THe problem I have with all the rooters pushing people to root; when some one roots and they starts having problems with their device and they do not know what to do ...........then what. Rooting is a choice that should not be done the same as installing the apps. The person NEEDS to do their research and not just jump into a ROM blindly. This will help stop the "I think I bricked my phone thread".
Is rooting hard, no; but if you are not willing to do the research and understand what is going on the do not root because no one is responsible if you have a problem getting you phone to turn on.
On this forum we are very helpful and that whats makes it #1 IMO;but not every one needs to root, especially if you going in blindly because some one says it is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

(since I can not edit). To add: Root users; we have a hacking section those that want to learn to root will go their to learn. If they are not there then they are probably not interested. So lets stop telling people they have to root.

Rooting has been pushed in our faces so many times in this forum that I doubt ANYONE doesnt know they can do it.

And yet the rooters keep talking about it.

It's obnoxious.

I think a duplicate of this topic needs to be created in the "Hacking" section of this forum so the rooters can tell their opinions without being picked on by non-rooters , and where we can pick on non-rooters :)

Well, after debunking the alleged leaked release in the General forum, I'm done for the night.

Here's to hoping for 2.1 soon.

The phone was NOT meant to run rooted. Give me a break.

A rooted phone does not RUN rooted. Root is a simple term meaning you have root access. Not 100% of the time, though. It MUST be granted permission.

A rooted droid is simply a phone with the "su" program installed. This little program can put the user (or apps if granted permission) in "root" mode, which simply means its being run as "administrator".

Just thought I'd clarify that a rooted phone does not constantly run with root privileges on (unless the user explicitly installed an app that needs root all the time [SetCPU, for example]).

there are ways to be permanant superuser but that is asking to be hacked or mess up your phone so you dont wanna do that anyway. if you wanna learn a little bit about linux, slap ubuntu on your computer or use a boot loader.

and i just caught wind from a guy i work with (whom spoke to verizon) that the update is coming out on the 25th. I dont know how credible this info is but i take his word for it. its the verizon guy that told him this that i wonder about haha. but anyways i'm crossing my fingers for the 25th : /

Not tryin to raise hype but I'm just sharing the fungus...

I'm a Debian user since 2002, thank you very much. How dare you tell someone to slap that garbage called Ubuntu onto a computer to learn Linux. Ubuntu is not a good distro to learn Linux on. Any experienced Linux user would tell you that.

And while there are ways to become permanent super user, the stock update.zip root and all the roms I have come across do NOT do this by default. The user would have to set this up manually, and only if they know how.
