Well if nothing else.... New Moon just went on sale.... :)

boo.

i would be all like NO ONE CARES, but i dont wanna be offensive..wait i think i just said it...

the SLIGHT hope i had for it to be released and destract me even MORE from my chemistry studying, has been destroyed

Let's say hypothetically that they ARE rolling it out. Wasn't there something about being 200,000 at a time? And there's over a million Droid owners?

It's a big "we'll see what happens."

I am just amused that 2.1 ESE 53 is what is being officially released as the SBF for the dev version was leaked a few weeks ago and is on my phone and running pretty well in general for almost 2 weeks.

Only issues I have are minor glitches every so often (though less than 2.0.1) and more recently, I can not install the update to Google Maps 4.1, I get an error saying "Package file was not signed correctly." My Droid isnt rooted so I cant remove the old maps to replace it though I am curious if this issue happens with the OTA as well.

The Droid has been a HUGE success for all 3 (Google/Moto/VZW) and they will continue to build on the brand with future iterations of the Moto Droid.

I believe Steve Jobs was right when he said that Google wants to take them down. VZW's drew the battle lines in the sand when they went after AT&T and the iPhone and they are using the Moto Droid as their weapon of choice in the ensuing battle that is yet to come. I'd be willing to bet the Droid 2 will be quite a remarkable piece of hardware that will carry the brand forward.

The money alone spent on marketing and advertising is unprecedented in VZW's history and lets not forget how much cash they are kicking out to use Lucas's "Droid" name. You don't do those types of things and then pack it and move on.

It's a long term investment for both Moto and VZW. They took a huge risk and it has payed off. They are not about to cut and run. Quite the opposite. They will turn up the heat.

This is about to get real good and we will benefit..........

I agree that VZW had enough of the AT&T/Apple domination of that market segment, and went after them with this phone. I also agree that Moto will continue to market this line of phones considering the success it has had- I never said Moto was turning and running. Rather, I speculated that Moto would leave the Droid, specifically this Droid alone after this and spend it's time on something that makes more sense- that logically being the Droid 2 or whatever device they decide to replace it with.

Sure we may make up a small minority of the total audience of this device, but we and I say we including members of all android forums not just this one, are a very vocal and outspoken group. I guarantee that what is displayed in these forums does not go unnoticed by Moto- whether or not it makes a difference is anyone's guess, but what I wrote was my guess. I hope I'm wrong, and this isn't the last update we see for the current Droid but only time will tell.

One could argue that all this negatively is just misplaced enthusiasm for a product people actually do love and are hungry to be better, but if you were in charge of the Droid project and had sold well over a million phones already, how would you see it? As a product manager myself I'd be inclined to say all this negative exposure is enough, call this phone a success and continue to crank them out for a bit while I move on to finishing the next one.

I dont know if im the only one to see this or something but here VZW is telling a user "NO DELAY-- starting with select test group first to avoid problems on upcoming rollout. More to come, stay tuned." And that was about 15 hours ago http://twitter.com/vzwnetwork

Sure, you can twist things to say that there was no delay, and yes the update will come at some point.... But you may have also missed a verizon employee saying that if there was no delay why was a notice sent out to the store employees stating that there was a delay?

Of course Verizon doesn't want to outright say they messed up.

When I used to work for a big company they would always make every policy change sound as thought it was a wonderful thing for us. When in fact they were taking things away. Positive spin is the way things work for big companies.

Well, my source is Miami and he is still saying there is a delay and that any distribution of 2.1 to the masses is just a rumor. I saw the twitter thing 19 hours ago from Verizon. Doesn't appear they have updated anything since then.

I spoke with a very savvy Verizon tech rep yesterday regarding another issue and when we were finished I decided to ask him about the 2.1 update, since he also is a Droid owner. His response was pretty clear they had intended to begin the roll out the other day with a limited amount not sure the number he said but that it got delayed. He was not sure the reason or at least he did not share. He said that they were told it would happen soon (yes there is that word again) but when it began he was told it would be done in the same progression as was announced before. He anticipated this would be in the next week. He seemed knowledgeable and I had no reason to doubt what he said or that he somewhat knew what he was talking about.

We ALL get our information for the same places. Don't forget there were some that were saying we were getting "pre-update updates" that were required before the update.... :)

Some of those that people think have inside info sometimes give us "reliable" info that was written elsewhere before they announce it here.

This is a fun, great place for sharing the Droid experience... but don't forget that the only reliable information will come from your Droid when it prompts you for the update....
