2.3 Update

Anyways ya is flashing roms for gingerbread safe

If you do it right then it is. There's always the chance of bricking your phone when you root it. However, if your phone is already rooted, then you should be ok to flash a rom, just make sure that you follow the directions very VERY carefully.

Good luck :D

I just flashed a ROM two nights ago, CM7 based on GB.

Just root your phone and download ROM Manager, it's the safest way imo. No complicated steps or anything, and ROM Manager even makes a backup for you (if you choose to, which I HIGHLY recommend).

When flashing a new ROM or restoring an old one, the phone may seem stuck on the red eye, but let it do its thing, it'll go, which could take up to 5-7min

Followed each step, but it wouldn't take the update, and now everything on my phone reset , I guess it's partly my fault since I forgot to make a backup :icon_rolleyes:.

Oh well, I'll never forget to to make a backup again.

And to anybody who wants to try this, I would suggest just rooting, or waiting for them VZW to just put the update OTA again.

Have fun everybody!

Oh, and Dezymond, I just realized you have about 10x more posts then me.... I shall catch you soon... haha

That's odd, it shouldn't have reset anything. Did it ever get past "No image file" or whatever warning it was for you? That's where I got stuck.

As for catching up to me in terms of posts, you got quite a ways to go my friend. Been on this forum since week 1 or 2 of the OG Droid release:icon_ banana:

That's as far as I made it as well. And then it froze. So I had to pull the battery, and then everything was gone, and my phone was at factory settings. Oh well. I pretty much have everything back. I had a backup about 2 weeks ago, so i'm not missing much.

and it may take me a while, but I'll catch you :)

hmm that's weird...mine never froze and I tried it 3 times. Hopefully GB starts OTA to more phones

I didn't even realize how many posts I had before you brought it up, think i'm on here too much

I'm on for a while, then I disappear for a week or so. And that keeps my post limit down.

Gee, I wish I had the money to buy a new phone whenever I wanted to...or even when my two years is up... :-P

I got the 2.3.4 update middle of last month. Everything seemed to be fine. Quick startup, battery life maybe slightly better, better breakdown of battery use for sure. However, overall I was pretty underwhelmed by the update, seems HTC insists on putting their crap all over everything which results in most the cool new features not showing up. I was still getting memory low notifications and phone just seemed bogged down in general, so I decided to do a wipe.

Long story short I wiped my phone and then noticed it could no longer receive text messages. After talking to support I got moved to the network repair people, who eventually told me my phone would have to be replaced as it was an issue with the update that they couldn't fix. (at least not without physical access to the phone) They sent me a replacement incredible (which at one point they had said it would be an incredible 2 so I was a bit bummed) Hopefully they don't try to pull crap about it being water damaged or otherwise. I took pics of the water damage strips showing my phone's ID number, not that it will probably help.

I guess what I'm trying to say is I wouldn't be too worried about the update. It really doesn't change a whole heck of a lot. In fact I could only see a few differences between it and my wife's phone which never got the update.

Yeah I'm in the same boat. The update has some bugs but even if those get fixed, the end result is not much different from 2.2. The one thing I learned from this update is that I want to root and rom, but now I can't as this build has no root yet! = : [

I hate when the conversation dies... Ummm... What kind of phone should I get when my upgrade becomes available in November?

I just activated my sister's old Incredible 1 to replace my OGDroid, and I haven't gotten Gingerbread pushed to my phone yet. Judging by some of the comments, do I even want it or will it hurt my phone? Also should I expect it to push eventually? Should I manual install? If so how if I am on a mac?
