At least you guys are polite about it... After spending years in automotive forums, this place is downright friendly in comparison. :laugh:
I agree with some of the others that I'm sure Verizon is making 110% sure that the 2.1 update functions properly and doesn't upset the current user base... because no matter how much we as enthusiasts understand that Google is in charge of the operating system, the vast majority of people buying Droids are going to descend on their local Verizon store with pitchforks in hand if their phone doesn't work the way it should / did.
I'm frustrated about the whole 2.1 "announcement" debacle too, but in the end I'd rather them release a properly tested product that I can rely on rather than one that makes me hate using the phone, or forces me to root to get what I want (which of course may still happen... I'm prone to caving to peer pressure. :laugh
I am upset with the lack of communication by Motorola/Verizon, not the actual update. If I knew we had to wait months for it, I probably would have followed the masses and rooted. We pay hundreds to thousands of dollars to companies that simply don't respond to our questions...As one of the few (possibly the last) people that haven't rooted their phone, I am getting very frustrated. Going from thread to thread and reading what everyone has on their phone makes the temptation that much harder to withstand. Seems as though every other thread has some form of root involved in it.
"soon" has turned into "a while." Are they close? How much of this is Verizon? ect, ect.....
A coworker has the HTC droid and has just downloaded the leaked 2.1 onto her phone...She then had to call me and brag. She said she can't wait until tomorrow to show it to me.
I've been patiently waiting for 2.1 but I can't do this much longer. "Soon" I'm going to say "To hell with Verizon and Motorola." With how much I spend on this phone per month I DESERVE AND DEMAND ANSWERS SOON!!!

Here is why the update isn't out yet. Verizon reads posts like yours and sees how much you ***** and moan, why on earth would they release an update that is not 100% bug-free, causing you to ***** and moan even more if something on your phone doesn't work?

This would be huge. I hate that they posted the update to 2.1 would come out like a month ago but never did. The update looks very impressive. Now I don't know if I should waste my time to root and load a custom rom, or just wait til the OTA update. Decisions decisions. It probably won't come out for months anyway. That 5.0 smoked glass rom is looking mighty tempting I must say.
I had to use the Motorola support chat to try to solve my headphones problems. When we were done, I threw in a little "When are we getting 2.1?" to see if I could get a wink or some funny comment.
But he stayed in character. Gave me the old "You can visit Motorola Home - Motorola USA for updates."
They've trained him well. Of course, having every word you type open to examination by your employers helps.

I'm still new to the Android game and digging my "Unrooted" 2.0.1 OS...then again I came from Windows Mobile...or windows Phone whatever they are calling that crap nowadays. I can't tell you how happy I am with the performance out of the box as I have had it in my hands non-stop since I got it last week. Do I want to root? Heck yes! When will I?? Who knows...I'll give it a month or so and then root if they haven't put out 2.1.
I know I haven't had my Droid for that long at all, but I hope people don't forget how much better out-of-box this thing is than almost every phone out there. Thanks for the info about 2.1 tho! Much appreciated! :icon_ peace:

All this time, and this is it??? We get half the features (if/when we actually get it) of the Nexus. All the talk about 5 screens and they couldn't even do that. What are the chances they even considered fixing the bluetooth voice dialing? I'll answer that.... None! Some articles I've read have been correct. The Droid is practically dead, and being far outperformed by every new phone coming out. Pathetic! I guess Motorola is still as bad as their reputation.
Not so much actually. We're likely getting live wallpapers, and their are rumors of more home screens. But even so, motorola chose to only put three screens on, you can add more if you want. 5 screens is an HTC decision.
If you wanted bluetooth dialing (not in android, by default) you should get the devour, which is the android phone that motorola really alters (hence, blur). Also, the droid has a physical keyboard and superior touchscreen.

Im over this 2.1 crap. The excitement is gone. When it comes it comes, who cares anymore!
