Motorola and Verizon work slower because they have quality control procedures that take time. Your couch cook doesn't have to worry with testing and testing and testing prior to a launch. His handywork is tested live. That is acceptable to the small handful of users who are willing to toy with modded ROMs but to the general public that would be unacceptable. Everyone loves to claim that their ROM is "rock solid" or "perfectly stable" yet a peek at the forum for any ROM will have many ongoing bug reports and weird issues. But since the ROM otherwise is flashy or fast, it's users are able to overlook the minor problems.

The ROM tinkerers don't have a multi-billion dollar publicly traded corporate reputation to consider. They also don't have to factor in support costs should there be a serious flaw. Can you imagine what a boot loop would do to VZW and Moto support? Don't forget that the vast majority of users are NOT power users and have no idea what root or ROM even mean. They just want their phone to work and to last until their next upgrade time.

Since its official that the update is post poned; and we will have the df home page lighting up when it truly is here. Its safe to say the party is over until vzw send out more info on the next official release date.

I don't disagree with you as a whole. However, if the list of 2.1 updates is as pitiful as it appears to be, then precious little has been accomplished. I worked in a large corporation and unfortunately know how it goes some times. HTC has produced full Outlook sync, 2.1 with a phone dock, camera sync, and numerous other items that just plain out embarrass Motorola. Don't get me wrong, the Droid is very good hardware but Motorola has really dropped the ball on the software end. They are incredibly slow... and as I said, adding in a few obvious enhancements that a guy on the couch could do are things that should have been on the gantt chart at Motorola. We'll eventually see what 2.1 turns out to be but I'm keeping my expectations low.

Please... I have a very good idea what it takes to do these kinds of things. As I said, watch HTC. The Droid has been out how long? Palm updates the Pre how quickly? How often? Motorola can't offer one half decent update in a half year? As of now, I like my Droid and it works relatively well with some real annoyances and bugs but it is the best Android phone Verizon has on it's offering.

I wonder whether Motorola is putting 10% effort into updating the Droid and 90% on building the Droid 2. We'll see how happy most of you are if you can't get even the basic improvements Nexus One owners have within the next six months or you can pay $600 for a new phone. This has little to do with capability and more to do with economics and corporate bureaucracy.

...that'll be 2mg's of Klonopin, couple tabs of Abilify, and about 800mg of Seroquel pills for you, slinky. That should slow your roll, sir.

Admins... my comment had not one foul word in it and was no worse than any of the silly torrent of mocking comments you've left behind. I guess those are OK because they are "droid positive" posters who talk about "Trolls." Whatever. I thought we were halfway grown up here and let these things fly so far as they don't clearly violate a terms of use and are seriously out of bounds. Even on iPhone forums I've never seen this kind of censorship and sensitivity.

Whatever. It's been real while I participated here but have no patience for this kind of nonsense and censoring posts. Have fun playing with your Droids and yelling troll at someone else who dares to make a few negative posts after being frustrated by something that should work properly, as we've all seen here...

The anticipation of the 2.1 release is almost as bad as when Revenge of the Sith came out. The closer the release date got, the further away it seemed.
Seriously? :D Everyone I know wasn't looking forward to that lame crappy movie, mainly because they'd already been screwed over by Lucas after the abomination of Phantom Menace.
