not as willing to have buggy software as others. Thats a blanket statement, but I venture a guess to say more accurate than not...?

So, what do you have to gain - buggy code for a few minor fixes and otherwise new toys? Relax - when its ready, its ready. It sucks that they announced it, officially or not and now possibly not coming out. But, seriously? "Im going back to my XYZ" - are you kidding me? Over an update/patch?

This is a great group of folks, but the mania surrounding the 'delayed release' and some of the reactions is silly.

With that - I want my damn patch!

glad u like it; what adds a lil humor to your day. we speculate cuz we dont know but as ck pointed out; time will tell. until then we we get more people talking bout going back to bricks, and razrs (minus the rooted droids that is:icon_ devil:).

If I remember from what I have read so far, it is not a bug in the code, but rather a problem with Bitphone, the people who distribute the updates for Motorola. It seems that the update was delayed by that, and not a bug in the update itself.

These are the facts so far:

Update was supposed to be due today.

Update not sent out because Bitphone, Motorola's update distributor, had some capacity problems.

So, now we wait. Which is fine. I am not going to lose sleep over it.

Same here. They basically speak to me like I'm an idiot. Doesn't give me much hope that the problem will be fixed. May have to return my Droids within the 30 days if 2.1 doesn't address this issue, so a lot riding on it for me.

x3. I talked to half a dozen different reps about the muffled audio on the other end and each one said "well this is the first time I've heard of anyone having this problem" and kept dismissing me so finally I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, less hassle

And less results.

Not in my experience. I've always had excellent results when filing complaints with the BBB.

It was officially announced yesterday by motorola via email.
I'm still having a hard time understanding how Verizon handled this poorly. They posted a PDF that listed the features of the update. There is also a link to the instructions on how the update will happen and what to expect, how to, etc. You'll notice that that link points to screen shots from the 2.0.1 update. So basically, nothing new with the process.

The deployment schedule was LEAKED from a screen shot off an internal Verizon system that is not meant for customers. Why is is not meant for customers? Because if the date needs to change, the whole world isn't screaming that Verizon LIED. The person who leaked that photo had to sign a very detailed code of business conduct when they started working for VZ. The leaking of the photo of Verizon internal information is grounds for IMMEDIATE termination. So, if you want to be pissed at someone, be pissed at the kid who thought it would be cool to leak internal documents to the public.

For those of you who work at the local convenience store, I can understand that you might not get it. But anyone who works in IT, and in a large corporate environment should be able to easily recognize that leaking screen shots of internal info is NOT acceptable.

It's nice we got the info about the 18th, but I have not seen anywhere that Verizon had placed that info on a CUSTOMER FACING website.

Like I said, if you want to be pissed off, be pissed off at the kid who will be without a job soon enough.

Now the Admins have jumped into the insanity.....they are so mad over the update they have decided to transform this site into a Jitter Bug forum.
