Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

does anyone have the thread page # that has the update.zip.
Download this file:

https://android.clients.google.com/u...6.fa406da6.zip <--- Direct from Google's Servers!

OR

signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

Put on the root of your sdcard (not in a folder)

Rename to update.zip

Power phone off

Boot into recovery (power phone on while holding down x)

When you see the triangle with the exclamation point, press (& hold) the volume up key and camera button key (only press the camera key down half way)

Navigate to “apply update.zip” and press the gold center button on the keyboard to select it. It will start the update process

Reboot

If your installation is 'aborted', it's probably because you named the file update.zip in Windows, which results in a file called update.zip.zip. Try renaming it to just 'update'

EDIT: You can do all this from your phone without using the USB cable.. Using Astro just move the file from your download folder on SD, to the Root of SD..

Does this update have the new alarm clock. It is supposed to have better contrast options.

I've never paid attention to the alarm clock. I don't know what you mean by better contrast, it's just a choice of a couple of clocks.

I'm guessing that he means the clock when in the dock/multimedia station.

Yes that is the one I am talking about. Currently it is too bright at night on my dock.

I forgot if this is normal when you are in recovery mode but I see this

E: can't open /cache/recovery/command

I see this in the recovery menu below the prompts.

is ths ok?

FYI, I am updating to 2.1 as we speak thanks to the link :)

This is the root of the sd card right?

question!!

I am currently rooted with DM 1.0
I am overclocked at 800

I have been hitting "install later" until I can get a good answer from those who updated
I am aware you can tether without being rooted(I hear theres an app)
I am aware I can just use helix for more screens
the only thing im worried about is losing speed and my smoked glass theme. SO

Is there a huge stability difference from being rooted to going to stock 2.1?
how much is the speed difference if I were to lose my 800 overclock?
Finally, I like the Helix launcher, so are there themes or anything??

This thread still delivers. :rofl3:

Has anyone been in contact with zmeflyby? I wonder if he got it yet.

On topic, I am considering doing the manual update. Thanks to those who provided links and instructions. :pint: :yr1:
