I was simply looking for answers from anyone who might give one. Verizon wasn't helping and acting like it wasn't in their control so I asked around.
I know it might not be worth much but it is what they said and I am just sharing what I found.

I thought rooting your phone voided the warranty.Appreciate the effort and you sharing with us, just sayin' tired of the no answers to the question from either HTC or VZW. Even if the INC gets this update it is the end of the road for this phone. This is the main reason I don't think a lot of effort is going into this upgrade. Again this is just my opinion and conjecture. All I know is I probably won't take the update anyway because I like being rooted and having all the options that go with it. I've been running GB 2.3.4 for months now and after going back to stock 2.2 OS (received a new INC refurbished for a warranty issue) I couldn't believe how different the phone is rooted. It's really a much better experience for me. I will be upgrading soon (waiting for the Google Nexus Prime) so for now I am happy running the aftermarket roms until my upgrade. Good luck to all waiting for this update, hope it comes soon for you all.....
If that matters to you then I guess you won't be rooting yours.....again rooting isn't for everyone.

Exactly, the phone had a hardware issue with the screen. You can unroot before sending it in.
i called vzw last week.the tech toldme that i should be getting the update soon..................
The longer it takes the update to get to my phone and the more comments I read, I'm not convinced that I even want it when it gets here. I'm not waiting for any specific problem solutions, and everything I have now works really well. I've seen at least one comment that power usage and battery life isn't really improved much with the update. Should I go with my gut feel of "If it ain't broke don't fix it" or should I really want the update?

I don't see why anyone wouldn't want the update.
