Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

For those who wish to wait for the OTA.... You can expect the update sometime in the next 10 days. With just over 2 million Droids out there, at 200,000 per day, it is going to take about 10 days to update all of them. Actually that will be 10 days from 4/1. Everyone should be updated by the 11th.

so you can't do it right from the phone?

I've downloaded it and can see it in astro. I just have to move it from the download file to the root.

Is this possible without using a computer?

Yes, just edit, copy in astro, then maneuver to /sdcard, edit paste.

Ima gonna wait. Knowing me something would go wrong with the update.zip method SOMEWHERE and then verizon would tell me to get stuffed. I'll wait and if THEIR update kills it then they can deal with it. I've used the phone with 2.0.1 since I got it in December, isn't going to kill me to wait this much longer

So I am rooted and the OTA update keeps popping up on my phone telling me to install. Is there anyway I can stop the pop up? the only thing I can do is hit "install later" but then it comes back in like 5 minutes. So what can I do? It's annoying
When you receive the pop up-Press “Install Now.”
1. The update will then download in the background.
2. The following message will then appear:
"This software includes yada yada."
-You may press the home button but DO NOT PRESS “Restart & Install!”
4. Plug your phone into your computer and mount your SD card. You should now be able to browse the contents of your SD card.
5. On the root of your SD card, you will see a file called “update.zip”. Remove that file to somewhere on your computer like the desktop. It should be about 15MB in size.
That should take care of it.

Just spitballing here...

I created a new folder in Astro root (/sdcard). I copy and pasted the different files from the download into that file (which I named "update"). Then I restarted.

Nothing. Still @ 2.01.

Has anyone actually received the OTA update directly as opposed to downloading it?
I'm going to wait because I only wanted the update for more homescreens and that failed, so I don't really care about this update. I'm waiting for update 2 or 3, whichever gives me more homescreens.

QUESTION!!! When you add a new folder to a home screen, can't you rename the folder???? i want to put all my game icons in a folder called "games"... can i do this or do i have to live with the name of the folder being "folder"???

I thought the same thing but I updated anyway. I figured if anything gets broken, someone here will help fix it.
