Android is losing

Its a killer idea, but it would be killer on a dev to accomplish. Converting flash games to html 5 would be way better suited for one of those richer companies...with deeper pockets than a private dev. :) One of these days im sure..

It could be done. Parsers to recognize specific ActionScript syntax and some code to associate it with its html5 counterpart. But... yes.. it would be better suited for a team rather than an individual.

Lol.. this thread is getting off topic.

I believe you actually can use other alternate managers for your iPod and such. In fact I am 99% sure that someone above said they were doing just that. Apps, yes you have to buy through the App store. But not necessarily having to go straight through iTunes. So yes, there are methods other than iTunes to manage the music on your device. And yes, that is without jail breaking your device.

totally true. Programs such as Mediamonkey and Songbird can manage ipod-devices (you can get them from FileHippo.com - Download Free Software)

The one thing I'm not sure about is managing your iphone-ipod apps through anything other than iTunes.

True... when I had an iPhone I put together a itunes lite installation with no bonjure.exe.. but I don't think its legal for me to distribute it, I could write up how I did it if people wanted....

I can't say how happy I am to see how this thread has turned out. Wug, the info about building the HTML5 shell around Flash is extremely cool. Never thought about it, but your descriptions are dead on. As far as Flash games within an HTML5 shell, it almost sounds like what you are describing would be an emulation, kinda like Fusion and Parallels used on a Mac to run Windows programs. Basically, a translator setup to interpret commands through HTML5 to Flash and back again. Is that correct?

Again, y'all are to be commended. This has been the best and most successful Apple/Android thread I have honestly ever seen on here and y'all are to be commended. I am getting so much out of this, as I think everyone else is. THIS is the kind of knowledge sharing I really enjoy seeing coming from an informative conversation like this.

Thank y'all so much again.

Boys boys... Can't all of us phone geeks get along. Yes apple had its problems. So does droid. I am livid I haven't gotten gingerbread on my 600 dollar phone yet.

And profiting? All companies do it. Its the basis of capitalism and our way of life. Now Apple makes an amazing product. So do Motorola, HTC, etc. We're all one community of techies. Lets just get along.

That was the initial idea I had without really thinking about it or investigating, then I realized that it wasn't realistic. It can be implemented in similar way to your description for just plain-old video content but for flash apps/games it would be impossible; the code that defines the flash app/game (ActionScript), is not accessible from the front end so there would be no way to parse and "translate" that script into HTML5. What I concluded was that the best thing that could be done would be to build a developer tool that would make converting flash apps/games into HTML5 very simple so the people who originally made the flash content could easily redistribute it in the HTML5 format.

Sidenote: happy that you are happy with the thread... glad I could contribute.

Nothing to worry about here. The way this thread has developed has everyone getting along very well. Been very positive, actually.

Seriously, if you could develop something that would allow that, do you realize the potential goldmine you would have on your hands? If there were something that could help automate the conversion from Flash to HTML5, the possibilities would be limitless. If it were possible and you halfway think you could do it, I would try for an intellectual patent on that. HTML5 is only going to grow and what you're suggesting could play a big part of that.

@OP - I don't think you will be satisfied with your iPhone purchase. I know it has a lot of perks and quite a few advantages over some Android phones (faster, more apps). But the dealbreaker is the fact that it is so proprietary. You will get bored with it pretty quickly and go back to your Android friend.
I hope I am wrong though and hope you enjoy your purchase :)

Lol. I have a lot of ideas... way better than that one. I need a team of people and money. I have neither right now... lol...going to school for biomedical materials engineering... and hopefully one day I will make enough capital to develop some of my ideas. Until then, I'll let people steal a few. Plus I highly doubt I am the only who thought of this. If you want to pay for the patent lawyer, I will give you 30%. ;)

i dont know if i completely agree with this just for the fact that ios has come a long way from what it used to be and it interests me greatly. ive always liked how apple hacking scene has been since even their modifications are so well made and integrated as if it was just standard apple. last night i looked up some vids about different apple mods and such and the devs there have really outdone themselves and to be totally honest imo a modded iphones home screens are just plain sexier than android because who ever made, for lack of a better term, the "widgets" and such on cydia did an outstanding job and from what ive seen this makes me want to go out and get me a used ipod touch just to play around on. in any respect OP i havent heard rumors of how the iphone 5 may or may not be but hopefully apple raises the bar so that everyone else will too.

edit-----
i dont know if anyone knows this but a hacked iphone can get flash and it works in the same way it would work in say dolphin browser. the flash content wont load when the pages loads for faster speeds but you can just click the box and view away.

I wish my sister's father in law was still practicing as a patent attorney. But you are correct, patents definitely aren't cheap. And it's funny you said what you did about money. I always remember the saying "It's easy to make money when you have money." I have found that to be so true in life. Sucks. LOL

The main reason I bought a android phone was because my ipod touch broke and I didn't see a point in upgrading my phone & buing a new ipod touch... so I upgraded to a smart phone, of course I wanted a android phone because I read a lot of goodthings about it & I was curious... but now that I reall look at things from a unbias view I see that the iphone is 10000x better,
My simple reason is dpkg. On cydia there are more packages then there are apps on the android marketplace. (At least it seems that way) & all those packages can customize your phone in a way that android couldn't. It would be the equivalent of every rom developer making a single rom that had every feature imaginable that you could enable and disable.

Android just cannot mesure up to what the iphone & cydia can do.

EDIT: this post had 3 pages last night when I logged of lol I couldn't read every page :p

Each has its place int he world. My wife has her iPhone 4 now and I still use my Incredible every day. I had considered going to the iPhone 5 but am leaning towards the Incredible 2 because I prefer keeping up with as many forms of technology as possible.

Both still have their pluses and minuses and the Android system is still going through it's teething pains. But I have seen huge progress over a short period of time. At this point, I would recommend they slow down on big developments and work more on refining. I think the base program is about there.

Honestly, I HOPE Android keeps growing and improving. It needs to for the balance in the smartphone world. They are the driving competitor to Apple right now and both will continue to improve as long as the other is around.
