why are people so worried about the 2.1 update when you have black droid's roms at your fingertips. Why why why funny to see people on the motorola facebook page cussing them out about it. But then you say why dont you root? Repsonse "what's root?" droid forums needs a facebook page if they dont have one "i have not noticed." just to let people see what droid really does.

because not everyone wants to root! Okie dokie?

ditto... although i want to do it, i just like stock look and i'm taking my pitty time. i dont like the black smoke glass theme thing.. meh.

there are ways to be permanant superuser but that is asking to be hacked or mess up your phone so you dont wanna do that anyway. if you wanna learn a little bit about linux, slap ubuntu on your computer or use a boot loader...

I'm a Debian user since 2002, thank you very much. How dare you tell someone to slap that garbage called Ubuntu onto a computer to learn Linux. Ubuntu is not a good distro to learn Linux on. Any experienced Linux user would tell you that.

And while there are ways to become permanent super user, the stock update.zip root and all the roms I have come across do NOT do this by default. The user would have to set this up manually, and only if they know how.

lol ubuntu is perfect for beginners. its good for people that are coming over from windows. how was i supposed to know you been on linux since 02? haha. i use solaris Unix and i have a Mac OSX, Windows 7, and Kubuntu. and an Ar15, .357 magnum, and 12 guage shottie

Now you're talking something totally different. Ubuntu is perfect for beginners. Its is good for people coming over from Windows. But it is NOT good for learning Linux. You want to learn Linux? Open a damn terminal and learn the commands...

Really? You're really going to try to justify your argument by turning this into a pissing contest? Please.. I'm not gonna go there...

Happy happy joy joy, happy happy joy joy ...

Enough already!

It's like Mounds and Almond Joy...

Sometimes you just have to root, sometimes you don't.

WE ALL HAVE DROID'S, THAT IS THE COMMONALITY AND COMMUNITY.

To the Rooters, of which I likely will join after the 2.1 debacle:

Cut it out. There are those who will not take that step no matter what for whatever reason they wish to share, be it afraid of VZ finding out / warrenty, afraid of bricking it, don't like smoked glass, dont want to OC, whatever.

Respect that decision, and realize that for those in that position (and they know they have the option to root) the only way they will get 2.1 is when VZ gets it act together. So yeah, there are a lot of knowledgable people miffed right now.

Now I'd love to say something to the non rooters out there, but to be brutally honest, it is the rooting community who post in just about every thread how to just go root - problem solved, you don't see anyone coming in and saying:

Hey mon, go back and run it stock and UC'd - problem solved

in the hacking threads.

So cut it out, or I will fire up the black heli and find all of you, one by one.:yeahbaby01:(my cheering section!)

I'm not about to read through ~35 pages...but I have heard from a VZW source that the updates should start rolling out monday/tuesday. Hopefully this holds true this time!

As far as the update goes....I'll get it when they send it.

I took the plunge and called Verizon as well... the rep told me it "should" be this week... Okay, fine, whatever. I didn't get a specific date and I didn't press for one. My local store told me that it is "delayed" and they had no further information. So, take it for what it's worth.

Was it a delivery failure? Is this all on Bitfone/HP? Or, was it planned this way, so the testers could evaluate it over the weekend, and give feedback to VZW/Moto, so they could evaluate it, and then announce the release date?

Inside information was leaked that probably shouldn't have been, and that set off the firestorm of anticipation, and finally let down, and then customer backlash over being "screwed" by VZW, Motorola, Google, the tides, gravity, locusts, what have you...

The bottom line is: No one knows exactly what is going on. All we have is rumor, speculation, and probably outright hallucination out there. Some Verizon people say Monday-Tuesday, others say it's delayed, and still other say it will happen this week. Internet sources hint at this taking a long time to fix, industry sources really don't point at anything, except that fact that they are saying "oops".

So, right now, all we have is the definite possibility of a firm "maybe"....

Perhaps this week will give us some clarity on the situation. I don't know whether we will get the update this week, but, I'll bet by the end of the week we have some news as to what is going on. Right now, I think some news from VZW, or Moto as to what is going on would settle some people now...

Wow. Logged on to find out what anyone heard of the 2.1 update, and found a root-nonroot war going on.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous.
I don't know why they have even come to this thread, since they don't need or want the update.

It's like going into a dog forum and telling everyone how great cats are.

Its not the root users (atleast not all of them); its those that feel the world needs to be rooted when that is not the case. Not every one needs to or want to root. Save the root talk for the hacking section. I am rooted but again who cares if they want to root they know where to go. All the root users seem to forget the "my phone wont turn on" or "My phone is bricked" threads popping up on this thread daily.
I believe the mods made it clear and I agree; save root related topics for the root section. This is about 2.1OTA.

Someone a few pages ago suggested a seperate thread in the hacks section about 2.1 - I think they were on to something but not thinking big enough. I propose "seperate but equal" droid forums, one for root opne for non-root. Of course we all know one would be superior, right???

(For those that might take offense, this post is very tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic. I have not rooted and have no problem with root users chiming in. I do find the 'I don't care I am rooted' comments annoying though. They bring nothing of value to this discussion.)

Thank you!

and a simple fact: i am pretty sure its near impossible to REALLY brick your droid. there is somethine thats called bootlooping and this happened to me but i know what im doing. Like i couldnt think of a way to actually completely brick your droid beyond repair. I dont even think there would ever be a reason to go back to verizon. and if some rooters are reading this and they think that they couldnt fix their droid and would have to take it to verizon then you should not be rooted. because it can be done and its not hard so if you dont know how then dont root.

:) No new post should be allowed to be posted on this thread with the word "ROM" and "root" in it. Lol anyone agree?

they are really annoying especially when they say "i dont wanna read 35 pages so is 2.1 coming out? i guess not ill just stick with *ENTER ROM NAME HERE* its so much better than 2.1 anyway why dont you guys just root and install that"

like guy. a lot of us have been there. I have rooted and rerooted many times and installed many roms. I know what they are like. but a lot of people root and stuff just to hold over to the OFFICIAL, and meant to be 2.1 build to come out. I would rather have fresh, clean, and perfect, over 95% flawless with SOME bugs. sorry. its true. and stock at 550mhz really is not that much of a difference from lets say 900mhz on a 2.1 rom
