Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Yeah it probably takes a while for all 200,000 updates to be pushed.

I'm not expecting it to pop up just as the clock hit 11pm CST, they probably go out in waves so as not to overwhelm the servers and ensure integrity of the file coming down. Probably so many per hour. Chances are small of my getting it tonight but its' fine. It will happen.

you know if you want it now there is a way to force it right?

I stopped back to see what's going on, and I'm honestly surprised to see guys on this board that are still waiting for the update.

I take it these guys don't want it now? Or waiting for the fun of an update coming to the phone on it's own?

Yeah id rather wait for it than download it from some link. Nobody knows if that link stops future updates or not and a few other concerns were mentioned. I rather be safe than sorry

Have you heard the story on how that link was obtained?

An OTA update was offered to one of the initial receivers, the logcat was run while it was updating and it was found to be downloading...from that link.

So its pretty safe imo.

The link was direct from Google, and the exact update everyone will be getting. But it's fun getting an update ota and all the excitement waiting I guess. But there is nothing that can be said to calm fears of the unknown and that which you don't understand. Nothing wrong with waiting for those that don't want or need it now.

I downloaded it direct from Google and installed it. It is running nice and you guys will like it. Hope you get it tonight!

I was just about to go to bed, still no notification about 2.1, but, I went to settings, about phone and checked for updates and there it was! I am downloading it now. You might want to check everybody. I got no notice, but, it was there.

I forced the update but i have a question lets say another update comes out soon. Well they send me an update like everyone else or will i have to do a manual update again?

If a newer update comes, you are eligible for OTA.
