ALERT! 2.2 FroYo Circus continues...FRG01B is Official get it here.

Here's an install solution for those, like me, who manually had already installed last week's FRG01B update/zip:

Simply install EASY ROOT, available for 0.99 from Unstable Apps - Mobile apps for a mobile world

Then run EASY ROOT to ROOT your system and do nothing else. Note, I was previously not rooted, and I had installed NONE of the rooted ROMs. This all takes a couple of minutes.

Now the NEW update.zip from this thread will install right over it, with NO Problem!

Results? So far this "new" FRG01B seems smoother.

please forgive these questions as they will sound redundant:

1. this "easy root" app mentioned above is listed as free in the marketplace....not $0.99.....so is it the same???

2. so installing this "easy root" app from the marketplace will in fact root my phone correct???

3. once this is done, how do i go about getting the most recent version of froyo from yesterday???

Sorry I wasn't trying to be picky. I just really couldn't figure out exactly what that sentence was trying to say.

No need to apologize! I agree with you 100%! I felt the same way and had to re-read the sentence a few times myself.

Cheers

I'm having trouble following, I have the leaked unrooted update.zip from last week, do I want to get this update? what do I need to do for this update? I want to stay unrooted

No harm no foul. Your point was valid, and I realize my first post sounded a little angry. :) Several have averred that the sentence was a hard read. Hopefully that'll be changed so there are fewer questions.

App in the market is a compatibility test app that will tell you if the actual app can root your Droid (it can) and once it's installed it'll take you to the website where you can buy it since it got yanked from the market.

If you want FRG01A, merely download the file from the OP, push it to the root of your SD card, and reboot into recovery to install it. No root required.

1) The Easy Root app mentioned in this thread is NOT free in the market. Look at that Market item closely... it's the Easy Root Compatibility Test application. It's a free app that, once downloaded and installed on your phone, it will test your phone and inform you if your phone is supported by the (paid) Easy Root app. The Easy Root Compatibility Test app will then direct you to the area to buy and download the full Easy Root app.

2) Yes and no... installing the Easy Root Compatibility Test app from the Marketplace will NOT root your phone, but it will direct you to an area to buy Easy Root to root your phone, as long as your phone is supported.

3) Check out the links in the first post of this thread!

so, should I uninstall the update.zip i got for FR01B(nonroot)? somebody said the OTA is cleaner?
It's a cleaner install. If you're not having any issues you don't need to uninstall unless you're curious if this will run better.
alright, how do I uninstall? will I be rooted? is there any chance of this hurting my phone?
thanks! I feel like a real noob...
This is a virgin file, so no root for you. Please, if you want to root after installing this, buy your Droid dinner and take it to a movie first. :)

To uninstall you'll need to use RSDLite to flash a stock 2.0, 2.0.1, or 2.1 SBF file onto your phone. Then you just use the file from the OP and install as normal.

ummm--I feel a little overwhelmed, could you guide me through with google talk or something? if you can, send me a PM, I'll send you my email, and we can start or something--I just don't want to screw up my phone, this part looks a bit more complicated than installing the update.zip

My Droid is nonrooted and I have the stock 2.1. Should I download the zip file in the this thread or the zip file in this thread http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/66044-official-froyo-rollout-thread.html
I just want to be sure that I do not install the incorrect file. Also, if this makes a difference, I want to remain nonrooted. Thank you in advance!

I believe both will work, but the one from this thread is a complete install. The file from the other thread has patches for what you had previously.

As mentioned in other posts here, it's like upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7. While there might be an upgrade disk for that, it would be better to get Windows 7 and start from scratch.

Just to make sure; I am also unrooted and have 2.1 OTA installed. If I take the file from this thread, change it to "update.zip", put it in my sd card's root, this will install? I will not need to root for this?

Correct. Just confirmed it on my brother's phone.
