Android 2.1 Update Rolls Out For Motorola Droid!

no only 3 Home screens

As I said earlier, I'm beginning to believe that 4 teenagers on the couch can do more than 10 engineers at Motorola. I'm beginning to believe they are on government payroll. What have they been doing the past seven months? These improvements so far are not worth waiting for. I'm hoping someone will give a full run down of how they spent their time.

Seriously, you gotta stop saying this, because its a load of BS.

The only thing those teenagers on the couch do are copy and paste their little tweaks, and add their apks, and remove the ones they don't want there.

Come back to me when you have downloaded the aosp code and optmized it to work with the Droid, and then tested it enough thats its safe to ship to 1 million Droids.

Then submit to Verizon and let them fail it, and send it back at least 2-3 times.

You have no idea what actually goes on behind the scenes.

Perhaps we need an updated page one or a sticky or something with the details of what's included, etc., so people dont keep asking the same questions.

I don't blame them for doing so as you'd have to be bored, insane and have no life to sort through almost 1500 posts for info. Searching droid and flash wont be very useful either (or other repeat questions).

If you don't like the question, ignore it, there's no need to bash curious people.
I have two times today posted what the update included. Let's make it 3:

Well, I wasn't asking for it. I was stating that since so many people are asking for it repeatedly, that it might be smart to have it on page one, post one, where people START. Your post with a link gets lost in the other thousands of posts. Perhaps a sticky saying here is what it has updated officially, and here is what we are finding it to have additionally, and allow only updates with that info, or lock it so only a moderator can add to it. Then we don't get you grumpy gusses when people ask the question again, or when people like me not asking that question make a suggestion and you think I am asking the question. Lest we forget this is a forum where people are supposed to ask questions.

Maybe I am just hearing things differently but is anyone else noticing a big improvement in the audio quality during calls? Seems to be much better than before.

OR

signed-voles-ESE81-from-ESD56.fa406da6.zip

Put on the root of your sdcard (not in a folder)

Rename to update.zip

Power phone off

Boot into recovery (power phone on while holding down x)

When you see the triangle with the exclamation point, press (& hold) the volume up key and camera button key (only press the camera key down half way)

Navigate to “apply update.zip” and press the gold center button on the keyboard to select it. It will start the update process

Reboot

If your installation is 'aborted', it's probably because you named the file update.zip in Windows, which results in a file called update.zip.zip. Try renaming it to just 'update'

EDIT: You can do all this from your phone without using the USB cable.. Using Astro just move the file from your download folder on SD, to the Root of SD..

I don't get it. How come I can't download from my phone while others can?
When I click on the links, it starts the download and then immediately stops and says: "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone".

Yes, I know that I can do it another way, but I'm still curious why I can't do it right from the phone.

It went well for me. I used the WebSharing app to move it onto the Droid sdcard root directory and then rename it. Love the WebShare app.
Did the boot holding X and chose to update.

It did report it could not locate sdcard/cache/ or something to that effect but went past that and ran the update without a hitch.

Were you ever rooted?

Yes, I was. Do I have to re-root?
When I did it from SD card, the install went fine BTW.

@s54,
Do you have a file manager like Astro installed? IIRC I got the same message when I tried to download the 2.0.1 update until I installed one.

Just installed 2.1 via SD card, then did a factory restore. Seems a lot faster.

Although it didn't set my wallpaper to the original wallpaper. Interesting.

I have astro file manager installed the file down loaded into the download file in astro manager i can see it but how do i move it to my sd card? and change the name

Touch and hold.. On pop up screen select "Edit", "Move"

Go to your SD folder.. Touch and Hold.. On pop up screen select "Paste"

WhammO

What is this factory reset business?

Is that just a recommendation or does it become necessary for optimal performance after the update?

Do you have the same chance of needing to do that if you wait for the OTA update as if you update via the download that has been shared?

Lastly, what exactly gets reset with a factory reset? Settings, app data and text messages? Do you need to re-install all your apps?
