Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

I am really looking forward to the update. Can't wait to see the live wallpapers, but the one I am really looking forward to is the speech to text, pinch-zoom, not so much, but it will be a nice addition.

Yeah, I know, I should just download the linked file, but I am going to wait. I have horrible luck with electronics sometimes. I stopped into Verizon today to look at new BT headsets (birthday is coming up in a few weeks) and I was talking with another droid owner, we talked update, and what not, and he remarks that he had read that the update was available online.... A store employee over heard that, and told us if we "download from the community" and our phone has a problem, we will void the warranty, and well, I am not going to take risk, no matter how small. I don't doubt that it is the original OTA file, and it does pull from Google's servers, but, since I don't have the money to replace at this point, I figure I am better off waiting.

I too am going to wait. I've had the temptation to root as well, but am also holding off. I've had the Droid since Feb, and love it. I came from 5 years of Windows mobile devices, the last one being the Omnia. On the Omnia I even did the hack upgrade to windows mobile 6.5, but was still not happy with it.

Loving the droid!!! :-D

I'm right there with you. I'm all stock and not rooted; I'm waiting it out for the update.

They cannot prove if it was OTA or manually done.

Not taking the chance, when you live on as little as I do, every dollar makes a difference, and this device was a Christmas gift from my oldest son, so, I will wait.

I wasn't going to mention it, but I just saw him on this thread, so I must. The Windows Mobile 6.5 I was running came from Adryalyne, back in his Windows mobile days.

I'n glad to see him with the Drioid! What an asset to this fourm.

Thanks for all your hard work Adrynalyne!!!

Not to toot the same horn over and over, but you guys know that manuel update isn't rooting right. It is the SAME EXACT file you would be getting through the OTA update and is the easiest install I've ever done...

Whatever the reason, if you don't want to push or install the update then don't do it. Its your phone. But it is the same update no matter how you receive it.

I get no lag with the water wallpaper.

cool that one seems fine. but the red lines one is a bit laggy especially if apps pile up.

I know a lot have asked this but never saw a response, if u manually update can u get an ota next time or no actual effect?

Depends on the verizon store.. I was in 2 weeks ago for another reason, started talking 2.1 to the guy working the counter and he told me "why wait" said hacks are out now... then he showed me his rooted droid

Oh, I know it's not rooting, and that it's the same file and all... I just choose to wait.
