Microsoft Makes The Best Mobile OS? Pssshhh. | Android Phone Fans
Guess it helps when fansites join the cause. Pretty funny to see though in that Phandroid article that Windows Mobile was winning at one one point.
IF iOS were on devices made by Moto or HTC it would make ZERO difference. People who buy iPhones buy them because they are iPhones.

This^^^. The tremendous brand value Apple has lays with IPhone, not IOS.
A 2nd IOS device wouldn't double sales, not even close. In fact, it's pretty hard to imagine someone wanting IOS not choosing the IPhone, aesthetically and as a status symbol it's unmatched. Part of the success of IPhone as a status symbol is Jobs controlling every aspect of the user experience. IOS on other devices diminishes the already highly overrated value of the brand. IPhone creates huge loyalty and is great at marketing to its customers, and the vast majority of that segment already have the IPhone.

...more assumptions. i'd swear if i didn't know any better (and believe me i do know better), i'd think you guys were tech insiders or something with all the latest metrics and demographics for the mobile world. you're telling me that people buy the iPhone because the actual phone is what is amazing? like the actual physical phone? haha...that the ease of use has nothing to do with it? that if apple were to create a phone with a bigger screen and a keyboard running iOS, that it wouldn't sell because it doesn't look like the original iphone? That Apple wouldn't be able to successfully market another iOS phone to the masses because it doesn't look like the iPhone and isn't called the iPhone? WTH...hahaa....i don't get where or how you guys figure this stuff out. the lack of business sense is staggering.
oh and before people start saying i'm contradicting myself, i don't mean that consumers are going to research the new iOS phone either or that they know all about iOS vs android and that's why they buy the phone. I'm saying it doesn't matter, as long as they see a commercial with people in skinny jeans doing moonwalks across a white room, and the word apple pops up at the end, the device will sell.
a main argument from the anti-apple people is the "lack of choice". so you're telling me if apple gave you a choice they wouldn't throw android into oblivion? that they wouldn't continue to make moronic commercials with people dancing around announcing the new iOS phone with the bigger screen and keyboard? that the uneducated consumers wouldn't go buy it just because it's from apple and the commercial had some catchy tune, and of course there's "an app for that"? you know how many people i know that say verbatim "the app store has 300,000 apps!!!" as their main argument for getting an iphone? really? haha...its easy for you guys to say that because we all know, apple is not going to create multiple iOS devices anytime soon (although I won't be as bold as darkseider to say "NEVERRRRR!!!!" I didn't get my "Mobile Secrets" manila envelope this week yet).
if iOS ran on as many devices as android did, android would have a hard time trying to catch up...and that's not cuz android sucks...its cuz iOS is the most polished and easy to use mobile operating system out there, apple would market the hell out of it, and the uneducated sheep, i mean consumers would buy it in droves (along with their $250 HDMI cables haha). it's HILARIOUS that you think several iOS devices wouldn't outsell android when one iOS device outsells android hahaah...(oh but of course it's the actual phone that sells, not the fact that its so easy a baby could use it)
I have no interest in getting into a 5 page argument today, so hopefully I wont be drawn into one haha. Especially when all you guys are doing is throwing your opinions and assumptions around with ZERO proof or resources to back your opinion up. But yeah, the jokes from you two just keep on coming.
yes, i know. how many times do i have to repeat that? it's clearly, and obviously successful because of its marketing. but...believe it or not it's also a good phone. you can have awesome marketing and if it runs like garbage it wouldn't have become a status symbol. clearly its marketed extremely effectively (which you too freely admit since you say people buy it for a status symbol) and clearly its a good phone (since people continue to buy it, upgrade it and it outsells every android phone combined)...so...for what is this the 51st time, you've proven my point...again
no one cares about android or ios when it comes to purchasing a phone...Johnny is not gonna say "well android is open source so i'm definitely getting that!!" and Janey is not gonna say "iphone's 1` year development cycle really rubs me wrong guys!!" ...if you think that consumers care about these things you are clueless
its funny how you can freely admit that apple can release a product that everyone and their mother wants but cant admit that they could do it again...haha..."if ios ran on other devices it wouldn't sell"...i mean how dumb is that statement? so in your warped mind, apple is a 1 trick pony who got extremely lucky with the iphone and can never duplicate that success with another phone ever again? haha...do you read what you type? it's the type of stuff that people would type late at night after coming home drunk or something (or could also just be what a fanboy would type...)
In a word... yes. That's exactly what I and everyone else is saying. People buy the iPhone because it is an iPhone. It has nothing to do with usability, ease of use or anything else. It is a status symbol for the hipsters, teens and tweens of the world. What part of that don't you get? People buy it to say "hey me too! Look I am as cool as Johnny or Janey!". This is due to marketing and the social status symbol the iPhone has become.
"...you can have awesome marketing and if it runs like garbage it wouldn't have become a status symbol."
Really? REALLY?
1. Original iPhone. We don't see the need for 3G
2. iPhone 3G released a year later same as original iPhone w/ 3G antenna
3. No market because Uncle Steve said there is no need for apps. Until a market shows up on Jailbroken iPhones (Cydia)
4. Apple releases their own App Market and says it's the greatest thing in the world!
5. You don't need copy & paste. Copy and Paste released
6. You don't need multi-tasking. iOS 4 with limited multi-tasking of certain services.
7. iPhone 3GS which should have been the 3G (full price for upgrade, thank you Uncle Steve!)
8. iPhone 4 Antennagate (You're holding it wrong!? REALLY!?)
9. iPad, enough said
10. Macbook Air
OK. So now that I have shown that what you said couldn't happen has happened. Do you have anything else to add? Apple is the king of marketing and spin. They are media darlings and everything Uncle Steve says is "magical" like a UNICORN! everyone in the flock believes and follows blindly.

Your heavy-handed generalizations are growing quiet tiresome, and are borderline baseless ad hominem. I'm a 24 year old CPA that works in a corporate environment where a company paid blackberry is a status symbol. If you'd like, I'll post back here when I get home and enumeratie all the reasons I traded in my 10 month old d1 for an iPhone.

#9. I have one, what do you think is wrong with it?
It works great, has a faster browser then any Android phone (as it should!).
It's definitely not perfect but it's a good device. I like mine a lot.
See it appears that the fan boy may be you. If you're not a fan boy then you can keep your mind open for both Apple and Android.

Oooh goodie! FRESH MEAT! You may be the exception to the generalizations I am making, we'll see. The majority though fit perfectly into my stereotypical iPhone owner.

The problem with the iPad is that it was rushed to market and the masses embraced it. The unit lacks everything that the iPad should be and which the iPad 2 will be, read as iPod 4 w/ a 10" screen. Apple will push this out, call it magical and people will flock to it. Doubt me? The iPad should have had a front cam, 512 Meg RAM and a rear camera which is EXACTLY what the iPod 4 has and the next iPad will have. Apple will call it revolutionary and charge a mint for it and the sheep will follow. This has been, is and always will be Apple's M.O. They release half-baked products in the initial life cycle and then run people over with their "upgrades". Motorola has done similar with the Droid2 vs. the Droid. Now ask yourself something. How many people dropped their Droids and ran out and got a Droid2? Now ask yourself how many people dropped their iPhone 3G for an iPhone 3GS or for that matter will run out and do the same when the iPad2 comes out?
Hopefully I have clarified this some. It's NOT the products I have a problem with. It's the method and mentality of Apple, Uncle Steve and the cult that follows his every "magical" LIKE A UNICORN! word.

...and yet it outsells all android devices combined. so...now you're suggesting that people are miserable with the phone and just have it because they got reeled in by the marketing, realized its a horrific phone, and keep it cuz it's a status symbol?? hahahaah....bwahahahah....aahahahaha....you should be a comedian.
