ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

Also make sure you click Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB Debugging

Tried both, but no luck. Not sure where the "Problems" button is, but the BusyBox installer got me the latest version (1.18.0). So far, this is the only glitch I've run into since moving to 2.2, and it may not even be due to that.

My bad. I think that was part of EasyRoot and not SetCPU. Installed too much the last few days. So when you reboot you go back to the 600 mhZ default and have to start up SetCPU to get to the 800?

Before I put the widget in, it was going back to 600, plus the little icon in the notification bar wasn't there.

I do have a question - How do you check CPU temp, or can you? Most references are for battery temp.

Froyo Update

I was wondering if I should force froyo on my droid or wait for update? Phone is not rooted. What should I do?

Thread merged.

Yeah, do what you want to do. Just don't make a thread for each froyo issue, we have plenty of them. ;)

What im really trying to ask is there any down side to forcing the update manually. Im really getting impatient.

No, they are the same update. What happens is someone gets the update OTA, then pulls the file and makes a copy before they update and then puts it on the internet. Exact same thing.

Steps to do the update

I want to do the "clean install" because I am getting repeated force closes on email (beginning about 5 days ago) and I hope that a clean install (versus a more incremental one) will fix the issue. I've tried some of the suggested fixes for that in other threads to no avail.

Some of the instructions for the update have referred to things I hadn't known how to do (e.g. "boot into recovery mode") so I've been off and running trying to find them. I've assembled what I've found below.

So, for an unrooted phone with 2.1 update 1, as I have, on the plain Droid, I understand the steps to be:

1. Download the file to my computer and rename it to update.zip.
2. Connect to computer via USB cable and MOUNT the SD card (this option is visible if you swipe down the USB icon on the notifications bar).
3. Copy the file to the root directory of the SD card (top directory sdcard/), making sure there are no other "update.zip" files there already.
4. UNMOUNT the SD card.
[I'm aware that one can also do the download by phone only by navigating to the appropriate site and download the update, and then moving it from downloads (using one of the file managers) to rename the file to update.zip and move it to the root directory of the SD card. Then the rest of the steps would be the same.]
5. Power down the phone.
6. Boot into recovery by pressing and holding down the x key on the physical keyboard while holding down the Power key.
7) When you get the yellow triangle hit volume up and camera buttons at the same time [???]
8) use the d-pad to navigate to "apply update.zip" and choose it [???].
9) alphawave7's instructions did not specify steps 7 and 8, but said to
"Select the updat.zip file and allow the phone to apply the update" after booting into recovery mode. It's not clear to me how to do that, if there's a yellow triangle on the screen. The poster also said that the initial boot of the FroYo update takes awhile, so don't freak out.

alphawave7's post was dated 8/3. This morning's post by cereal killer had a link to what I assume is the most up-to-date link.

Would someone please flag any errors in the steps listed and clarify the uncertainty around steps 7-8?

I want to do this update soon, and I don't want to screw it up!

Thanks in advance.

Here is a quick step by step from one newbie to the rest. Its a copy paste of multiple posts.

1. Root phone using any of the root methods. (I used the pay Easy Root App. $1 is totally worth it.)
2. Download the updated version file. (Pick the one you want. I used the Op's 2.2)
3. Rename file to update.zip
4. Download the file to the sd card
5. Restart the phone by pressing power and x at same time.
6. After you get the yellow triangle, hit the volume up and camera button at the same time
7. Use the d-pad to navigate to the “apply: update.zip” option, and choose the file you just dragged onto your microSD card.
8. When done, choose Reboot system.
9 Verify everything is working.
10. Reroot, if you choose. (I did.)
(Optional) Do a battery pull for good measure.

leslieho99,
That sounds good but too much information LOL

This is the one I used... DON'T WORRY ABOUT STEP ONE ...""phone needs not to be rooted""...and make sure you don't have the file named update.zip.zip

I have custom themes on my X do I need to remove them. I renamed it and moved the file to my sd/card. But it would not load the update.zip please advise. Thanks

I didn't see where this was addressed after wading through all 80 pages (Lots of info to remember), so I'm going to ask:

According to Page 1 :
"4) If you have either release on your Droid, you will not get alerted by Verizon to do an OTA install. You'll already have it, unless an even newer one is eventually released (which noone knows at this point will occur)."

If we have either release but are rooted, are we going to get the alert to do the OTA install? If so, can we unroot and then let it try to install, which it should abort because it finds 2.2 already there? I thought someone said it would, but I'm just checking.

Jrummy on page 6 has a copy of the same FRG01 that went out OTA for rooters. If you have that installed you shouldn't get the notice. If not you probably will get the notice but just say yes and SPRecovery or Clockwork will block the install.

Why would you unroot, just take the one Jrummy has.
