can any1 help?
Delete the .zip so you have an update.zip instead of an update.zip.zip. That's the most likely solution.

Ah. You can't root by installing JRummy's ROM. You'll have to either root now and install it or install a stock 2.2 ROM and root that.

is there an update for unrooted phones? i did as you said and rooted using easyroot....when i booted to do install..the d-pad wouldn't let me select the update:icon_eek:....it just rebooted phone...gonna try again (3rd time)...

i have easyroot installed...but haven't run it. so it seems i should run that first then?

You can't flash that version with the stock recovery that's why you get the verification failed error it's looking for a signed update, I can't comment on using the easyroot app I have never used it, but you will need SPrecovery or Clockwork recovery if you want to flash jrummy's rooted 2.2.

now it says as below....

--install from sd card...
finding update package...
opening update package...
verifying update package...
e: failed to verify whole-file signature
e:signature verification failed
installation aborted

This is the set of files you can use.

http://www.mediafire.com/file/54jg83...-ota-45394.zip

Source: Android Forums/JohnGalt/Peter Alfonso

I downloaded the file and followed the instructions and get the following error:

E:signature verification failed.

Thought i got a bad download so tried again (3 times) same result.

Is there another source for this file?
Look in the OP. If that link's down, try this one:
http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/OEM/9046f5a3ec09.signed-voles-ota-45394.zip
If that one will NOT work, no matter what you do, try this one.

now i guess i can root eh?:)

Congrats. If you're new to rooting and have questions, maybe the thread in my signature will answer some of those questions. New or not, enjoy and play safe.

Remember, it's all fun and games till someone gets a Droid in the eye.

HE'S A MAAAADDD MAAAAAAAAAANNN LMFAO!!! I'm in deep now. It really does feel like I have a new phone. Just finished bringing the CPU up to 1ghz! and have a 1.1 and 1.25 waiting in the wings but for now this thing is like lightning compared to what I was used to. That just goes to show how throttled back Motorola had the chip in the original Droid. Took this quote right off of the manufactures website:

"The ARM Cortex™-A8 processor is based on the ARMv7 architecture and has the ability to scale in speed from 600MHz to greater than 1GHz. The Cortex-A8 processor can meet the requirements for power-optimized mobile devices needing operation in less than 300mW; and performance-optimized consumer applications requiring 2000 Dhrystone MIPS."

I did make me a battery profile in case it started heating up it would cut back some but man what a difference. I will search for some good all around profiles next to keep things under control. Now it is time to relax, drink some cold ones and donate some money to these folks that I have used their programs to accomplish all of this. If it weren't for people writing and designing this stuff and with the help of the gentleman on this site I could have never got this far. I does take allot of reading and studying but if a ol country boy like me can do it anybody can! dancedroid

Droid 1 now running 2.2 FroYo from the install at the begining of thread, FlashPlayer 10.1 Beta drawing pretty pictures, EasyRoot, Titanium Backup, Astro, BusyBox, WirelessTether for Rooted phones, SetCPU, ROM Manager, all Rockin' on at 1Ghz...PEACE and good luck!

Update on how it went: I was running the 2.2 update from over a week ago, and rooted using EasyRoot. Had SetCPU running, and a couple other small apps for root-only users just because, but no ROMs or backups. I went ahead and updated Jrummy's file from Page 6, and the install went without a hitch. Had to re-root, reboot, then restart SetCPU.

The only issue I ran into was a couple of large apps I had moved to the SD card to save internal memory; their icons disappeared from the list of apps, and the on-screen icons changed to generic Droid icons of some sort, but they ran just fine. I re-installed them using "App Monster", a useful tool from the Market, and they reappeared in the app list. I deleted the generic icons and replaced with the new ones, and all is good again.

Seems someone else had a similar issue; it makes sense because I had a previous setup referencing files on a separate drive, then did a rewrite, so some of the references didn't get copied. No big deal, and no other problems.

Thanks everyone for your help; I'll be digging through other forums as I get deeper into this, as I get braver. :icon_eek:
