Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

yo whassup everyone?
Ok, yesterday i heard about the update being rolled out. Now what is the latest? I take it that people are getting the update, then? So it was legit? Is the OTA still being active cause i have not seen one yet. Update me please.

Update is alive and well. Go to the news section and you can discuss it there. There is another thread in the general forums discussion that discusses how to install.

Whoops, sorry about that, I'm traveling to so many different forums I forgot which one I'm in. You're in the right place!!

Nice, nice. Thanks, Hook. Good looking out as always. And thanks to the others who responded. I will take a look at that thread an see what i can do. So the OTA is still goin, then. But the other thread you guys were talking about is the MANUAL install, correct?

Hey everyone... does anyone know if this is legit?? is this the original version or some second hand deal?

Force an Android 2.1 OTA update for Motorola Droid |

I just downloaded the Zip and wanted to know if anyone else has tried this before I do it... last thing i want is a paperweight droid...

I think this thread is full of people who've already done it ;)

However, I have. I'll be honest, the first one I did, I ended up with something weird. The phone was unresponsive at best, and force closing at worst. That was with the file I pulled from androidcentral (not sure where it was hosted, and don't believe it was different than what was here).

Decided to redo the update, pulled the update.zip file from the links on this site, went through the process, and all seems to be working with no problems so far.

There are others, who've posted no problems, so please don't let me scare you.

It's legit. I just did it.

Google Earth is AMAZING - especially with multi-touch. This is an excellent update. Glad I couldn't wait for the OTA! :icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

So do we put all the files and folders that are downloaded onto the sd card to push the update?

META-INF - folder
recovery - folder
patch - folder
system - folder
bp.img
rdl.bin
mbm_consumer.bin

Open astro or other file manager, be at /sdcard

Place update.zip file there.

Done.

Still trying to figure out where to set up speech to text, have not found it yet

Open up something that requires text input (twitter, messaging, buzz, etc), bring up the virt. keyboard. There, instead of the previous comma key, you'll see a little microphone. That's your speech -> text :)

Thanks for the info! I had thick thumbs installed and it does not support the speech to text. It still had the comma key there.

Went to bed last night, with this forum on page 69..... Woke up to find this thing on page 116, or something. 50 pages over night? Sheesh...

Anyway, good to see that the update has come through and it apparently being passed around.. I'll wait for the OTA update. With 2,000,000 Droids to update at 200,000 per day, it's going to take a few days, but, I have waited this long, what's another week?

Forgot where I saw the numbers now, but 1.5 million droids were sold in Q4, let's assume the same in Q1, that's 3 million... 200,000 per day is 5 days per million, you could be waiting a few weeks :)

Since this is the same exact update you'd get OTA, I had no problem jumping the gun and doing it...
