ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

I've scoured this thread, and I've got one question.

Other than getting it sooner, is there any advantage to manually updating to 2.2 using the file on the OP as opposed to waiting for the OTA? If the end result is exactly the same, I'll probably just wait for the OTA - I'm lazy :).

If by manually updating though I get a "cleaner" install that will run better, I'll do it. dancedroid

Thanks!

It will simply be getting it sooner. If anything, you will stand to get a cleaner install waiting for the actual OTA as that will be the latest version available and set to install exactly as Verizon had intended.

sdlenhert, just go ahead and install the newer over the older 2.2. Works fine and cleared up all my issues with last weeks 2.2

Thanks! I'll give it a shot.

Well, I tried that and the installed failed. I downloaded the update to the root of the sd card and renamed it to UPDATE.ZIP, but when it went through the update it said that the file did not exist.

When you renamed it, did you change the name to update or update.zip. If you typed update.zip, the computer is actually seeing update.zip.zip. Maybe that can help.

Thanks jkhonea! That worked!

Excellent. That's a common problem and I did the same thing numerous times before figuring it out. Trust me, I slapped myself in the head several times for doing it.

Some Observations about the 78mb 2.2 manual unrooted update:
FYI, I still use ADW Launcher as I did with the 2.1 OTA. I also cleared my browser cache prior to doing the update

1.) Installed as advertised after being advised to power up in recovery mode and holding the volume & camera button after powering up holding the 'x'
2.) Camera icon changed to a generic white/green icon... added it back in from the apps menu, works fine
3.) Goes into "silent mode" just fine (heard earlier comment that did not work)
4.) Pandora sounds great (re: earlier post)
5.) I did not run quadrant prior to upgrade, but it scores 800 after update
6.) Navigator works fine... used it running and errand on the way home tonight
7.) My music player Tune-Wiki still works great
8.) I had about 7 application update show up shortly after reboot. Not sure if updating to 2.2 forces any of that
9.) My Google Calendar icon disappeared and was replaced by the standard calendar icon. 86'd it, replaced with the Google calendar works fine
10.) Asked me to re-enter my password for the Facebook app
11.) Generally speaking, my Droid seems to be more responsive, a bit quicker.

With that said, I will continue to watch close over the next couple of days to other posts to compare notes with other. Right now, I am a happy & still love my Droid!

Okay moving right along. I just jumped in with both feet and went for it. I had a 2.1 Droid rooted with Easy Root and figured out how to install Titanium backup and did a full backup before doing this just in case. After installing the large update file. The phone is as it was with a few minor adjustments I had to make to my theme. I just had to move some icons around a bit. The update will un-root the phone (or at least it did mine) but all the applications were there. I just had to re-root the phone. Now those of you running setCPU there is some options I need to know which one would be the best. I moved the slider to 800 on MAX and left bottom at 250 MIN. but should the "scaling" option be left at on (ondemand), (userspace), or (performance) ? also I checked the box "set on Boot" is that correct ?

The settings you've made for SetCPU are pretty standard. If your Droid doesn't eat overheat, batteries or start boot-looping you could probably leave it that way. 800MHz is a pretty safe speed for most Droids.

You may want to get a custom kernel for Wireless Tether, faster overclocking and other reasons... If you do overclock faster than 800MHz, that's when you really need to pay attention to SetCPU.

P.S. On Demand is good, and set at boot is also good.

If we had the edit button, this could have all been one post... :icon_ banana:

I understand...thanks for the moral support. I have read every page of this thread. Lot of info. to absorb and just decided several hours ago I was going to use the update file. I've gone from no knowledge of the meat and potatoes of the droid to rooting it, installing Titanium backup, backup everything, install the update, overclock the CPU, eeehhh what else LOL all in one evening. After all like I said earlier today the droid is just a computer you can talk on so it wasn't really that nail biting to me other than just getting over the butterflies to push the enter button in recovery!

You're doing well, as are many many who have read this thread and also gone through the process. And you're going to find it gets better and better. The configuration possiblities of a rooted droid are truely amazing, no less than those possiblities on a fully blown Ubuntu PC, and, as you have pointed out, you can also talk to people with it.

Much thanks for assistance needs to go to the admins, moderators and to furbearingmammal who has been going to amazingly great lengths to help out here.

I've spoken up earlier, with honest respect, about my skepticism regarding this thread... Whether I was right or wrong, the thing that has been saving this thread -- over and over and over again -- is all the effort these people have been putting into it to keep everyone who is trying to use this build going on the right track. They deserve a huge lot of credit. Verizon, Moto and Google should look down from their lofty posts and thank these guys and others who helped define this build, for helping to keep Froyo in a good light when they've been having trouble keeping the OTA straight.
