Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

hi all, first post here, i've had my :motdroidhoriz: for about a week and love it to death. i got to work and noticed i had an update notification, hooray! i tried to update, and got some sort of error from the android market... and now it appears i can't update... sorry for the noob quality of my post, anyone else have this happen to them? I was so close!!! Gah!

thanks for all the great posts on this forum btw. you guys all rock.

The update file IS their update file. No difference whether you get it thu OTA, or you push it thru recovery.

You can wait, or get it now, no worries either way.

Do not use this file!

ever since I installed it I have been getting an error message, javaxnet.net.ssl.Exception:hostname in certificate does not match.

I am unable to run market place updates now.

be warned!

i have not had any problem, i have run the market, all my apps and i even had an App update this morning that worked fine as well...

I had a problem initially with the market; none of my downloads would be successful. Weirdly, the problem sort of fixed itself and now everything seems to be functioning properly.

I agree that the 2.1 update isn't anything earth-shattering, but live wallpapers and the true gallery / news widgets (rather than the hacked versions I was running before) are pretty nifty. No more remembering which Gallery is which when choosing pictures! :)

After all the wait, I find myself fairly unimpressed with the update. It makes me think it won't be too long before we see a 2.1update 2. Who knows though.

Lol! You people kill me. What did you expect from this update? 14 screens? Ability to run iPhone apps? Ability to turn the Droid into a Nexus TWO phone? Ability to run phone at overclock at 2.5ghz? You people are never satisfied.

If you ever rooted to get live wallpaper, pinch/zoom gallery/browser and everything else besides Glass Themes and Metamorph themes, then honestly what did you expect?

Be happy you got anything, and if not oh freekin' well!

Did you have to manually remove those hacked versions? Before or after running the update? Thanks.

I've had no issues witht he market after the update. Though I can't say whether or not we used the same update file ... :)

I haven't seen any reports of any malicious 2.1 updates yet. Hoever there was a certificate mismatch on the site to which I went to get mine, but that is not related to the file itself, a typical web hosting thing when the site's domain doesnt obtain their own cert, but uses the host's instead.

I was kinda hoping it would sprouts some arms, and you know clean my house and wash my car?

Ima gonna wait. Knowing me something would go wrong with the update.zip method SOMEWHERE and then verizon would tell me to get stuffed. I'll wait and if THEIR update kills it then they can deal with it. I've used the phone with 2.0.1 since I got it in December, isn't going to kill me to wait this much longer

I'm still just waiting for the update OTA and I did that checkin service thing through the phone and I got an exclamation mark saying the same thing you got. Now I am wondering would I still be able to receive the update despite that error....

I removed the ported versions, however I believe, that when it is at the step of "removing unneeded files, it may remove your duplicates for you.

I'm not sure if anyone asked this or knows the answer but the file that Verizon is posting for the update will that work for the eris as well as the droid.

Nice first post.

If you're really having a problem, try wiping everything with a factory reset and reinstall the update. Google servers save your contacts and gmail, the market saves your apps (download page in market shows everything you've downloaded). Only thing you'll lose is your text/mms and settings. Everything else is on your sd card and goes untouched.

There are ways to save you text/mms too but that will require an app to do it. Even without the market it's still possible install the necessary app if you really want to save them too.

If you need help with any of this start a new thread in the tech issues forum.

Major kudo's to everyone who helped make this force update possible! I downloaded and updated fine and I am as happy as a puppy with two peters!
