2.1 on the DROID - an early view

As one of the few (possibly the last) people that haven't rooted their phone, I am getting very frustrated. Going from thread to thread and reading what everyone has on their phone makes the temptation that much harder to withstand. Seems as though every other thread has some form of root involved in it.
"soon" has turned into "a while." Are they close? How much of this is Verizon? ect, ect.....
A coworker has the HTC droid and has just downloaded the leaked 2.1 onto her phone...She then had to call me and brag. She said she can't wait until tomorrow to show it to me.
I've been patiently waiting for 2.1 but I can't do this much longer. "Soon" I'm going to say "To hell with Verizon and Motorola." With how much I spend on this phone per month I DESERVE AND DEMAND ANSWERS SOON

Perspective is everything. Maybe its because I am a noob. I've been an iPhone user since i-Day, and have had the Droid for only a few days. I haven't slept in the last few days just playing with this thing and I am nowhere near wanting to root it. I am having too much fun with just the out of the box stuff!!!
I got the Easy Tether app (free one) to work, which was cool, and am now fighting with Apple and iTunes to reclaim my 10+ years of MP3s out of the BEAR TRAP called iTunes and into SongBird. That ought to take me long enough so Android 3.0 comes out...

lol for sure and when you think about it, it makes the most sense too..
- In constant communication with Verizon
- The son of Motorola
- Constant data connection directly to the update servers

I was stock for a couple months, then rooted and played for a couple months.... now as the update has to be soon... I installed the ERE53 un rooted ROM.... this way I have most of the 2.1 features that will be in the update, but I will also get the update when it comes as it's not blocked on the sbf.
The best of both worlds imo.

Here is why the update isn't out yet. Verizon reads posts like yours and sees how much you ***** and moan, why on earth would they release an update that is not 100% bug-free, causing you to ***** and moan even more if something on your phone doesn't work?
that's great but if you' re on this forum the more you read and the simpler it becomes to root it will be hard to overcome the temptation. I have beena droid owner since 12/24 and finally rooted week ago because it became too easy not to and i love it and I was extremely happy with it before and even more so now.just be smart and research and you'll know if the time is right if ever.the droid is an amazing machine out the box and without updates.Perspective is everything. so now that we know what is going to be in 2.1 for droid... do we have any idea when it will be released? considering that they said that the droid should be getting flash 10.1 during first quarter 2010 but that deadline is steadily aproaching. for the record i am running a rooted droid with a 2.1 rom but i am having problems with it on occation and am waiting patiently for the 2.1 for Droid

You are really going nutso over an update not the lack of communication! Then you're getting upset over other people rooting because you don't have the balls to do so! YOU don't pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to any company. What questions have you asked to Moto/Google/VZW that they have not answered? Like the person stated, let the update come out when its ready, but by the way you're reacting to it now, when it does come out, you're going to create another post like: "for some unknown reason it won't work on my phone and I waited 16 years for this to happen, blah, blah, blah" Hit the joint and chill!:icon_ banana:

Adobe has already said it will be Q2 2010 for Flash, not Q1. So, unfortunately, the deadline is not rapidly approaching. :-(
I've been seriously considering rooting my phone, just to get 2.1. But I know what'll happen -- I'll spend the time rooting it, then VZW will release 2.1 for the Droid the next week, so I'll have to un-root it to get the OTA update... LOL So I'm just gonna keep waiting.
I think what's getting people impatient is the rumour floating around that said Jan. 22nd was going to be the release date for 2.1. In their minds, that means we should've had 2.1 released nearly two months ago. (In my mind, too, I must admit.) But frankly, I'd rather wait another two months than get something that's going to make my Droid unstable. 2.0.1 has been completely stable for me -- in fact, my uptime was well over 2,000 hours untill an app caused a problem today and force-rebooted my phone. So I definitely don't want to lose any stability just to get 2.1 a few weeks earlier...

Okay so we are all upset for one reason or another but what is amazing me is how mean some of you are becoming. For some, ranting or venting is their way of dealing. We should not be so judgmental or rude just because someone is ranting or venting. I am totally disappointed that Motorola and Verizon have not communicated with us better regarding the updates and I am equally disappointed that we have not seen the 2.1 update but I am not going to degrade or slam anyone on this forum for simply venting and expressing an opinion. I just find some of these comments towards others to be very rude.
