App Request: Morse code decoding app

So we have these lovely apps like Moto Torch which can use the flash LEDs to transmit morse code from text. The only problem is the feature is only a gimick unless you're in an emergency situation dealing with someone who can actually read morse code.

As such, what we need is an application that can read morse code for us using the camera and having a small box in which the light pulses could be centered. I realise this would be far harder to code than something like mototorch, but it would be a lot of fun to use for starting conversations with random people in say the hotel tower across from your apartment, or on the other side of a river, or across a concert hall.

Sure, it's not "needed" but it would be fun, and open up a whole new way to communicate with your phone.

I know morse code and can decode to about 25 words per minute. I'm not sure I understand what the purpose of an Android phone flashing morse code if nobody knows how to decode it? Sorry I'm missing the point here.

That's exactly the point. Two people could talk code through their phone and it would look like a bunch of flashing lights to everyone else.

Imagine being out camping with no phone reception. One person hikes around the lake. After dark, you could send messages back and forth with morse code! Old school texting!

The only problem I'd have with this is the light sensitivity of the droid camera. On a night with a full moon the range would be VERY limited. On a night with no moon the range wouldn't be very far either. You'd be much better to carry some FRS radios to keep in contact with someone, and those are rated at ranges of 20 miles (ha ha ha! YEAH RIGHT!) or more nowadays.

even if you couldn't use the droid flash, maybe have it read a flashlight? i definitely don't have the time to learn morse...otherwise i would.

What is the point of 90% of the apps? Most of them are stupid and useless.

This would just be another useless app that would be fun for about 10minutes. If we as people would actually put forth an effort to learn how to do something for ourselves instead of letting a computer do it for us we won't such retards when it comes to actually having to do something.
