ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

I find it amazing that if you ask a question on rooting you get an instant answer, if not...

This forum has gone to the rooters.

This is true. Go to Motorola forums for questions beyond rooting.
If it's 100% rooters how come there are so many people asking for and receiving help -- like this file, designed for non-rooters and people who want to give up root with a simple flash?

SAL; this is unknown but if Peter Alphonso (of Bugless Beast fame) gives this file a clean bill of health, it's safe. If the file is signed so the stock recovery image can install it it's official.

richhowe; yes.

Everyone having issues with the install staying at 2.1 stock -- make absolutely sure you have the file named update.zip and not update.zip.zip and make sure you don't have an old update.zip kicking around on the SD card. It's possible when you copied the file to your SD card it got renamed update(2).zip during the transfer under windows.

Finally, I repeat, unless you're having issues with an install from last week's OTA update.zip you have no reason to download and install this update other than curiosity. It's the same stuff, just packaged differently.

If you have the original OTA update and haven't installed it yet, do this one instead. Because it flashes the entire ROM instead of just patching the old one it's a cleaner install. As such the chance of having issues with it are much reduced -- or simply wait for the push to your phone.

You guys are amazing! Did you read the original post? CK was merely reporting what was posted elsewhere. All these questions being directed at the op is just silly. I'm sure not trying to belittle CK's knowledge, but he never put himself forward as the expert on this file, it's use, it's contents, it's intent, etc. He was reporting!!

Not sure all those questions were just directed at the poster of the OP, rather than referencing the content of the OP. I think folks with questions would be happy for answers from anyone with any insight from anywhere. :)

great, useful post! thanks...:)

Why does simply rooting allow for the update.zip to work when it otherwise would not?

Here's an install solution for those, like me, who manually had already installed last week's FRG01B update/zip:

Simply install EASY ROOT, available for 0.99 from Unstable Apps - Mobile apps for a mobile world

Then run EASY ROOT to ROOT your system and do nothing else. Note, I was previously not rooted, and I had installed NONE of the rooted ROMs. This all takes a couple of minutes.

Now the NEW update.zip from this thread will install right over it, with NO Problem!

Results? So far this "new" FRG01B seems smoother.

I have the same question, but it works. Plus, since I can try a "clean" install now, to see if my keyboard issue is hardware or software, I went for it. Works exactly like those instructions say. I even bought Easy Root. I think I'm started down the path to rooting... lol

ok.. saw this post and noticed it was way too time consuming for people who just want a rooted stock phone. Here is an update.zip that will give you root and symlinked busybox.

All I did was change some things in the updater-script that took just a couple minutes (you can install if already on any previous leak, symlinks busybox), add su binary and superuser.apk, busybox, and removed recovery image.

That's it.. hope this makes someone's life a little easier. Just install in sprecovery or clockwork.

Download it here

Also, cvpcs wrote a great little post on all this here

jrummy - so this is basically a "pure" rooted stock 2.2 then? i.e. the same as when we would push su/superuser.apk and manually install busybox on an already existing 2.1 OS, right?

Thank you Sal ... My question was directed at anyone that had successfully installed this file ... That's all ... People are so ...............

I would like to know this as well.

correct...it's a "virgin" rooted version of the file posted in the OP.

Yes, several.

One more question. Is it necessary to wide data - OR - will this wipe data? I need to know whether to prepare my wife for reloading all of her apps and homescreens.

As long as you have Sync turned on your apps will (mostly) download automatically after the upgrade if they get wiped. Setting up the home screens is up to you, though. :)

Droid X

Okay I'm new here and trying to catch up. I am a recent driod convert. I have been using windows mobile for more than 8 years. I have flashed literally hundreds of ROMS for all these devices the last of which being the TP2. I am reading as much as I can because I HATE being a noob. I have rooted my phone and am sure I understand all that is involved with this thread other than if these files are for driod only or if I can use them on the droidX ?

Thanks for the help and the great board. I look forward to catching up to speed and hopefully helping the community.

I would imagine there are still issues with certain apps not showing up if going from 2.1 to 2.2, since this is stock 2.2 and not a 2.2 ROM with a market fix applied. Just FYI
