Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

Being terrified that I would kill my phone I couldn't bring myself to force the update...until last night. I followed the instructions and it worked beautifully. I have never attempted anything like that before. It worked so well I might have to try my hand at rooting... whenever 2.1 is rooted that is.:)

Got mine this morning. Battery usage is better. Things that will break, just add them in again to the home page are gallery and the picture frame widget.

More than likely due to the new interface for the gallery. If you have a large amount of pics, it will take a bit to get the thumbnails established but afterwards, it is pretty fast.

Default gallery viewer and maps use mutli-touch. Yahoo mail syncs wonderfully. I may try the default browser but I have become accustomed to Dolphin. Now on to try the live wallpaper

Hey Mods,

You guys have been great but why not take out the ban stick - I think many of us are tired of hearing "why did I wait this stinks rooting was way better".

It's bad enough that ever other post shows disappointment that there are three screens and no 3d app drawer - if people spent 10 minutes on this forum they would have knows that... umm... about 500 times.

Well, it's kind of like this at least in my mind. The size of the thread is huge. Most of the people who do it don't know any better even though we've posted a thousand times "no rooting talk." Hitting somebody with a ban stick for a first time violation is a bit hard.

Now if I see someone do it repeatedly after I warn him then that's a different story. That's an automatic 7 day vacation. 30 if they are really obnoxious. It's a judgement call. That's how I feel about it. How the other mods feel I don't know but we are doing the best we can. It's been a pretty rough week since 2.1 and trust me, the stick does get swung when necessary.

Watching you tattle to a mod about people who don't read through 200 pages daily is just as annoying, I assure you.

There are a ton of people on here and a ton of posts. I've read through several pages over several days; I never saw anything about not being allowed to say 'rooting'. I wanted to share that the manual update worked but that it isn't really worth people waiting eagerly by their beds at midnight hoping their phone is graced with it. If that pesters you so much, you have my apologies.

Are you finding that the yahoo mail is adding extra email copies in your sent file and are you getting notifications for new emails? A few 2.1. updaters have reported that these problems still exist.

Quick question, I'd like to do a factory reset when I get the update and want the least amount of hassle when restoring everything. Is the factory reset that everyone is doing for 2.1 referring to a hard reset or the one you do via settings? I know contacts and stuff having to do with my gmail account will remain intact and that I should pull the flash memory to preserve photos etc.

-I know you can backup apps via Astro, does it backup to the sd card?
-anything else I'm forgetting that I should do?

evo, you can forget about doing a factory reset. It's not necessary unless you are having issues. But if you feel you must you don't need to do a hard factory reset. Just go to settings/privacy/factory data reset.

I didn't do one and my Droid is just fine.

I wasn't going to post until I got the update ota. Well it came in this morning. My wife also got the message, but she has not upgraded yet. She is waiting for me to come home. I did manage to upgrade mine at work and it went smooth. Helix still works great with 2.1. The touch screen feels snappier with the update. Looking forward playing more with it on my weekend.
